Matthew 11

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples he moved on from there to teach and preachin their towns.	1 Quando Gesù ebbe finito di dare i suoi avvertimenti ai suoi dodici discepoli, si mosse di là per insegnare e predicare nelle loro città.
2 Now John had heard in prison what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him,	2 Or Giovanni, quando venne a sapere, in prigione, le opere del Cristo, per mezzo dei suoi discepoli
3 'Are you the one who is to come, or are we to expect someone else?'	3 mandò a dirgli: "Sei tu colui che deve venire o dobbiamo aspettare un altro?".
4 Jesus answered, 'Go back and tel John what you hear and see;	4 Gesù rispose loro: "Andate e annunziate a Giovanni ciò che udite e vedete:
5 the blind see again, and the lame walk, those suffering from virulent skin-diseases are cleansed, andthe deaf hear, the dead are raised to life and the good news is proclaimed to the poor;	5 i ciechi vedono, gli zoppi camminano, i lebbrosi sono mondati, i sordi odono, i morti risorgono e ai poveri viene annunziata la buona novella.
6 and blessed is anyone who does not find me a cause of falling.'	6 Beato è colui che non si scandalizza di me!".
7 As the men were leaving, Jesus began to talk to the people about John, 'What did you go out into thedesert to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No?	7 Mentre quelli se ne andavano, Gesù si mise a parlare di Giovanni alle folle: "Che cosa siete andati a vedere nel deserto? Una canna sbattuta dal vento?
8 Then what did you go out to see? A man wearing fine clothes? Look, those who wear fine clothes areto be found in palaces.	8 Ma che cosa siete andati a vedere? Un uomo avvolto in morbide vesti? Ecco: coloro che indossano morbide vesti dimorano nei palazzi dei re.
9 Then what did you go out for? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet:	9 Ma perché siete andati? A vedere un profeta? Sì, vi dico, e più che un profeta.
10 he is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you toprepare your way before you.	10 Di lui sta scritto: Ecco io mando avanti a te il mio messaggero, egli preparerà dinanzi a te la tua via.
11 'In truth I tel you, of al the children born to women, there has never been anyone greater than Johnthe Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.	11 In verità vi dico: fra i nati di donna non è mai sorto uno più grande di Giovanni il Battista. Ma il più piccolo nel regno dei cieli è più grande di lui.
12 Since John the Baptist came, up to this present time, the kingdom of Heaven has been subjected toviolence and the violent are taking it by storm.	12 Dal tempo di Giovanni il Battista fino ad ora il regno dei cieli è oggetto di violenza, e i violenti vogliono impadronirsene.
13 Because it was towards John that al the prophecies of the prophets and of the Law were leading;	13 Infatti tutti i profeti e la legge fino a Giovanni l'hanno annunziato.
14 and he, if you wil believe me, is the Elijah who was to return.	14 E se volete capirlo, egli è l'Elia che deve venire.
15 Anyone who has ears should listen!	15 Chi ha orecchi, intenda!".
16 'What comparison can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit inthe market place:	16 "A chi paragonerò questa generazione? E' simile a ragazzi che stanno nelle piazze e rivolti ai compagni
17 We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't bemourners.	17 dicono: "Abbiamo per voi suonato e non avete danzato; abbiamo intonato lamenti e non avete pianto".
18 'For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, "He is possessed."	18 E' venuto Giovanni che non mangiava né beveva, e si diceva: "E' indemoniato".
19 The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they say, "Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend oftax col ectors and sinners." Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.'	19 E' venuto il Figlio dell'uomo che mangia e beve, e si dice: "E' un mangione e un beone, amico di pubblicani e peccatori!". Ma alla Sapienza è stata resa giustizia dalle sue opere".
20 Then he began to reproach the towns in which most of his miracles had been worked, because theyrefused to repent.	20 Allora cominciò a inveire contro le città in cui aveva compiuto la maggior parte dei miracoli, perché non si erano convertite:
21 'Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done inTyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.	21 "Guai a te, Corazìn! Guai a te, Betsàida! Poiché, se i prodigi che sono stati compiuti in mezzo a voi fossero stati fatti a Tiro e Sidone, da tempo in cilicio e cenere avrebbero fatto penitenza.
22 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on Judgement Day than for you.	22 Ebbene, vi dico che nel giorno del giudizio la sorte che toccherà a Tiro e Sidone sarà più mite della vostra.
23 And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be raised as high as heaven? You shal be flung down tohell. For if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have been standing yet.	23 E tu, Cafarnao, sarai forse innalzata fino al cielo? Sino agli inferi sarai precipitata. Poiché, se a Sodoma fossero stati compiuti i prodigi che si sono compiuti in te, sarebbe rimasta fino ad oggi.
24 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Sodom on Judgement Day than for you.'	24 Ebbene, vi dico che nel giorno del giudizio la sorte che toccherà alla terra di Sodoma sarà più mite della tua".
25 At that time Jesus exclaimed, 'I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding thesethings from the learned and the clever and revealing them to little children.	25 In quell'occasione Gesù prese a dire: "Mi compiaccio con te, o Padre, Signore del cielo e della terra, che hai tenuto nascoste queste cose ai sapienti e ai saggi e le hai rivelate ai semplici.
26 Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do.	26 Sì, Padre, poiché tale è stato il tuo beneplacito.
27 Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father,just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.	27 Tutto mi è stato dato dal Padre mio: nessuno conosce il Figlio se non il Padre e nessuno conosce il Padre se non il Figlio e colui al quale il Figlio voglia rivelarlo.
28 'Come to me, al you who labour and are overburdened, and I wil give you rest.	28 Venite a me, voi tutti che siete affaticati e stanchi, e io vi darò sollievo.
29 Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you wil find rest foryour souls.	29 Portate su di voi il mio giogo e imparate da me che sono mite e umile di cuore; e troverete ristoro per le vostre anime.
30 Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.'	30 Poiché il mio giogo è soave e leggero è il mio peso!".
