NEW JERUSALEMSTUTTGARTENSIA-DELITZSCH
After the Sabbath, and towards dawn on the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala and the other Marywent to visit the sepulchre.1 וְאַחֲרֵי מוֹצָאֵי הַשַּׁבָּת כְּשֶׁהֵאִיר לְאֶחָד בַּשַּׁבָּת בָּאָה מִרְיָם הַמַּגְדָּלִית וּמִרְיָם הָאַחֶרֶת לִרְאוֹת אֶת־הַקָּבֶר
And suddenly there was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, cameand rol ed away the stone and sat on it.2 וְהִנֵּה רַעַשׁ גָּדוֹל הָיָה כִּי־מַלְאַךְ יְהוָֹה יָרַד מִן־הַשָּׁמַיִם וַיִּגַּשׁ וַיָּגֶל אֶת־הָאֶבֶן מִן־הַפֶּתַח וַיֵּשֶׁב עָלֶיהָ
His face was like lightning, his robe white as snow.3 וַיְהִי מַרְאֵהוּ כַּבָּרָק וּלְבוּשׁוֹ לָבָן כַּשָּׁלֶג
The guards were so shaken by fear of him that they were like dead men.4 וּמִפַּחְדּוֹ נִבְהֲלוּ הַשֹּׁמְרִים וַיִּהְיוּ כַּמֵּתִים
But the angel spoke; and he said to the women, 'There is no need for you to be afraid. I know you arelooking for Jesus, who was crucified.5 וַיַּעַן הַמַּלְאָךְ וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל־הַנָּשִׁים אַתֶּן אַל־תִּירֶאןָ הֵן יָדַעְתִּי כִּי אֶת־יֵשׁוּעַ הַנִּצְלָב אַתֶּן מְבַקְשׁוֹת
He is not here, for he has risen, as he said he would. Come and see the place where he lay,6
then go quickly and tel his disciples, "He has risen from the dead and now he is going ahead of you toGalilee; that is where you wil see him." Look! I have told you.'7 וּמִהַרְתֶּן לָלֶכֶת וַאֲמַרְתֶּן אֶל־תַּלְמִידָיו כִּי קָם מִן־הַמֵּתִים וְהִנֵּה הוּא הוֹלֵךְ לִפְנֵיכֶם הַגָּלִילָה וְשָׁם תִּרְאֻהוּ הִנֵּה אָמַרְתִּי לָכֶן
Fil ed with awe and great joy the women came quickly away from the tomb and ran to tel his disciples.8 וַתְּמַהֵרְנָה לָצֵאת מִן־הַקֶּבֶר בְּיִרְאָה וּבְשִׂמְחָה גְדוֹלָה וַתָּרֹצְנָה לְהַגִּיד לְתַלְמִידָיו
And suddenly, coming to meet them, was Jesus. 'Greetings,' he said. And the women came up to himand, clasping his feet, they did him homage.9 הֵנָּה הֹלְכוֹת לְהַגִּיד לְתַלְמִידָיו וְהִנֵּה יֵשׁוּעַ נִקְרֶה אֲלֵיהֶן וַיֹּאמֶר שָׁלוֹם לָכֶן וַתִּגַּשְׁנָה וַתֹּאחַזְנָה בְרַגְלָיו וַתִּשְׁתַּחֲוֶיןָ לוֹ
Then Jesus said to them, 'Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers that they must leave for Galilee;there they wil see me.'10 וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶן יֵשׁוּעַ אַל־תִּירֶאןָ לֵכְנָה וְהַגֵּדְןָ לְאַחַי וְיֵלְכוּ הַגָּלִילָה וְשָׁם יִרְאוּנִי
Now while they were on their way, some of the guards went off into the city to tell the chief priests althat had happened.11 וַיְהִי בְלֶכְתָּן וְהִנֵּה אֲנָשִׁים מִן־הַמִּשְׁמָר בָּאוּ הָעִירָה וַיַּגִּידוּ לְרָאשֵׁי הַכֹּהֲנִים אֵת כָּל־הַנַּעֲשָׂה
These held a meeting with the elders and, after some discussion, handed a considerable sum ofmoney to the soldiers12 וַיִּקָּהֲלוּ עִם־הַזְּקֵנִים וַיִּתְיָעָצוּ וַיִּתְּנוּ־כֶסֶף לָרֹב אֶל־אַנְשֵׁי הַצָּבָא לֵאמֹר
with these instructions, 'This is what you must say, "His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep."13 אִמְרוּ כִּי־בָאוּ תַּלְמִידָיו לָיְלָה וַיִּגְנְבוּ אוֹתוֹ בִּהְיוֹתֵנוּ יְשֵׁנִים
And should the governor come to hear of this, we undertake to put things right with him ourselvesand to see that you do not get into trouble.'14 וְאִם־יִשָּׁמַע הַדָּבָר לִפְנֵי הַנְּצִיב אֲנַחְנוּ נְפַיְסֵהוּ וִהְיִיתֶם בְּלִי־פָחַד
So they took the money and carried out their instructions, and to this day that is the story among theJews.15 וַיִּקְחוּ אֶת־הַכֶּסֶף וַיַּעֲשֹוּ כַּאֲשֶׁר הוֹרוּ לָהֶם וַתֵּצֵא הַשְּׁמוּעָה הַזֹּאת בֵּין הַיְּהוּדִים עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה
Meanwhile the eleven disciples set out for Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had arranged tomeet them.16 וְאַחַד עָשָׂר הַתַּלְמִידִים הָלְכוּ הַגָּלִילָה אֶל־הָהָר אֲשֶׁר צִוָּם יֵשׁוּעַ
When they saw him they fell down before him, though some hesitated.17 וַיְהִי כִּרְאוֹתָם אוֹתוֹ וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ־לוֹ וּמִקְצָתָם נֶחְלְקוּ בְלִבָּם
Jesus came up and spoke to them. He said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given tome.18
Go, therefore, make disciples of al nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Sonand of the Holy Spirit,19 לְכוּ וַעֲשֹוּ לְתַלְמִידִים אֶת־כָּל־הַגּוֹיִם וּטְבַלְתֶּם אֹתָם לְשֵׁם־הָאָב וְהַבֵּן וְרוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ
and teach them to observe al the commands I gave you. And look, I am with you always; yes, to theend of time.'20 וְלִמַּדְתֶּם אֹתָם לִשְׁמֹר אֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִי אֶתְכֶם וְהִנֵּה אָנֹכִי אִתְּכֶם כָּל־הַיָּמִים עַד־קֵץ הָעוֹלָם אָמֵן
