1 I have told you al this so that you may not fal away.	1 Ho detto a voi queste cose, affinchè non siate scandalizzati.
2 They wil expel you from the synagogues, and indeed the time is coming when anyone who kills youwil think he is doing a holy service to God.	2 Vi cacceranno dalle Sinagoghe: anzi verrà tempo, che chi v'ucciderà, si creda di rendere onore a Dio:
3 They wil do these things because they have never known either the Father or me.	3 E vi tratteranno così; perché mi hanno conosciuto né il Padre, né me.
4 But I have told you all this, so that when the time for it comes you may remember that I told you. I didnot tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you;	4 Ma vi ho dette queste cose, affinchè venuto quel tempo vi ricordiate, che io ve le ho dette.
5 but now I am going to the one who sent me. Not one of you asks, 'Where are you going?'	5 Non vi ho però detto questo in principio, perché io era con voi: ora poi vo a lui, che mi ha mandato, e nissuno di voi mi domanda: Dove vai tu?
6 Yet you are sad at heart because I have told you this.	6 Ma perché vi ho dette queste cose, la tristezza ha ripieno il vostro cuore.
7 Stil , I am telling you the truth: it is for your own good that I am going, because unless I go, theParaclete wil not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.	7 Ma io vi dico il vero: Espediente per voi, che io men vada: perché se io non me ne vo, non verrà a voi il Paracleto; ma quando me ne sarò andato, ve lo manderò.
8 And when he comes, he wil show the world how wrong it was, about sin, and about who was in theright, and about judgement:	8 E venuto, ch'egli sia, sarà convinto il mondo riguardo al peccato, riguardo alla giustizia, e riguardo al giudizio:
9 about sin: in that they refuse to believe in me;	9 Riguardo al peccato, perché non credono in me:
10 about who was in the right: in that I am going to the Father and you will see me no more;	10 Riguardo alla giustizia, perché io vo al Padre, e già non mi vedrete:
11 about judgement: in that the prince of this world is already condemned.	11 Riguardo al giudizio poi, perché il Principe di questo mondo è già stato giudicato.
12 I still have many things to say to you but they would be too much for you to bear now.	12 Molte cose ho ancora da dirvi; ma non ne siete capaci adesso.
13 However, when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth, since he wil not bespeaking of his own accord, but wil say only what he has been told; and he wil reveal to you the things to come.	13 Ma venuto che sia quello Spirito di verità, vi insegnerà tutte le verità: imperocché non vi parlerà da se stesso; ma dirà tutto quello, che avrà udito, e vi annuncerà quello, che ha da essere.
14 He wil glorify me, since al he reveals to you wil be taken from what is mine.	14 Egli mi glorificherà: perché egli riceverà del mio, e ve lo annunzierà.
15 Everything the Father has is mine; that is why I said: all he reveals to you wil be taken from what ismine.	15 Tutto quel, che ha il Padre, è mio. Per questo ho detto, che egli riceverà del mio, e ve lo annunzierà.
16 In a short time you will no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again.	16 Un pochettino, e non mi vedrete: e di nuovo un pochettino, e mi vedrete: perché io vo al Padre.
17 Then some of his disciples said to one another, 'What does he mean, "In a short time you wil nolonger see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again," and, "I am going to the Father"?	17 disser però tra loro alcuni de' suoi discepoli: Che è quello, che egli ci dice: Non andrà molto, e non mi vedrete: e di poi, non andrà molto, e mi vedrete, e me ne vo al Padre?
18 What is this "short time"? We don't know what he means.'	18 Dicevano adunque: Che è questo, che egli dice, Un pochettino? Non intendiamo quel, che egli dica?
19 Jesus knew that they wanted to question him, so he said, 'You are asking one another what I meantby saying, "In a short time you wil no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again."	19 Conobbe pertanto Gesù, che bramavano d'interrogarlo, e disse loro: Voi andate investigando tra di voi perché io abbia detto: Non andrà molto, e non mi vedrete: e di poi, non andrà molto, e mi vedrete.
20 'In al truth I tell you, you wil be weeping and wailing while the world wil rejoice; you will be sorrowful,but your sorrow wil turn to joy.	20 In verità, in verità vi dico, che piangerete, e gemerete voi; il mondo poi goderà: voi sarete in tristezza, e la vostra tristezza si cangerà in gaudio.
21 A woman in childbirth suffers, because her time has come; but when she has given birth to the childshe forgets the suffering in her joy that a human being has been born into the world.	21 La donna, allorché partorisce è in tristezza, perché è giunto il suo tempo: quando poi ha dato alla luce il bambino, non si ricorda più dell'affanno a motivo dell'allegrezza; perché è nato al mondo un uomo.
22 So it is with you: you are sad now, but I shal see you again, and your hearts wil be ful of joy, andthat joy no one shal take from you.	22 E voi adunque siete pur adesso in tristezza; ma vi vedrò di bel nuovo, e gioirà il vostro cuore, e nissuno vi torrà il vostro gaudio.
23 When that day comes, you will not ask me any questions. In all truth I tel you, anything you ask fromthe Father he wil grant in my name.	23 E in quel giorno non mi interrogherete di alcuna cosa. In verità, in verità vi dico, che qualunque cosa domandiate al Padre nel nome mio, ve la concederà.
24 Until now you have not asked anything in my name. Ask and you wil receive, and so your joy wil becomplete.	24 Fino adesso non avete chiesto cosa nel nome mio: chiedete, e otterrete, affinchè il vostro gaudio sia compito.
25 I have been tel ing you these things in veiled language. The hour is coming when I shall no longerspeak to you in veiled language but tell you about the Father in plain words.	25 Ho dette a voi queste cose per via di proverbj. Ma viene il tempo, che non vi parlerò più per via di proverbj. Ma apertamente vi favellerò intorno al Padre.
26 When that day comes you wil ask in my name; and I do not say that I shal pray to the Father for you,	26 In quel giorno chiederete nel nome mio: e non vi dico, che pregherò io il Padre per voi:
27 because the Father himself loves you for loving me, and believing that I came from God.	27 Imperocché lo stesso Padre vi ama; perché avete amato me, e avete creduto, che sono uscito dal Padre.
28 I came from the Father and have come into the world and now I am leaving the world to go to theFather.'	28 Uscii dal Padre, e venni al mondo: abbandono di nuovo il mondo, e vo al Padre.
29 His disciples said, 'Now you are speaking plainly and not using veiled language.	29 Gli distero i suoi discepoli: Ecco, che ora parli chiaramente, e non fai uso d'alcun proverbio.
30 Now we see that you know everything and need not wait for questions to be put into words; becauseof this we believe that you came from God.'	30 Adesso conosciamo, che tu sai tutto, e non hai bisogno, che alcuno ti interroghi: per questo crediamo, che tu sei venuto da Dio.
31 Jesus answered them: Do you believe at last?	31 Rispose Gesù: Adesso credete?
32 Listen; the time wil come -- indeed it has come already -- when you are going to be scattered, eachgoing his own way and leaving me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.	32 Ecco che viene il tempo: anzi è venuto, che siate dispersi ciascuno nel suo luogo, e mi lasciate solo; ma non son solo, perché è con meco il Padre.
33 I have told you al this so that you may find peace in me. In the world you wil have hardship, but becourageous: I have conquered the world.	33 Tali cose vi ho dette, affinchè in me abbiate pace. Nel mondo sarete angustiati; ma abbiate fidanza: io ho vinto il mondo.
