Matthew 11

1 When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples he moved on from there to teach and preachin their towns.	1 וַיְהִי כְּכַלּוֹת יֵשׁוּעַ לְצַוֹּת אֶת־שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר תַּלְמִידָיו וַיֵּלֶךְ מִשָּׁם לְלַמֵּד וּלְבַשֵּר בְּעָרֵיהֶם
2 Now John had heard in prison what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him,	2 וְיוֹחָנָן שָׁמַע בְּבֵית הַסֹּהַר אֶת־מַעֲשֵׂי הַמָּשִׁיחַ וַיִּשְׁלַח שְׁנַיִם מִתַּלְמִידָיו
3 'Are you the one who is to come, or are we to expect someone else?'	3 וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו הַאַתָּה הוּא הַבָּא אִם־נְחַכֶּה לְאַחֵר
4 Jesus answered, 'Go back and tel John what you hear and see;	4 וַיַּעַן יֵשׁוּעַ וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם לְכוּ הַגִּידוּ לְיוֹחָנָן אֶת־אֲשֶׁר שְׁמַעְתֶּם וּרְאִיתֶם
5 the blind see again, and the lame walk, those suffering from virulent skin-diseases are cleansed, andthe deaf hear, the dead are raised to life and the good news is proclaimed to the poor;	5 עִוְרִים רֹאִים וּפִסְּחִים מִתְהַלְּכִים מְצֹרָעִים מְטֹהָרִים וְחֵרְשִׁים שֹׁמְעִים וּמֵתִים קָמִים וַעֲנִיִּים מִתְבַּשְּׂרֵי יְשׁוּעָה הֵם
6 and blessed is anyone who does not find me a cause of falling.'	6 וְאַשְׁרֵי אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יִכָּשֵׁל בִּי
7 As the men were leaving, Jesus began to talk to the people about John, 'What did you go out into thedesert to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No?	7 הֵמָּה הָלְכוּ לָהֶם וְיֵשׁוּעַ הֵחֵל לְדַבֵּר אֶל־הֲמוֹן הָעָם עַל־אֹדוֹת יוֹחָנָן וַיֹּאמַר מַה־זֶּה יְצָאתֶם הַמִּדְבָּרָה לִרְאוֹת הֲקָנֶה אֲשֶׁר יִנּוֹעַ בָּרוּחַ
8 Then what did you go out to see? A man wearing fine clothes? Look, those who wear fine clothes areto be found in palaces.	8 וְאִם־לֹא מַה־זֶּה יְצָאתֶם לִרְאוֹת הַאִישׁ לָבוּשׁ בִּגְדֵי עֲדָנִים הִנֵּה הַלֹּבְשִׁים עֲדָנִים בְּבָתֵּי הַמְּלָכִים הֵמָּה
9 Then what did you go out for? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet:	9 וְאִם־לֹא מַה־זֶּה יְצָאתֶם לִרְאוֹת אִם־אִישׁ נָבִיא הֵן אֲנִי אֹמֵר לָכֶם כִּי גַם־גָּדוֹל הוּא מִנָּבִיא
10 he is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you toprepare your way before you.	10 כִּי זֶה הוּא אֲשֶׁר כָּתוּב עָלָיו הִנְנִי שֹׁלֵחַ מַלְאָכִי לְפָנֶיךָ וּפִנָּה־דַרְכְּךָ לְפָנֶיךָ
11 'In truth I tel you, of al the children born to women, there has never been anyone greater than Johnthe Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.	11 אָמֵן אֹמֵר אֲנִי לָכֶם לֹא קָם בִּילוּדֵי אִשָּׁה אִישׁ גָּדוֹל מִיּוֹחָנָן הַמַּטְבִּיל אַךְ הַקָּטֹן בְּמַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמַיִם גָּדוֹל הוּא מִמֶּנּוּ
12 Since John the Baptist came, up to this present time, the kingdom of Heaven has been subjected toviolence and the violent are taking it by storm.	12 וּמִימֵי יוֹחָנָן הַמַּטְבִּיל עַד־הֵנָּה מַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמַיִם נִתְפְּשָׂה בְּחָזְקָה וְהַחֲזָקִים יַחֲזִיקוּ בָהּ
13 Because it was towards John that al the prophecies of the prophets and of the Law were leading;	13 כִּי כָל־הַנְּבִיאִים וְהַתּוֹרָה עֲדֵי יוֹחָנָן נִבָּאוּ
14 and he, if you wil believe me, is the Elijah who was to return.	14 וְאִם־תִּרְצוּ לְקַבֵּל הִנֵּה הוּא אֵלִיָּה הֶעָתִיד לָבוֹא
15 Anyone who has ears should listen!	15 מִי אֲשֶׁר אָזְנַיִם לוֹ לִשְׁמֹעַ יִשְׁמָע
16 'What comparison can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit inthe market place:	16 וְאֶל־מִי אֲדַמֶּה אֶת־הַדּוֹר הַזֶּה דּוֹמֶה הוּא לַיְלָדִים הַיּשְׁבִים בַּשְּׁוָקִים וְקֹרְאִים לְחַבְרֵיהֶם לֵאמֹר
17 We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't bemourners.	17 חִלַּלְנוּ לָכֶם בַּחֲלִילִים וְלֹא רִקַּדְתֶּם קוֹנַנּוּ לָכֶם קִינָה וְלֹא סְפַדְתֶּם
18 'For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, "He is possessed."	18 כִּי־בָא־יוֹחָנָן לֹא אֹכֵל וְלֹא שֹׁתֶה וַיֹּאמְרוּ שֵׁד בּוֹ
19 The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they say, "Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend oftax col ectors and sinners." Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.'	19 וַיָּבֹא בֶן־הָאָדָם וְהוּא אֹכֵל וְשֹׁתֶה וַיֹּאמְרוּ הִנֵּה אִישׁ זוֹלֵל וְסֹבֵא וְאֹהֵב מוֹכְסִים וְחַטָּאִים וְנִצְדְּקָה הַחָכְמָה מֵאֵת בָּנֶיהָ
20 Then he began to reproach the towns in which most of his miracles had been worked, because theyrefused to repent.	20 אָז הֵחֵל לִגְעֹר בֶּעָרִים אֲשֶׁר־רֹב גְּבוּרוֹתָיו נַעֲשׂוּ בְתוֹכָן וְלֹא שָׁבוּ
21 'Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done inTyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.	21 אוֹי לָךְ כּוֹרָזִין אוֹי לָךְ בֵּית־צַיְדָה כִּי הַגְּבוּרוֹת אֲשֶׁר נַעֲשֹוּ בְקִרְבְּכֶן לוּ בְּצוֹר וּבְצִידוֹן נַעֲשֹוּ הֲלֹא־כְבָר שָׁבוּ בְּשַׂק וָאֵפֶר
22 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on Judgement Day than for you.	22 אֲבָל אֲנִי אֹמֵר לָכֶם כִּי בְּיוֹם הַדִּין יֵקַל לְצוֹר וְצִידוֹן יוֹתֵר מִכֶּם
23 And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be raised as high as heaven? You shal be flung down tohell. For if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have been standing yet.	23 וְאַתְּ כְּפַר־נַחוּם הַמְרוֹמָמָה עַד־הַשָּׁמַיִם עַד־שְׁאוֹל תּוּרָדִי כִּי הַגְּבוּרוֹת אֲשֶׁר נַעֲשֹוּ בְתוֹכֵךְ לוּ בִסְדוֹם נַעֲשֹוּ כִּי עַתָּה עָמְדָה עַל־תִּלָּהּ עַד־הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה
24 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Sodom on Judgement Day than for you.'	24 אֲבָל אֲנִי אֹמֵר לָכֶם כִּי בְּיוֹם הַדִּין יֵקַל לְאַדְמַת סְדוֹם מִמֵּךְ
25 At that time Jesus exclaimed, 'I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding thesethings from the learned and the clever and revealing them to little children.	25 בָּעֵת הַהִיא עָנָה יֵשׁוּעַ וְאָמַר אוֹדְךָ אָבִי אֲדוֹן הַשָּׁמַיִם וְהָאָרֶץ כִּי הִסְתַּרְתָּ אֶת־אֵלֶּה מִן־הַחֲכָמִים וְהַנְּבוֹנִים וְגִלִּיתָם לָעוֹלָלִים
26 Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do.	26 הֵן אָבִי כִּי כֵן הָיָה רָצוֹן לְפָנֶיךָ
27 Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father,just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.	27 הַכֹּל נִמְסַר־לִי מֵאֵת אָבִי וְאֵין מַכִּיר אֶת־הַבֵּן בִּלְתִּי הָאָב וְאֵין מַכִּיר אֶת־הָאָב בִּלְתִּי הַבֵּן וַאֲשֶׁר יַחְפֹּץ הַבֵּן לְגַלּוֹתוֹ לוֹ
28 'Come to me, al you who labour and are overburdened, and I wil give you rest.	28 בֹּאוּ אֵלַי כָּל־הָעֲמֵלִים וְהַטְּעוּנִים וַאֲנִי אָנִיחַ לָכֶם
29 Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you wil find rest foryour souls.	29 קַבְּלוּ עֲלֵיכֶם אֶת־עֻלִּי וְלִמְדוּ מִמֶּנִּי כִּי־עָנָו וּשְׁפַל רוּחַ אָנֹכִי וְתִמְצְאוּ מַרְגּוֹעַ לְנַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם
30 Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.'	30 כִּי עֻלִּי נָעִים הוּא וְקַל מַשָּׂאִי
	31 הָאֱלֹהִים אֲבִי יֵשׁוּעַ הַמָּשִׁיחַ אֲדֹנֵינוּ הַמְבֹרָךְ לְעוֹלְמֵי עוֹלָמִים הוּא יֹדֵעַ כִּי לֹא אֲשַׁקֵּר
	32 בְּדַמֶּשֶׂק שָׁמַר הַנִּצָּב שֶׁל־הַמֶּלֶךְ אֲרֵטַס אֶת־עִיר הַדַּמַּשְׂקִיִּים וַיְבַקֵּשׁ לְתָפְשֵׂנִי
	33 וּבְעַד הַחַלּוֹן הוֹרִידוּ אֹתִי בְּסַל מֵעַל הַחוֹמָה וַאִמָּלֵט מִיָּדָיו
