Zephaniah 1

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The word of Yahweh which was addressed to Zephaniah son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son ofAmariah, son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah.	1 Parola del Signore a Sofonia, figlio di Cusci, figlio di Godolia, figlio di Amaria, figlio di Ezechia, al tempo di Giosia, figlio di Amon, re di Giuda.
2 I shall sweep away everything off the face of the earth, declares Yahweh.	2 Sì, sopprimerò tutto dalla faccia della terra! Oracolo del Signore.
3 I shall sweep away humans and animals, the birds of the air and the fish of the sea, I shal topple thewicked and wipe al people off the face of the earth -declares Yahweh.	3 Raccoglierò uomini e animali, raccoglierò gli uccelli del cielo e i pesci del mare; farò inciampare gli empi e cancellerò l'uomo dalla faccia della terra! Oracolo del Signore.
4 I shall raise my hand against Judah and against al who live in Jerusalem, and from this place I wil wipeout Baal's remnant, the very name of his priests,	4 Stenderò la mia mano contro Giuda e contro tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme; cancellerò da questo luogo perfino i resti di Baal, il nome degli inservienti insieme ai sacerdoti;
5 and those who prostrate themselves on the roofs before the array of heaven, and those who prostratethemselves before Yahweh but swear by Milcom,	5 coloro che si prostrano sui tetti davanti all'esercito del cielo, coloro che si prostrano davanti al Signore e giurano per Milcom;
6 and those who have turned their back on Yahweh, who do not seek Yahweh and do not consult him.	6 coloro che si allontanano dal Signore, non lo cercano né se ne interessano.
7 Silence before Lord Yahweh, for the Day of Yahweh is near! Yahweh has prepared a sacrifice, he hasconsecrated his guests.	7 Silenzio davanti al Signore Dio perché è vicino il giorno del Signore! Il Signore ha preparato un sacrificio, ha santificato i suoi invitati!
8 On the Day of Yahweh's sacrifice, I shal punish the courtiers, the royal princes and al who dress inoutlandish clothes.	8 Nel giorno del sacrificio del Signore visiterò tutti i prìncipi, i figli del re e quanti vestono alla moda straniera;
9 On that day I shal punish al who go up the Step and fil the Temple of their lords, with violence anddeceit.	9 visiterò tutti coloro che salgono al soglio del re; che riempiono il palazzo del loro signore di violenza e di menzogna.
10 On that Day -- declares Yahweh -- uproar wil be heard from the Fish Gate, wailing from the NewQuarter and a great crash from the hil s.	10 In quel giorno, oracolo del Signore, un clamore si eleverà dalla Porta dei Pesci, urla dal quartiere nuovo, grande frastuono dai colli,
11 Wail, you who live in the Hollow, for it is al over with the merchants, all the money-bags have beenwiped out!	11 urla degli abitanti del Mortaio! E' annientata tutta la gente di Canaan, sono cancellati tutti i pesatori d'argento!
12 When that time comes I shal search Jerusalem by lamplight and punish the men stagnating over theremains of their wine, who say in their hearts, 'Yahweh can do nothing, either good or bad.'	12 In quel tempo: frugherò Gerusalemme con le lampade, visiterò gli spensierati, coloro che si abbandonano alle crapule, coloro che pensano nel proprio cuore: il Signore non può farci né bene né male!
13 For this, their wealth wil be looted and their houses laid in ruins; they wil build houses but not live inthem, they wil plant vineyards but not drink their wine.	13 I loro beni saranno saccheggiati e le loro case distrutte; costruiranno case, ma senza abitarle, pianteranno vigne, ma senza berne il vino.
14 The great Day of Yahweh is near, near, and coming with great speed. How bitter the sound of the Dayof Yahweh, the Day when the warrior shouts his cry of war.	14 E' vicino il gran giorno del Signore, è vicino e arriva in gran fretta! Grido amaro del giorno del Signore: un guerriero che leva il grido di guerra!
15 That Day is a day of retribution, a day of distress and tribulation, a day of ruin and of devastation, aday of darkness and gloom, a day of cloud and thick fog,	15 Giorno di collera, quel giorno, giorno di angustia e di tribolazione; giorno di turbine e tempesta, giorno di tenebre e caligine; giorno di nubi e di oscurità,
16 a day of trumpet blast and battle cry against fortified town and high corner-tower.	16 giorno di squilli e grida di battaglia, sulle città fortificate e sulle torrette d'angolo elevate!
17 I shal bring such distress on humanity that they will grope their way like the blind for having sinnedagainst Yahweh. Their blood wil be poured out like mud, yes, their corpses like dung;	17 Io li ridurrò all'angoscia ed essi barcolleranno come ciechi, perché hanno peccato contro il Signore; il loro sangue sarà sparso come la polvere e la loro carne come gli escrementi!
18 nor wil their silver or gold be able to save them. On the Day of Yahweh's anger, by the fire of hisjealousy, the whole earth will be consumed. For he will destroy, yes, annihilate everyone living on earth.	18 Né il loro argento né l'oro li potrà salvare. Nel giorno della collera del Signore, dal fuoco del suo zelo sarà divorata la terra! Infatti distruggerà, anzi sterminerà tutti gli abitanti della terra!
