Matthew 11

1 When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples he moved on from there to teach and preachin their towns.	1 - Quando ebbe finito di dare le sue istruzioni a' suoi dodici discepoli, Gesù partì di là per andare a insegnare e predicare nelle loro città.
2 Now John had heard in prison what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him,	2 Avendo Giovanni, nella sua prigione, udito parlare delle opere di Cristo, mandò due suoi discepoli
3 'Are you the one who is to come, or are we to expect someone else?'	3 a interrogarlo: «Sei tu dunque, colui che deve venire, o ne dobbiamo aspettare un altro?».
4 Jesus answered, 'Go back and tel John what you hear and see;	4 E Gesù rispose loro: «Andate a riferire a Giovanni ciò che udite e vedete:
5 the blind see again, and the lame walk, those suffering from virulent skin-diseases are cleansed, andthe deaf hear, the dead are raised to life and the good news is proclaimed to the poor;	5 i ciechi vedono, gli zoppi camminano, i lebbrosi sono mondati, i sordi odono, i morti risorgono e la buona novella è annunciata ai poveri.
6 and blessed is anyone who does not find me a cause of falling.'	6 E beato colui che non si sarà scandalizzato in me».
7 As the men were leaving, Jesus began to talk to the people about John, 'What did you go out into thedesert to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No?	7 Mentre quelli se n'andavan, Gesù cominciò a parlare di Giovanni alla folla: «Che siete andati a vedere nel deserto? Una canna agitata dal vento?
8 Then what did you go out to see? A man wearing fine clothes? Look, those who wear fine clothes areto be found in palaces.	8 Che andaste dunque a vedere? Un uomo avvolto in morbide vesti? Ma coloro che portano morbide vesti stanno nei palazzi dei re.
9 Then what did you go out for? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet:	9 Che andaste dunque a vedere? Un profeta? Sì, vi dico; anzi più che un profeta.
10 he is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you toprepare your way before you.	10 Egli è colui del quale sta scritto: «" Ecco, io mando il mio angelo davanti a te per precederti e prepararti la via ".
11 'In truth I tel you, of al the children born to women, there has never been anyone greater than Johnthe Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.	11 In verità, vi dico che tra i nati di donna non è sorto mai alcuno più grande di Giovanni Battista; tuttavia il più piccolo nel regno dei cieli, e più grande di lui.
12 Since John the Baptist came, up to this present time, the kingdom of Heaven has been subjected toviolence and the violent are taking it by storm.	12 Dal tempo di Giovanni Battista fino a oggi il regno dei cieli si acquista con la forza e i violenti se ne impadroniscono.
13 Because it was towards John that al the prophecies of the prophets and of the Law were leading;	13 Perchè tutti i Profeti e la legge hanno profetato fino a Giovanni.
14 and he, if you wil believe me, is the Elijah who was to return.	14 E se voi lo volete accogliere, egli è quell'Elia che deve venire.
15 Anyone who has ears should listen!	15 Chi ha orecchi da intendere intenda.
16 'What comparison can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit inthe market place:	16 A chi paragonerò questa generazione? Essa è simile a quei ragazzi che, seduti nelle piazze
17 We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't bemourners.	17 gridano ai loro compagni: - Abbiam sonato il flauto e voi non avete ballato; vi abbiam cantato canzoni lamentevoli e voi non avete pianto. -
18 'For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, "He is possessed."	18 Infatti è venuto Giovanni, che non mangiava e non beveva, e gli han detto: - È indemoniato. -
19 The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they say, "Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend oftax col ectors and sinners." Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.'	19 È venuto il Figliuol dell'uomo, che mangia e beve e gli dicono: - Ecco un mangione ed un bevone, amico dei pubblicani e dei peccatori. - E così la Sapienza è stata giustificata da' suoi figli».
20 Then he began to reproach the towns in which most of his miracles had been worked, because theyrefused to repent.	20 Allora Gesù cominciò a rinfacciare alle città, nelle quali aveva compiuto il maggior numero dei suoi miracoli, che non avessero fatto penitenza:
21 'Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done inTyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.	21 «Guai a te, Corozain! Guai a te, Betsaida! Perchè se in Tiro e Sidone fossero stati fatti i miracoli compiuti in mezzo a voi, avrebbero già fatto da molto tempo penitenza in cenere e in cilicio.
22 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on Judgement Day than for you.	22 Perciò vi dico che nel giorno del giudizio sarà usato minor rigore a Tiro e a Sidone che non a voi.
23 And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be raised as high as heaven? You shal be flung down tohell. For if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have been standing yet.	23 E tu, o Cafarnao, sarai esaltata forse sino al cielo? No, sarai abbassata fino all'inferno; perchè se in Sodoma fossero stati operati i miracoli compiuti tra le tue mura, essa sarebbe rimasta in piedi fino a oggi.
24 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Sodom on Judgement Day than for you.'	24 Perciò ti dico che nel dì del giudizio sarà usato men rigore a Sodoma che a te».
25 At that time Jesus exclaimed, 'I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding thesethings from the learned and the clever and revealing them to little children.	25 In quel tempo Gesù disse ancora: «Io ti rendo lode, o Padre, Signore del cielo e della terra, perchè hai nascosto queste cose ai dotti e ai sapienti e l'hai rivelate ai piccoli.
26 Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do.	26 Sì, o Padre, perchè così t'è piaciuto.
27 Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father,just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.	27 Ogni cosa m'è stata data dal Padre mio; e nessuno conosce perfettamente il Figlio tranne il Padre; e nessuno conosce perfettamente il Padre tranne il Figlio e colui al quale il Figlio avrà voluto rivelarlo.
28 'Come to me, al you who labour and are overburdened, and I wil give you rest.	28 Venite a me voi tutti, che siete affaticati e oppressi ed io vi consolerò.
29 Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you wil find rest foryour souls.	29 Prendete su voi il mio giogo e imparate da me che sono mansueto e umile di cuore, e voi troverete riposo alle anime vostre;
30 Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.'	30 poichè il mio giogo è dolce e il mio carico è leggiero».
