Zephaniah 1

NEW JERUSALEM	Le Sainte Bible Vigouroux
1 The word of Yahweh which was addressed to Zephaniah son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son ofAmariah, son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah.	1 Parole du Seigneur, qui fut adressée à Sophonie, fils de Chusi, fils de Godolias, fils d'Amarias, fils d'Ezéchias (Ezécias), aux jours de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda.
2 I shall sweep away everything off the face of the earth, declares Yahweh.	2 Je détruirai (Rassemblant, je rassemblerai, note) tout sur la face de la terre, dit le Seigneur ;
3 I shall sweep away humans and animals, the birds of the air and the fish of the sea, I shal topple thewicked and wipe al people off the face of the earth -declares Yahweh.	3 je détruirai (rassemblant) les hommes et les bêtes, je détruirai (rassemblant) les oiseaux du ciel et les poissons de la mer ; je ruinerai les impies, et j'exterminerai les hommes de la face de la terre, dit le Seigneur.
4 I shall raise my hand against Judah and against al who live in Jerusalem, and from this place I wil wipeout Baal's remnant, the very name of his priests,	4 J'étendrai ma main sur Juda et sur tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et j'exterminerai de ce lieu les restes de Baal, et les noms de ses ministres (gardiens du temple) avec les prêtres ;
5 and those who prostrate themselves on the roofs before the array of heaven, and those who prostratethemselves before Yahweh but swear by Milcom,	5 ceux qui adorent sur les toits l'armée (la milice) du ciel, ceux qui adorent le Seigneur et jurent en son nom, et qui jurent au nom de Melchom ;
6 and those who have turned their back on Yahweh, who do not seek Yahweh and do not consult him.	6 ceux qui se détournent (en arrière) du Seigneur, et qui ne cherchent pas le Seigneur, et n'essayent pas de le trouver.
7 Silence before Lord Yahweh, for the Day of Yahweh is near! Yahweh has prepared a sacrifice, he hasconsecrated his guests.	7 Demeurez en silence devant le Seigneur Dieu, car le jour du Seigneur est proche ; car le Seigneur a préparé la victime, il a invité (sanctifié) ses conviés (convives),
8 On the Day of Yahweh's sacrifice, I shal punish the courtiers, the royal princes and al who dress inoutlandish clothes.	8 et voici, au jour de la victime du Seigneur, je visiterai les princes, et les fils du roi, et tous ceux qui portent des vêtements étrangers ;
9 On that day I shal punish al who go up the Step and fil the Temple of their lords, with violence anddeceit.	9 je châtierai (visiterai) en ce jour-là tous ceux qui franchissent insolemment le seuil, et qui remplissent d'iniquité et de tromperie la maison du Seigneur leur Dieu.
10 On that Day -- declares Yahweh -- uproar wil be heard from the Fish Gate, wailing from the NewQuarter and a great crash from the hil s.	10 En ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur, on entendra de la porte des Poissons un grand cri, et de la seconde porte des hurlements, et un (bruit de) grand désastre du haut des collines.
11 Wail, you who live in the Hollow, for it is al over with the merchants, all the money-bags have beenwiped out!	11 Hurlez, habitants du mortier (de Pila, note) ; tout le peuple de Chanaan a été réduit au silence (s'est tu), tous les hommes couverts d'argent ont été exterminés.
12 When that time comes I shal search Jerusalem by lamplight and punish the men stagnating over theremains of their wine, who say in their hearts, 'Yahweh can do nothing, either good or bad.'	12 En ce temps-là, je fouillerai Jérusalem avec des lampes, et je châtierai (visiterai) ceux qui sont enfoncés dans leur lie ; qui disent en leur cœur : Le Seigneur ne fera ni bien ni mal.
13 For this, their wealth wil be looted and their houses laid in ruins; they wil build houses but not live inthem, they wil plant vineyards but not drink their wine.	13 Leurs richesses seront pillées, et leurs maisons deviendront un désert ; ils bâtiront des maisons, et ils n'y habiteront pas ; ils planteront des vignes, et ils n'en boiront pas le vin.
14 The great Day of Yahweh is near, near, and coming with great speed. How bitter the sound of the Dayof Yahweh, the Day when the warrior shouts his cry of war.	14 Le grand jour du Seigneur est proche ; il est proche et il s'avance rapidement (est extrêmement prompt) ; le bruit (voix) du jour du Seigneur est amer(ère) ; là le vaillant sera accablé de maux (le fort sera dans la tribulation).
15 That Day is a day of retribution, a day of distress and tribulation, a day of ruin and of devastation, aday of darkness and gloom, a day of cloud and thick fog,	15 Ce jour sera un jour de colère, un jour d'affliction et d'angoisse, un jour de calamité et de misère, un jour de ténèbres et d'obscurité, un jour de nuage et de tempête,
16 a day of trumpet blast and battle cry against fortified town and high corner-tower.	16 un jour de trompette et de cris de guerre (bruit retentissant) contre les villes fortes et les tours (angles) élevées.
17 I shal bring such distress on humanity that they will grope their way like the blind for having sinnedagainst Yahweh. Their blood wil be poured out like mud, yes, their corpses like dung;	17 J'affligerai les hommes, et ils marcheront comme des aveugles, parce qu'ils ont péché contre le Seigneur ; leur sang sera répandu comme la poussière, et leurs cadavres seront comme du fumier.
18 nor wil their silver or gold be able to save them. On the Day of Yahweh's anger, by the fire of hisjealousy, the whole earth will be consumed. For he will destroy, yes, annihilate everyone living on earth.	18 Leur or même et leur argent ne pourront pas les délivrer au jour de la colère du Seigneur ; le feu de son indignation (zèle) dévorera toute la terre, car il se hâtera d'exterminer tous les habitants de la terre.
