Matthew 11

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples he moved on from there to teach and preachin their towns.	1 Y sucedió que, cuando acabó Jesús de dar instrucciones a sus doce discípulos, partió de allí para enseñar y predicar en sus ciudades.
2 Now John had heard in prison what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him,	2 Juan, que en la cárcel había oído hablar de las obras de Cristo, envió a sus discípulos a decirle:
3 'Are you the one who is to come, or are we to expect someone else?'	3 «¿Eres tú el que ha de venir, o debemos esperar a otro?»
4 Jesus answered, 'Go back and tel John what you hear and see;	4 Jesús les respondió: «Id y contad a Juan lo que oís y veis:
5 the blind see again, and the lame walk, those suffering from virulent skin-diseases are cleansed, andthe deaf hear, the dead are raised to life and the good news is proclaimed to the poor;	5 los ciegos ven y los cojos andan, los leprosos quedan limpios y los sordos oyen, los muertos resucitan y se anuncia a los pobres la Buena Nueva;
6 and blessed is anyone who does not find me a cause of falling.'	6 ¡y dichoso aquel que no halle escándalo en mí!»
7 As the men were leaving, Jesus began to talk to the people about John, 'What did you go out into thedesert to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No?	7 Cuando éstos se marchaban, se puso Jesús a hablar de Juan a la gente: «¿Qué salisteis a ver en el desierto? ¿Una caña agitada por el viento?
8 Then what did you go out to see? A man wearing fine clothes? Look, those who wear fine clothes areto be found in palaces.	8 ¿Qué salisteis a ver, si no? ¿Un hombre elegantemente vestido? ¡No! Los que visten con elegancia están en los palacios de los reyes.
9 Then what did you go out for? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet:	9 Entonces ¿a qué salisteis? ¿A ver un profeta? Sí, os digo, y más que un profeta.
10 he is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you toprepare your way before you.	10 Este es de quien está escrito: He aquí que yo envío mi mensajero delante de ti, que preparará por delante tu camino.
11 'In truth I tel you, of al the children born to women, there has never been anyone greater than Johnthe Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.	11 «En verdad os digo que no ha surgido entre los nacidos de mujer uno mayor que Juan el Bautista; sin embargo, el más pequeño en el Reino de los Cielos es mayor que él.
12 Since John the Baptist came, up to this present time, the kingdom of Heaven has been subjected toviolence and the violent are taking it by storm.	12 Desde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, el Reino de los Cielos sufre violencia, y los violentos lo arrebatan.
13 Because it was towards John that al the prophecies of the prophets and of the Law were leading;	13 Pues todos los profetas, lo mismo que la Ley, hasta Juan profetizaron.
14 and he, if you wil believe me, is the Elijah who was to return.	14 Y, si queréis admitirlo, él es Elías, el que iba a venir.
15 Anyone who has ears should listen!	15 El que tenga oídos, que oiga.
16 'What comparison can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit inthe market place:	16 «¿Pero, con quién compararé a esta generación? Se parece a los chiquillos que, sentados en las plazas, se gritan unos a otros diciendo:
17 We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't bemourners.	17 “Os hemos tocado la flauta, y no habéis bailado, os hemos entonado endechas, y no os habéis lamentado.”
18 'For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, "He is possessed."	18 Porque vino Juan, que ni comía ni bebía, y dicen: “Demonio tiene.”
19 The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they say, "Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend oftax col ectors and sinners." Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.'	19 Vino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: “Ahí tenéis un comilón y un borracho, amigo de publicanos y pecadores.” Y la Sabiduría se ha acreditado por sus obras».
20 Then he began to reproach the towns in which most of his miracles had been worked, because theyrefused to repent.	20 Entonces se puso a maldecir a las ciudades en las que se habían realizado la mayoría de sus milagros, porque no se habían convertido:
21 'Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done inTyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.	21 «¡Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida! Porque si en Tiro y en Sidón se hubieran hecho los milagros que se han hecho en vosotras, tiempo ha que en sayal y ceniza se habrían convertido.
22 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on Judgement Day than for you.	22 Por eso os digo que el día del Juicio habrá menos rigor para Tiro y Sidón que para vosotras.
23 And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be raised as high as heaven? You shal be flung down tohell. For if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have been standing yet.	23 Y tú, Cafarnaúm, ¿hasta el cielo te vas a encumbrar? ¡Hasta el Hades te hundirás! Porque si en Sodoma se hubieran hecho los milagros que se han hecho en ti, aún subsistiría el día de hoy.
24 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Sodom on Judgement Day than for you.'	24 Por eso os digo que el día del Juicio habrá menos rigor para la tierra de Sodoma que para ti».
25 At that time Jesus exclaimed, 'I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding thesethings from the learned and the clever and revealing them to little children.	25 En aquel tiempo, tomando Jesús la palabra, dijo: «Yo te bendigo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque has ocultado estas cosas a sabios e inteligentes, y se las has revelado a pequeños.
26 Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do.	26 Sí, Padre, pues tal ha sido tu beneplácito.
27 Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father,just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.	27 Todo me ha sido entregado por mi Padre, y nadie conoce bien al Hijo sino el Padre, ni al Padre le conoce bien nadie sino el Hijo, y aquel a quien el Hijo se lo quiera revelar.
28 'Come to me, al you who labour and are overburdened, and I wil give you rest.	28 «Venid a mí todos los que estáis fatigados y sobrecargados, y yo os daré descanso.
29 Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you wil find rest foryour souls.	29 Tomad sobre vosotros mi yugo, y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón; y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas.
30 Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.'	30 Porque mi yugo es suave y mi carga ligera».
