Matthew 22

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Jesus began to speak to them in parables once again,	1 Gesù riprese a parlar loro in parabole e disse:
2 'The kingdom of Heaven may be compared to a king who gave a feast for his son's wedding.	2 "E' simile il regno dei cieli a un re il quale fece un banchetto di nozze per suo figlio.
3 He sent his servants to cal those who had been invited, but they would not come.	3 Egli mandò i suoi servi a chiamare coloro che erano stati invitati alle nozze; ma questi non vollero venire.
4 Next he sent some more servants with the words, "Tel those who have been invited: Look, mybanquet is al prepared, my oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, everything is ready. Come to thewedding."	4 Di nuovo mandò altri servi dicendo: "Dite agli invitati: ecco, ho preparato il mio pranzo: i miei buoi e gli animali ingrassati sono già stati macellati e tutto è pronto; venite alle nozze".
5 But they were not interested: one went off to his farm, another to his business,	5 Ma essi, noncuranti, andarono chi ai propri campi, chi ai propri affari.
6 and the rest seized his servants, maltreated them and kil ed them.	6 Altri poi, presi i servi, li maltrattarono e li uccisero.
7 The king was furious. He despatched his troops, destroyed those murderers and burnt their town.	7 Il re, adiratosi, inviò i suoi eserciti ad annientare quegli omicidi e a incendiarne la città.
8 Then he said to his servants, "The wedding is ready; but as those who were invited proved to beunworthy,	8 Dice quindi ai servi: "Il banchetto nuziale è pronto, ma gli invitati non ne erano degni.
9 go to the main crossroads and invite everyone you can find to come to the wedding."	9 Andate dunque ai crocicchi delle vie e chiamate alle nozze tutti quelli che troverete".
10 So these servants went out onto the roads and col ected together everyone they could find, bad andgood alike; and the wedding hal was fil ed with guests.	10 Andarono quei servi per le vie e radunarono tutti quelli che trovarono, buoni e cattivi; e così la sala si riempì di commensali.
11 When the king came in to look at the guests he noticed one man who was not wearing a weddinggarment,	11 Entrato il re a vedere i commensali, trovò là un uomo che non indossava la veste nuziale.
12 and said to him, "How did you get in here, my friend, without a wedding garment?" And the man wassilent.	12 Gli dice: "Amico, come mai sei entrato qui senza la veste nuziale?". Egli ammutolì.
13 Then the king said to the attendants, "Bind him hand and foot and throw him into the darknessoutside, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth."	13 Allora il re disse ai suoi servitori: "Legatelo mani e piedi e gettatelo nelle tenebre esteriori: là sarà pianto e stridore di denti".
14 For many are invited but not al are chosen.'	14 Infatti molti sono chiamati, ma pochi eletti".
15 Then the Pharisees went away to work out between them how to trap him in what he said.	15 Allora i farisei, ritiratisi, tennero consiglio per vedere come coglierlo in fallo nei suoi discorsi.
16 And they sent their disciples to him, together with some Herodians, to say, 'Master, we know that youare an honest man and teach the way of God in all honesty, and that you are not afraid of anyone, becausehuman rank means nothing to you.	16 Mandarono dunque a lui i propri discepoli, insieme agli erodiani, per dirgli: "Maestro, sappiamo che sei veritiero e che insegni la via di Dio con verità e che non hai soggezione di nessuno; infatti non guardi in faccia ad alcuno.
17 Give us your opinion, then. Is it permissible to pay taxes to Caesar or not?'	17 Dicci dunque il tuo parere: è lecito o no pagare il tributo a Cesare?".
18 But Jesus was aware of their malice and replied, 'You hypocrites! Why are you putting me to thetest?	18 Gesù, conoscendo la loro malizia, disse: "Perché volete tentarmi, ipocriti?
19 Show me the money you pay the tax with.' They handed him a denarius,	19 Mostratemi la moneta del tributo". Essi gli presentarono un denaro.
20 and he said, 'Whose portrait is this? Whose title?'	20 Dice loro: "Di chi è l'effigie con l'iscrizione?".
21 They replied, 'Caesar's.' Then he said to them, 'Very wel , pay Caesar what belongs to Caesar -- andGod what belongs to God.'	21 Rispondono: "Di Cesare". Ed egli disse loro: "Date dunque a Cesare quello che è di Cesare e a Dio quello che è di Dio".
22 When they heard this they were amazed; they left him alone and went away.	22 All'udir ciò rimasero stupiti e, lasciatolo, se ne andarono.
23 That day some Sadducees -- who deny that there is a resurrection -- approached him and they putthis question to him,	23 In quel giorno si avvicinarono a lui dei sadducei, quelli che affermano non esserci risurrezione, e lo interrogarono
24 'Master, Moses said that if a man dies childless, his brother is to marry the widow, his sister-in-law, toraise children for his brother.	24 dicendo: "Maestro, Mosè ha ordinato: Se uno muore senza figli, suo fratello ne sposerà la vedova e così darà a suo fratello una discendenza.
25 Now we had a case involving seven brothers; the first married and then died without children, leavinghis wife to his brother;	25 Ora c'erano fra noi sette fratelli. Il primo appena sposato, morì e, non avendo discendenza, lasciò la moglie a suo fratello.
26 the same thing happened with the second and third and so on to the seventh,	26 La stessa cosa accadde al secondo e al terzo, fino al settimo.
27 and then last of al the woman herself died.	27 Dopo di tutti, morì anche la donna.
28 Now at the resurrection, whose wife among the seven wil she be, since she had been married tothem al ?'	28 Ora, nella risurrezione, di chi fra i sette sarà moglie? Infatti appartenne a tutti".
29 Jesus answered them, 'You are wrong, because you understand neither the scriptures nor the powerof God.	29 Gesù rispose: "Siete in errore, poiché non conoscete le Scritture né la potenza di Dio.
30 For at the resurrection men and women do not marry; no, they are like the angels in heaven.	30 Infatti nella risurrezione non si prende né moglie né marito, ma si è come angeli di Dio in cielo.
31 And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you never read what God himself said to you:	31 Quanto poi alla risurrezione dei morti, non avete letto ciò che a voi disse Dio:
32 I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob? He is God, not of the dead, but ofthe living.'	32 Io sono il Dio di Abramo, il Dio di Isacco, il Dio di Giacobbe? Dio non è un Dio di morti, ma di viventi".
33 And his teaching made a deep impression on the people who heard it.	33 All'udir ciò, le folle rimanevano stupite per la sua dottrina.
34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees they got together	34 I farisei, saputo che Gesù aveva messo a tacere i sadducei, si radunarono insieme,
35 and, to put him to the test, one of them put a further question,	35 e uno di loro, dottore della legge, lo interrogò per metterlo alla prova:
36 'Master, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?'	36 "Maestro, qual è il precetto più grande della legge?".
37 Jesus said to him, 'You must love the Lord your God with al your heart, with al your soul, and with alyour mind.	37 Egli rispose: "Amerai il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore, con tutta la tua anima, con tutta la tua mente.
38 This is the greatest and the first commandment.	38 Questo è il più grande e il primo dei precetti.
39 The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself.	39 Ma il secondo è simile ad esso: Amerai il prossimo tuo come te stesso.
40 On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets too.'	40 Da questi due precetti dipende tutta la legge e i profeti".
41 While the Pharisees were gathered round, Jesus put to them this question,	41 Radunatisi i farisei, Gesù li interrogò
42 'What is your opinion about the Christ? Whose son is he?' They told him, 'David's.'	42 dicendo: "Che cosa pensate del Cristo? Di chi è figlio?". Gli rispondono: "Di Davide".
43 He said to them, 'Then how is it that David, moved by the Spirit, cal s him Lord, where he says:	43 Dice loro: "Come dunque Davide, sotto l'influsso dello Spirito, lo chiama Signore quando dice:
44 The Lord declared to my Lord, take your seat at my right hand, til I have made your enemies yourfootstool?	44 Ha detto il Signore al mio Signore: Siedi alla mia destra finché ponga i tuoi nemici come sgabello dei tuoi piedi?
45 'If David cal s him Lord, how then can he be his son?'	45 Se, dunque, Davide lo chiama Signore, come può essere suo figlio?".
46 No one could think of anything to say in reply, and from that day no one dared to ask him any furtherquestions.	46 Nessuno seppe rispondergli una parola; e da quel giorno nessuno osò più fargli delle domande.
