Haggai 2

NEW JERUSALEM	VULGATA
1 on the twenty-first day of the seventh month, the word of Yahweh was addressed through the prophetHaggai, as follows,	1 In die vigesima et quarta mensis, in sexto mense, in anno secundo Darii regis.
2 'You are to speak to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel governor of Judah, to Joshua son of Jehozadak thehigh priest and to the remnant of the people. Say this,	2 In septimo mense, vigesima et prima mensis, factum est verbum Domini in manu Aggæi prophetæ, dicens :
3 "Is there anyone left among you who saw this Temple in its former glory? And how does it look to younow? Does it not seem as though there is nothing there?	3 Loquere ad Zorobabel, filium Salathiel, ducem Juda, et ad Jesum, filium Josedec, sacerdotem magnum, et ad reliquos populi, dicens :
4 But take courage now, Zerubbabel!-Yahweh declares. Courage, Joshua son of Jehozadak high priest!Courage, al you people of the country!-Yahweh declares. To work! I am with you -- Yahweh Sabaoth declares-	4 Quis in vobis est derelictus, qui vidit domum istam in gloria sua prima ? et quid vos videtis hanc nunc ? numquid non ita est, quasi non sit in oculis vestris ?
5 and my spirit is present among you. Do not be afraid!	5 Et nunc confortare, Zorobabel, dicit Dominus ; et confortare, Jesu, fili Josedec, sacerdos magne ; et confortare, omnis populus terræ, dicit Dominus exercituum : et facite (quoniam ego vobiscum sum, dicit Dominus exercituum)
6 For Yahweh Sabaoth says this: A little while now, and I shal shake the heavens and the earth, the seaand the dry land.	6 verbum quod pepigi vobiscum cum egrederemini de terra Ægypti : et spiritus meus erit in medio vestrum : nolite timere.
7 I shal shake al the nations, and the treasures of al the nations will flow in, and I shal fil this Templewith glory, says Yahweh Sabaoth.	7 Quia hæc dicit Dominus exercituum : Adhuc unum modicum est, et ego commovebo cælum, et terram, et mare, et aridam.
8 Mine is the silver, mine the gold!-Yahweh Sabaoth declares.	8 Et movebo omnes gentes, et veniet desideratus cunctis gentibus : et implebo domum istam gloria, dicit Dominus exercituum.
9 The glory of this new Temple wil surpass that of the old, says Yahweh Sabaoth, and in this place I shalgive peace -- Yahweh Sabaoth declares." '	9 Meum est argentum, et meum est aurum, dicit Dominus exercituum.
10 On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh wasaddressed to the prophet Haggai as fol ows,	10 Magna erit gloria domus istius novissimæ plus quam primæ, dicit Dominus exercituum : et in loco isto dabo pacem, dicit Dominus exercituum.
11 'Yahweh Sabaoth says this, "Ask the priests to give a ruling on this:	11 In vigesima et quarta noni mensis, in anno secundo Darii regis, factum est verbum Domini ad Aggæum prophetam, dicens :
12 If someone is carrying consecrated meat in the fold of his gown and al ows the fold to touch bread,broth, wine, oil or food of any kind, wil that become holy?" ' The priests replied, 'No.'	12 Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum : Interroga sacerdotes legem, dicens :
13 Haggai then said, 'If anyone rendered unclean by contact with a corpse touches any of these things,wil that become unclean?' The priests replied, 'It wil become unclean.'	13 Si tulerit homo carnem sanctificatam in ora vestimenti sui, et tetigerit de summitate ejus panem, aut pulmentum, aut vinum, aut oleum, aut omnem cibum, numquid sanctificabitur ? Respondentes autem sacerdotes, dixerunt : Non.
14 Haggai then spoke out. 'It is the same with this people,' he said, 'the same with this nation, in my view-- Yahweh declares -- the same with everything they turn their hands to; and whatever they offer here is unclean.	14 Et dixit Aggæus : Si tetigerit pollutus in anima ex omnibus his, numquid contaminabitur ? Et responderunt sacerdotes, et dixerunt : Contaminabitur.
15 'So now think carefully, today and henceforth: before one stone had been laid on another in thesanctuary of Yahweh,	15 Et respondit Aggæus, et dixit : Sic populus iste, et sic gens ista ante faciem meam, dicit Dominus, et sic omne opus manuum eorum : et omnia quæ obtulerunt ibi, contaminata erunt.
16 what state were you in? You would come to a twenty-measure heap and find only ten; you wouldcome to a vat to draw fifty measures and find only twenty.	16 Et nunc ponite corda vestra a die hac et supra, antequam poneretur lapis super lapidem in templo Domini.
17 Everything you turned your hands to, I struck with wind-blast, mildew and hail, and stil you would notreturn to me -- Yahweh declares.	17 Cum accederetis ad acervum viginti modiorum, et fierent decem ; et intraretis ad torcular, ut exprimeretis quinquaginta lagenas, et fiebant viginti.
18 So think careful y, today and henceforth (from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the daythe foundation of the sanctuary of Yahweh was laid, think careful y)	18 Percussi vos vento urente, et aurugine, et grandine omnia opera manuum vestrarum : et non fuit in vobis qui reverteretur ad me, dicit Dominus.
19 if seed-corn is stil short in the barn, and if vine and fig tree, pomegranate and olive tree still bear nofruit. 'From today onwards I intend to bless you.'	19 Ponite corda vestra ex die ista, et in futurum, a die vigesima et quarta noni mensis : a die qua fundamenta jacta sunt templi Domini, ponite super cor vestrum.
20 On the twenty-fourth day of the month the word of Yahweh was addressed a second time to Haggai,as fol ows,	20 Numquid jam semen in germine est, et adhuc vinea, et ficus, et malogranatum, et lignum olivæ non floruit ? ex die ista benedicam.
21 'Speak to Zerubbabel governor of Judah. Say this, "I am going to shake the heavens and the earth.	21 Et factum est verbum Domini secundo ad Aggæum in vigesima et quarta mensis, dicens :
22 I shal overturn the thrones of kingdoms and destroy the power of the kings of the nations. I shalloverthrow the chariots and their crews; horses and their riders wil fall, every one to the sword of his comrade.	22 Loquere ad Zorobabel ducem Juda, dicens : Ego movebo cælum pariter et terram,
23 When that day comes -- Yahweh Sabaoth declares -- I shal take you, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel myservant -- Yahweh declares -- and make you like a signet ring. For I have chosen you -- Yahweh Sabaothdeclares." '	23 et subvertam solium regnorum, et conteram fortitudinem regni gentium : et subvertam quadrigam et ascensorem ejus, et descendent equi, et ascensores eorum, vir in gladio fratris sui.
	24 In die illa, dicit Dominus exercituum, assumam te, Zorobabel, fili Salathiel, serve meus, dicit Dominus : et ponam te quasi signaculum, quia te elegi, dicit Dominus exercituum.
