Matthew 11

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples he moved on from there to teach and preachin their towns.	1 E quando ebbe finito di dare queste istruzioni ai suoi dodici discepoli Gesù partì di là, per insegnare e predicare nelle loro città.
2 Now John had heard in prison what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him,	2 Or Giovanni, avendo udite nella prigione le opere di Cristo, mandò due dei suoi discepoli
3 'Are you the one who is to come, or are we to expect someone else?'	3 a dirgli: Sei tu quello che ha da venire, o dobbiamo aspettare un altro?
4 Jesus answered, 'Go back and tel John what you hear and see;	4 E Gesù rispose loro: Andate a riferire a Giovanni quel che udite e vedete:
5 the blind see again, and the lame walk, those suffering from virulent skin-diseases are cleansed, andthe deaf hear, the dead are raised to life and the good news is proclaimed to the poor;	5 i ciechi vedono, gli zoppi camminano, i lebbrosi sono mondati, i sordi odono, i morti risuscitano, ai poveri è annunziata la buona novella;
6 and blessed is anyone who does not find me a cause of falling.'	6 ed è beato chi non si sarà scandalizzato di me.
7 As the men were leaving, Jesus began to talk to the people about John, 'What did you go out into thedesert to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No?	7 Partiti quelli, Gesù incominciò a parlare alle turbe di Giovanni e a dire: Che siete andati a vedere nel deserto? una canna agitata dal vento?
8 Then what did you go out to see? A man wearing fine clothes? Look, those who wear fine clothes areto be found in palaces.	8 Ma che siete andati a vedere? un uomo vestito mollemente? Ecco, quelli che portano delle morbide vesti stanno nei palazzi dei re.
9 Then what did you go out for? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet:	9 Ma che siete andati a vedere? un profeta? Sì, vi dico, e più che un profeta.
10 he is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you toprepare your way before you.	10 Egli è colui del quale sta scritto: Ecco io mando innanzi a te il mio angelo per preparare la tua via dinanzi a to.
11 'In truth I tel you, of al the children born to women, there has never been anyone greater than Johnthe Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.	11 In verità vi dico: Tra i nati di donna non è mai sorto alcuno più grande di Giovanni Battista: eppure il più piccolo nel regno dei cieli è più grande di lui.
12 Since John the Baptist came, up to this present time, the kingdom of Heaven has been subjected toviolence and the violent are taking it by storm.	12 E dai giorni di Giovanni Battista fino ad ora il regno dei cieli si acquista colla forza e se lo afferrano i violenti,
13 Because it was towards John that al the prophecies of the prophets and of the Law were leading;	13 che tutti i profeti e la legge han profetato sino a Giovanni.
14 and he, if you wil believe me, is the Elijah who was to return.	14 E se lo volete accettare, egli è quell'Elia che deve venire.
15 Anyone who has ears should listen!	15 Chi ha orecchi da intendere intenda.
16 'What comparison can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit inthe market place:	16 Ma a chi paragonerò io questa generazione? E' simile a quei ragazzi che, seduti in piazza, gridano ai loro compagni:
17 We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't bemourners.	17 Abbiamo sonato e non avete ballato, abbiamo intonato lamenti e non avete pianto.
18 'For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, "He is possessed."	18 Difatti è venuto Giovanni, che non mangia e nè beve e dicono: Ha il demonio.
19 The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they say, "Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend oftax col ectors and sinners." Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.'	19 E' venuto il Figlio dell'uomo che mangia e beve, e dicono: Ecco un mangione e un bevono, amico di pubblicani e di peccatori. Così alla sapienza è stata resa giustizia dai suoi figli.
20 Then he began to reproach the towns in which most of his miracles had been worked, because theyrefused to repent.	20 Allora egli cominciò a rimproverare le città nelle quali era stata operata la maggior parte dei suoi miracoli, perchè non si erano ravvedute:
21 'Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done inTyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.	21 Guai a te, Corozain, guai a te, Betsaida: chè se in Tiro e Sidone fossero avvenuti i miracoli fatti in mezzo a voi, già da gran tempo, in cilicio e cenere, avrebbero fatto penitenza.
22 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on Judgement Day than for you.	22 E però vi dico: a Tiro e a Sidone s'userà maggior clemenza che a voi nel giorno del giudizio.
23 And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be raised as high as heaven? You shal be flung down tohell. For if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have been standing yet.	23 E tu, Cafarnao, sarai forse esaltata fino al cielo? Tu scenderai sino all'inferno: chè se in Sodoma fossero avvenuti i miracoli operati in te, forse sussisterebbe aneli'oggi.
24 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Sodom on Judgement Day than for you.'	24 E però vi dico: s'userà maggior clemenza al paese di Sodoma che a te nel giorno del giudizio.
25 At that time Jesus exclaimed, 'I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding thesethings from the learned and the clever and revealing them to little children.	25 Allora Gesù prese a dire: Ti ringrazio, o Padre, Signore del cielo e della terra, perchè hai nascoste queste cose ai dotti e ai sapienti e le hai rivelate ai piccoli.
26 Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do.	26 Così, o Padre, perchè sì ti è piaciuto.
27 Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father,just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.	27 Tutto è stato affidato a me dal Padre mio; e nessuno conosce il Figlio se non il Padre; e nessuno conosce il Padre tranne il Figlio e colui al quale il Figlio avrà voluto rivelarlo.
28 'Come to me, al you who labour and are overburdened, and I wil give you rest.	28 Venite a me voi tutti che siete affaticati e oppressi, ed io vi ristorerò.
29 Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you wil find rest foryour souls.	29 Prendete su di voi il mio giogo, e imparate da me che sono mansueto ed umile di cuore; e troverete riposo alle anime vostre;
30 Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.'	30 perché il mio giogo è soave e leggero il mio carico.
