John 16

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 I have told you al this so that you may not fal away.	1 Je vous ai dit cela pour vous éviter le scandale.
2 They wil expel you from the synagogues, and indeed the time is coming when anyone who kills youwil think he is doing a holy service to God.	2 On vous exclura des synagogues. Bien plus, l'heure vient où quiconque vous tuera pensera rendre unculte à Dieu.
3 They wil do these things because they have never known either the Father or me.	3 Et cela, ils le feront pour n'avoir reconnu ni le Père ni moi.
4 But I have told you all this, so that when the time for it comes you may remember that I told you. I didnot tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you;	4 Mais je vous ai dit cela, pour qu'une fois leur heure venue, vous vous rappeliez que je vous l'ai dit. "Jene vous ai pas dit cela dès le commencement, parce que j'étais avec vous.
5 but now I am going to the one who sent me. Not one of you asks, 'Where are you going?'	5 Mais maintenant je m'en vais vers celui qui m'a envoyé et aucun de vous ne me demande: Où vas-tu?
6 Yet you are sad at heart because I have told you this.	6 Mais parce que je vous ai dit cela, la tristesse remplit vos coeurs.
7 Stil , I am telling you the truth: it is for your own good that I am going, because unless I go, theParaclete wil not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.	7 Cependant je vous dis la vérité: c'est votre intérêt que je parte; car si je ne pars pas, le Paraclet neviendra pas vers vous; mais si je pars, je vous l'enverrai.
8 And when he comes, he wil show the world how wrong it was, about sin, and about who was in theright, and about judgement:	8 Et lui, une fois venu, il établira la culpabilité du monde en fait de péché, en fait de justice et en fait dejugement:
9 about sin: in that they refuse to believe in me;	9 de péché, parce qu'ils ne croient pas en moi;
10 about who was in the right: in that I am going to the Father and you will see me no more;	10 de justice, parce que je vais vers le Père et que vous ne me verrez plus;
11 about judgement: in that the prince of this world is already condemned.	11 de jugement, parce que le Prince de ce monde est jugé.
12 I still have many things to say to you but they would be too much for you to bear now.	12 J'ai encore beaucoup à vous dire, mais vous ne pouvez pas le porter à présent.
13 However, when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth, since he wil not bespeaking of his own accord, but wil say only what he has been told; and he wil reveal to you the things to come.	13 Mais quand il viendra, lui, l'Esprit de vérité, il vous introduira dans la vérité tout entière; car il neparlera pas de lui-même, mais ce qu'il entendra, il le dira et il vous dévoilera les choses à venir.
14 He wil glorify me, since al he reveals to you wil be taken from what is mine.	14 Lui me glorifiera, car c'est de mon bien qu'il recevra et il vous le dévoilera.
15 Everything the Father has is mine; that is why I said: all he reveals to you wil be taken from what ismine.	15 Tout ce qu'a le Père est à moi. Voilà pourquoi j'ai dit que c'est de mon bien qu'il reçoit et qu'il vous ledévoilera.
16 In a short time you will no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again.	16 "Encore un peu, et vous ne me verrez plus, et puis un peu encore, et vous me verrez."
17 Then some of his disciples said to one another, 'What does he mean, "In a short time you wil nolonger see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again," and, "I am going to the Father"?	17 Quelques-uns de ses disciples se dirent entre eux: "Qu'est-ce qu'il nous dit là: Encore un peu, et vousne me verrez plus, et puis un peu encore, et vous me verrez, et: Je vais vers le Père?"
18 What is this "short time"? We don't know what he means.'	18 Ils disaient: "Qu'est-ce que ce: un peu? Nous ne savons pas ce qu'il veut dire."
19 Jesus knew that they wanted to question him, so he said, 'You are asking one another what I meantby saying, "In a short time you wil no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again."	19 Jésus comprit qu'ils voulaient le questionner et il leur dit: "Vous vous interrogez entre vous sur ceque j'ai dit: Encore un peu, et vous ne me verrez plus, et puis un peu encore, et vous me verrez.
20 'In al truth I tell you, you wil be weeping and wailing while the world wil rejoice; you will be sorrowful,but your sorrow wil turn to joy.	20 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous pleurerez et vous vous lamenterez, et le monde se réjouira;vous serez tristes, mais votre tristesse se changera en joie.
21 A woman in childbirth suffers, because her time has come; but when she has given birth to the childshe forgets the suffering in her joy that a human being has been born into the world.	21 La femme, sur le point d'accoucher, s'attriste parce que son heure est venue; mais lorsqu'elle a donnéle jour à l'enfant, elle ne se souvient plus des douleurs, dans la joie qu'un homme soit venu au monde.
22 So it is with you: you are sad now, but I shal see you again, and your hearts wil be ful of joy, andthat joy no one shal take from you.	22 Vous aussi, maintenant vous voilà tristes; mais je vous verrai de nouveau et votre coeur sera dans lajoie, et votre joie, nul ne vous l'enlèvera.
23 When that day comes, you will not ask me any questions. In all truth I tel you, anything you ask fromthe Father he wil grant in my name.	23 Ce jour-là, vous ne me poserez aucune question. En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, ce que vousdemanderez au Père, il vous le donnera en mon nom.
24 Until now you have not asked anything in my name. Ask and you wil receive, and so your joy wil becomplete.	24 Jusqu'à présent vous n'avez rien demandé en mon nom; demandez et vous recevrez, pour que votrejoie soit complète.
25 I have been tel ing you these things in veiled language. The hour is coming when I shall no longerspeak to you in veiled language but tell you about the Father in plain words.	25 Tout cela, je vous l'ai dit en figures. L'heure vient où je ne vous parlerai plus en figures, mais je vousentretiendrai du Père en toute clarté.
26 When that day comes you wil ask in my name; and I do not say that I shal pray to the Father for you,	26 Ce jour-là, vous demanderez en mon nom et je ne vous dis pas que j'interviendrai pour vous auprèsdu Père,
27 because the Father himself loves you for loving me, and believing that I came from God.	27 car le Père lui-même vous aime, parce que vous m'aimez et que vous croyez que je suis sorti d'auprèsde Dieu.
28 I came from the Father and have come into the world and now I am leaving the world to go to theFather.'	28 Je suis sorti d'auprès du Père et venu dans le monde. De nouveau je quitte le monde et je vais vers lePère."
29 His disciples said, 'Now you are speaking plainly and not using veiled language.	29 Ses disciples lui disent: "Voilà que maintenant tu parles en clair et sans figures!
30 Now we see that you know everything and need not wait for questions to be put into words; becauseof this we believe that you came from God.'	30 Nous savons maintenant que tu sais tout et n'as pas besoin qu'on te questionne. A cela nous croyonsque tu es sorti de Dieu."
31 Jesus answered them: Do you believe at last?	31 Jésus leur répondit: "Vous croyez à présent?
32 Listen; the time wil come -- indeed it has come already -- when you are going to be scattered, eachgoing his own way and leaving me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.	32 Voici venir l'heure - et elle est venue - où vous serez dispersés chacun de votre côté et me laisserezseul. Mais je ne suis pas seul: le Père est avec moi.
33 I have told you al this so that you may find peace in me. In the world you wil have hardship, but becourageous: I have conquered the world.	33 Je vous ai dit ces choses, pour que vous ayez la paix en moi. Dans le monde vous aurez à souffrir.Mais gardez courage! J'ai vaincu le monde."
