Matthew 11

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples he moved on from there to teach and preachin their towns.	1 Cuando Jesús terminó de dar estas instrucciones a sus doce discípulos, partió de allí, para enseñar y predicar en las ciudades de la región.
2 Now John had heard in prison what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him,	2 Juan el Bautista oyó hablar en la cárcel de las obras de Cristo, y mandó a dos de sus discípulos para preguntarle:
3 'Are you the one who is to come, or are we to expect someone else?'	3 «¿Eres tú el que ha de venir o debemos esperar a otro?».
4 Jesus answered, 'Go back and tel John what you hear and see;	4 Jesús les respondió: «Vayan a contar a Juan lo que ustedes oyen y ven:
5 the blind see again, and the lame walk, those suffering from virulent skin-diseases are cleansed, andthe deaf hear, the dead are raised to life and the good news is proclaimed to the poor;	5 los ciegos ven y los paralíticos caminan; los leprosos son purificados y los sordos oyen; los muertos resucitan y la Buena Noticia es anunciada a los pobres.
6 and blessed is anyone who does not find me a cause of falling.'	6 ¡Y feliz aquel para quien yo no sea motivo de escándalo!».
7 As the men were leaving, Jesus began to talk to the people about John, 'What did you go out into thedesert to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No?	7 Mientras los enviados de Juan se retiraban, Jesús empezó a hablar de él a la multitud, diciendo: «¿Qué fueron a ver al desierto? ¿Una caña agitada por el viento?
8 Then what did you go out to see? A man wearing fine clothes? Look, those who wear fine clothes areto be found in palaces.	8 ¿Qué fueron a ver? ¿Un hombre vestido con refinamiento? Los que se visten de esa manera viven en los palacios de los reyes.
9 Then what did you go out for? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet:	9 ¿Qué fueron a ver entonces? ¿Un profeta? Les aseguro que sí, y más que un profeta.
10 he is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you toprepare your way before you.	10 El es aquel de quien está escrito: "Yo envío a mi mensajero delante de ti, para prepararte el camino".
11 'In truth I tel you, of al the children born to women, there has never been anyone greater than Johnthe Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.	11 Les aseguro que no ha nacido ningún hombre más grande que Juan el Bautista; y sin embargo, el más pequeño en el Reino de los Cielos es más grande que él.
12 Since John the Baptist came, up to this present time, the kingdom of Heaven has been subjected toviolence and the violent are taking it by storm.	12 Desde la época de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, el Reino de los Cielos es combatido violentamente, y los violentos intentan arrebatarlo.
13 Because it was towards John that al the prophecies of the prophets and of the Law were leading;	13 Porque todos los Profetas, lo mismo que la Ley, han profetizado hasta Juan.
14 and he, if you wil believe me, is the Elijah who was to return.	14 Y si ustedes quieren crearme, él es aquel Elías que debe volver.
15 Anyone who has ears should listen!	15 ¡El que tenga oídos, que oiga!
16 'What comparison can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit inthe market place:	16 ¿Con quién puedo comparar a esta generación? Se parece a esos muchachos que, sentados en la plaza, gritan a los otros:
17 We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't bemourners.	17 «¡Les tocamos la flauta, y ustedes no bailaron! ¡Entonamos cantos fúnebres, y no lloraron!»
18 'For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, "He is possessed."	18 Porque llegó Juan, que no come ni bebe, y ustedes dicen: «¡Ha perdido la cabeza!».
19 The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they say, "Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend oftax col ectors and sinners." Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.'	19 Llegó el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: «Es un glotón y un borracho, amigo de publicanos y pecadores». Pero la Sabiduría ha quedado justificada por sus obras».
20 Then he began to reproach the towns in which most of his miracles had been worked, because theyrefused to repent.	20 Entonces Jesús comenzó a recriminar a aquellas ciudades donde había realizado más milagros, porque no se habían convertido.
21 'Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done inTyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.	21 «¡Ay de ti, Corozaín! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida! Porque si los milagros realizados entre ustedes se hubieran hecho en Tiro y en Sidón, hace tiempo que se habrían convertido, poniéndose cilicio y cubriéndose con ceniza.
22 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on Judgement Day than for you.	22 Yo les aseguro que, en el día del Juicio, Tiro y Sidón serán tratadas menos rigurosamente que ustedes.
23 And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be raised as high as heaven? You shal be flung down tohell. For if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have been standing yet.	23 Y tú, Cafarnaúm, ¿acaso crees que serás elevada hasta el cielo? No, serás precipitada hasta el infierno. Porque si los milagros realizados en ti se hubieran hecho en Sodoma, esa ciudad aún existiría.
24 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Sodom on Judgement Day than for you.'	24 Yo les aseguro que, en el día del Juicio, la tierra de Sodoma será tratada menos rigurosamente que tú».
25 At that time Jesus exclaimed, 'I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding thesethings from the learned and the clever and revealing them to little children.	25 En esa oportunidad, Jesús dijo: «Te alabo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, por haber ocultado estas cosas a los sabios y a los prudentes y haberlas revelado a los pequeños.
26 Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do.	26 Sí, Padre, porque así lo has querido.
27 Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father,just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.	27 Todo me ha sido dado por mi Padre, y nadie conoce al Hijo sino el Padre, así como nadie conoce al Padre sino el Hijo y aquel a quien el Hijo se lo quiera revelar.
28 'Come to me, al you who labour and are overburdened, and I wil give you rest.	28 Vengan a mí todos los que están afligidos y agobiados, y yo los aliviaré.
29 Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you wil find rest foryour souls.	29 Carguen sobre ustedes mi yugo y aprendan de mí, porque soy paciente y humilde de corazón, y así encontrarán alivio.
30 Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.'	30 Porque mi yugo es suave y mi carga liviana.
