John 16

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 I have told you al this so that you may not fal away.	1 «Les he dicho esto para que no se escandalicen.
2 They wil expel you from the synagogues, and indeed the time is coming when anyone who kills youwil think he is doing a holy service to God.	2 Serán echados de las sinagogas, más aún, llegará la hora en que los mismos que les den muerte pensarán que tributan culto a Dios.
3 They wil do these things because they have never known either the Father or me.	3 Y los tratarán así porque no han conocido ni al Padre ni a mí.
4 But I have told you all this, so that when the time for it comes you may remember that I told you. I didnot tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you;	4 Les he advertido esto para que cuando llegue esa hora, recuerden que ya lo había dicho. No les dije estas cosas desde el principio, porque yo estaba con ustedes.
5 but now I am going to the one who sent me. Not one of you asks, 'Where are you going?'	5 Ahora me voy al que me envió, y ninguno de ustedes me pregunta: «¿A dónde vas?».
6 Yet you are sad at heart because I have told you this.	6 Pero al decirles esto, ustedes se han entristecido.
7 Stil , I am telling you the truth: it is for your own good that I am going, because unless I go, theParaclete wil not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.	7 Sin embargo, les digo la verdad: les conviene que yo me vaya, porque si no me voy, el Paráclito no vendrá a ustedes. Pero si me voy, se lo enviaré.
8 And when he comes, he wil show the world how wrong it was, about sin, and about who was in theright, and about judgement:	8 Y cuando él venga, probará al mundo dónde está el pecado, dónde está la justicia y cuál es el juicio.
9 about sin: in that they refuse to believe in me;	9 El pecado está en no haber creído en mí.
10 about who was in the right: in that I am going to the Father and you will see me no more;	10 La justicia, en que yo me voy al Padre y ustedes ya no me verán.
11 about judgement: in that the prince of this world is already condemned.	11 Y el juicio, en que el Príncipe de este mundo ya ha sido condenado.
12 I still have many things to say to you but they would be too much for you to bear now.	12 Todavía tengo muchas cosas que decirles, pero ustedes no las pueden comprender ahora.
13 However, when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth, since he wil not bespeaking of his own accord, but wil say only what he has been told; and he wil reveal to you the things to come.	13 Cuando venga el Espíritu de la Verdad, él los introducirá en toda la verdad, porque no hablará por sí mismo, sino que dirá lo que ha oído y les anunciará lo que irá sucediendo.
14 He wil glorify me, since al he reveals to you wil be taken from what is mine.	14 El me glorificará, porque recibirá de lo mío y se lo anunciará a ustedes.
15 Everything the Father has is mine; that is why I said: all he reveals to you wil be taken from what ismine.	15 Todo lo que es del Padre es mío. Por eso les digo: «Recibirá de lo mío y se lo anunciará a ustedes».
16 In a short time you will no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again.	16 Dentro de poco, ya no me verán, y poco después, me volverán a ver».
17 Then some of his disciples said to one another, 'What does he mean, "In a short time you wil nolonger see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again," and, "I am going to the Father"?	17 Entonces algunos de sus discípulos comentaban entre sí: «¿Qué significa esto que nos dice: «Dentro de poco ya no me verán, y poco después, me volverán a ver?».
18 What is this "short time"? We don't know what he means.'	18 Decían: «¿Qué es este poco de tiempo? No entendemos lo que quiere decir».
19 Jesus knew that they wanted to question him, so he said, 'You are asking one another what I meantby saying, "In a short time you wil no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again."	19 Jesús se dio cuenta de que deseaban interrogarlo y les dijo: «Ustedes se preguntan entre sí qué significan mis palabras: «Dentro de poco, ya no me verán, y poco después, me volverán a ver».
20 'In al truth I tell you, you wil be weeping and wailing while the world wil rejoice; you will be sorrowful,but your sorrow wil turn to joy.	20 Les aseguro que ustedes van a llorar y se van a lamentar; el mundo, en cambio, se alegrará. Ustedes estarán tristes, pero esa tristeza se convertirá en gozo.
21 A woman in childbirth suffers, because her time has come; but when she has given birth to the childshe forgets the suffering in her joy that a human being has been born into the world.	21 La mujer, cuando va a dar a luz, siente angustia porque le llegó la hora; pero cuando nace el niño, se olvida de su dolor, por la alegría que siente al ver que ha venido un hombre al mundo.
22 So it is with you: you are sad now, but I shal see you again, and your hearts wil be ful of joy, andthat joy no one shal take from you.	22 También ustedes ahora están tristes, pero yo los volveré a ver, y tendrán una alegría que nadie les podrá quitar.
23 When that day comes, you will not ask me any questions. In all truth I tel you, anything you ask fromthe Father he wil grant in my name.	23 Aquél día no me harán más preguntas. Les aseguro que todo lo que pidan al Padre, él se lo concederá en mi Nombre.
24 Until now you have not asked anything in my name. Ask and you wil receive, and so your joy wil becomplete.	24 Hasta ahora, no han pedido nada en mi Nombre. Pidan y recibirán, y tendrán una alegría que será perfecta.
25 I have been tel ing you these things in veiled language. The hour is coming when I shall no longerspeak to you in veiled language but tell you about the Father in plain words.	25 Les he dicho todo esto por medio de parábolas. Llega la hora en que ya no les hablaré por medio de parábolas, sino que les hablaré claramente del Padre.
26 When that day comes you wil ask in my name; and I do not say that I shal pray to the Father for you,	26 Aquel día ustedes pedirán en mi Nombre; y no será necesario que yo ruegue al Padre por ustedes,
27 because the Father himself loves you for loving me, and believing that I came from God.	27 ya que él mismo los ama, porque ustedes me aman y han creído que yo vengo de Dios.
28 I came from the Father and have come into the world and now I am leaving the world to go to theFather.'	28 Salí del Padre y vine al mundo. Ahora dejo el mundo y voy al Padre».
29 His disciples said, 'Now you are speaking plainly and not using veiled language.	29 Sus discípulos le dijeron: «Por fin hablas claro y sin parábolas.
30 Now we see that you know everything and need not wait for questions to be put into words; becauseof this we believe that you came from God.'	30 Ahora conocemos que tú lo sabes todo y no hace falta hacerte preguntas. Por eso creemos que tú has salido de Dios».
31 Jesus answered them: Do you believe at last?	31 Jesús les respondió: «¿Ahora creen?
32 Listen; the time wil come -- indeed it has come already -- when you are going to be scattered, eachgoing his own way and leaving me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.	32 Se acerca la hora, y ya ha llegado, en que ustedes se dispersarán cada uno por su lado, y me dejarán solo. Pero no, no estoy solo, porque el Padre está conmigo.
33 I have told you al this so that you may find peace in me. In the world you wil have hardship, but becourageous: I have conquered the world.	33 Les digo esto para que encuentren la paz en mí. En el mundo tendrán que sufrir; pero tengan valor: yo he vencido al mundo».
