Zephaniah 1

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 The word of Yahweh which was addressed to Zephaniah son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son ofAmariah, son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah.	1 Parola del Signore, rivolta a Sofonia, figlio di Cusi, figlio di Godolia, figlio di Amaria, figlio di Ezechia, nei giorni di Giosia, figlio di Amon, re di Giuda.
2 I shall sweep away everything off the face of the earth, declares Yahweh.	2 Io raccoglierò e porterò via ogni cosa dalla terra — dice il Signore. —
3 I shall sweep away humans and animals, the birds of the air and the fish of the sea, I shal topple thewicked and wipe al people off the face of the earth -declares Yahweh.	3 Porterò via uomini e bestie, porterò via gli uccelli del cielo e i pesci del mare, e verranno le rovine degli empi, e sterminerò gli uomini dalla faccia della terra — dice il Signore.
4 I shall raise my hand against Judah and against al who live in Jerusalem, and from this place I wil wipeout Baal's remnant, the very name of his priests,	4 E stenderò la mia mano sopra Giuda e sopra tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, e sterminerò da questo luogo, gli avanzi di Baal, i nomi dei custodi del (suo) tempio coi sacerdoti
5 and those who prostrate themselves on the roofs before the array of heaven, and those who prostratethemselves before Yahweh but swear by Milcom,	5 e quelli che adorano sopra i tetti la milizia del cielo, e quelli che adorano e giurano pel Signore, e giurano anche per Melcom
6 and those who have turned their back on Yahweh, who do not seek Yahweh and do not consult him.	6 e quelli che han cessato d'andar dietro al Signore, e non cercano il Signore, e non vanno in traccia di lui.
7 Silence before Lord Yahweh, for the Day of Yahweh is near! Yahweh has prepared a sacrifice, he hasconsecrated his guests.	7 Tacete dinanzi al Signore Dio perchè il giorno del Signore è vicino, perchè il Signore ha preparata la vittima, ha santificati i suoi invitati.
8 On the Day of Yahweh's sacrifice, I shal punish the courtiers, the royal princes and al who dress inoutlandish clothes.	8 E allora, nel giorno della vittima del Signore, io verrò a trovare (col castigo) i principi e i figli del re, e tutti quelli che indossano abiti peregrini,
9 On that day I shal punish al who go up the Step and fil the Temple of their lords, with violence anddeceit.	9 e verrò a trovare in quel giorno tutti quelli che con arroganza passano la soglia (del tempio), e riempiono di violenza e di frode la casa del Signore loro Dio.
10 On that Day -- declares Yahweh -- uproar wil be heard from the Fish Gate, wailing from the NewQuarter and a great crash from the hil s.	10 Allora in quel giorno — dice il Signore — si sentiranno le strida dalla Porta dei Pesci, e gli urli dalla Seconda, e la grande strage dalle colline.
11 Wail, you who live in the Hollow, for it is al over with the merchants, all the money-bags have beenwiped out!	11 Alzate le strida, o abitanti di Pila, tutto il popolo di Canaan è ammutolito, sono spariti tutti quelli ravvolti nell'argento.
12 When that time comes I shal search Jerusalem by lamplight and punish the men stagnating over theremains of their wine, who say in their hearts, 'Yahweh can do nothing, either good or bad.'	12 Allora, in quel tempo, io scruterò Gerusalemme colle lanterne, e castigherò gli uomini fitti nelle loro immondezze, i quali dicono in cuor loro: « Il Signore non ci farà nè del bene nè del male ».
13 For this, their wealth wil be looted and their houses laid in ruins; they wil build houses but not live inthem, they wil plant vineyards but not drink their wine.	13 I loro beni saran saccheggiati, le loro case distrutte, non abiteranno i palazzi da loro fabbricati, non berranno il vino delle vigne da loro piantate.
14 The great Day of Yahweh is near, near, and coming with great speed. How bitter the sound of the Dayof Yahweh, the Day when the warrior shouts his cry of war.	14 E' vicino il gran giorno del Signore, è vicino e viene in un lampo. La voce del giorno del Signore è straziante, e i potenti ne saranno affannati.
15 That Day is a day of retribution, a day of distress and tribulation, a day of ruin and of devastation, aday of darkness and gloom, a day of cloud and thick fog,	15 Quello sarà un giorno d'ira, un giorno di tribolazione e d'angoscia, un giorno di calamità e di miseria, un giorno di tenebre e di caligine, un giorno di nebbie e di bufere;
16 a day of trumpet blast and battle cry against fortified town and high corner-tower.	16 il giorno della tromba e del tumulto contro le città forti e le torri elevate.
17 I shal bring such distress on humanity that they will grope their way like the blind for having sinnedagainst Yahweh. Their blood wil be poured out like mud, yes, their corpses like dung;	17 Io metterò gli uomini nelle tribolazioni, ed essi cammineranno come ciechi, perchè han peccato contro il Signore; il loro sangue sarà sparso come mota, la loro carne come concime.
18 nor wil their silver or gold be able to save them. On the Day of Yahweh's anger, by the fire of hisjealousy, the whole earth will be consumed. For he will destroy, yes, annihilate everyone living on earth.	18 Nè il loro argento, nè il loro oro potrà liberarli nel giorno dell'ira del Signore: dal fuoco del suo zelo sarà divorata tutta la terra, egli sterminerà in un momento tutti gli abitatori della terra.
