Zephaniah 1

1 The word of Yahweh which was addressed to Zephaniah son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son ofAmariah, son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah.	1 Parola del Signore rivelata a Sofonia figliuolo di Chusi, figliuolo di Godolia, figliuolo di Amaria, figliuolo di Ezechia a' tempi di Giosia figliuolo di Amon, re di Giuda.
2 I shall sweep away everything off the face of the earth, declares Yahweh.	2 Io sgombrerò di ogni cosa la terra, dice il Signore.
3 I shall sweep away humans and animals, the birds of the air and the fish of the sea, I shal topple thewicked and wipe al people off the face of the earth -declares Yahweh.	3 Ne sgombrerò gli uomini, e i bestiami; ne sgombrerò gli uccelli dell'aria, e i pesci del mare, e andranno in rovina gli empj,e dispergerò dalla faccia della terra gli uomini, dice il Signore.
4 I shall raise my hand against Judah and against al who live in Jerusalem, and from this place I wil wipeout Baal's remnant, the very name of his priests,	4 E stenderò la mia mano sopra Giuda, e sopra tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, e sperderò da questo luogo gli avanzi di Baal e i nomi de' portinaj, e de' sacerdoti.
5 and those who prostrate themselves on the roofs before the array of heaven, and those who prostratethemselves before Yahweh but swear by Milcom,	5 E quelli, che adorano sui solai la milizia del cielo, e quelli, che adorano, e giurano pel Signore, e giurano per Melchom.
6 and those who have turned their back on Yahweh, who do not seek Yahweh and do not consult him.	6 E que', che hanno lasciato di andar dietro al Signore, e que', che non cercano il Signore, e non vanno in traccia di lui.
7 Silence before Lord Yahweh, for the Day of Yahweh is near! Yahweh has prepared a sacrifice, he hasconsecrated his guests.	7 State in silenzio dinanzi al Signore Dio, perchè il giorno del Signore è vicino, il Signore ha preparata la vittima, ha preparati i suoi convitati.
8 On the Day of Yahweh's sacrifice, I shal punish the courtiers, the royal princes and al who dress inoutlandish clothes.	8 E in quel giorno della vittima del Signore io visiterò i principi, e i figliuoli del re, e tutti quelli, che sono vestiti di abito straniero.
9 On that day I shal punish al who go up the Step and fil the Temple of their lords, with violence anddeceit.	9 E visiterò in quel giorno tutti quelli,che entrano con fasto nel liminare, e la casa del Signore Dio loro riempiono d'ingiustizia, e di fraude.
10 On that Day -- declares Yahweh -- uproar wil be heard from the Fish Gate, wailing from the NewQuarter and a great crash from the hil s.	10 In quel giorno, dice il Signore, saranno voci, e strida dalla porta dei pesci, e urla dalla seconda, e grande afflizione sulle colline.
11 Wail, you who live in the Hollow, for it is al over with the merchants, all the money-bags have beenwiped out!	11 Gettate urli, o abitatori di Pila; tutto il popolo di Chanaan è ammutolito; sono periti tutti que', che erano rinvolti nell argento.
12 When that time comes I shal search Jerusalem by lamplight and punish the men stagnating over theremains of their wine, who say in their hearts, 'Yahweh can do nothing, either good or bad.'	12 Sarà allora, che io anderò ricercando Gerusalemme colla lucerna alla mano, e anderò a cercare gli uomini fitti nelle loro immondezze, i quali di cono in cuor loro: il Signore non farà del bene, e non farà del male.
13 For this, their wealth wil be looted and their houses laid in ruins; they wil build houses but not live inthem, they wil plant vineyards but not drink their wine.	13 E le loro sostanze saranno saccheggiate, e le loro case un deserto; e faran dei palazzi, ma non gli abiteranno; e pianteranno vigne, e non ne beranno il vino.
14 The great Day of Yahweh is near, near, and coming with great speed. How bitter the sound of the Dayof Yahweh, the Day when the warrior shouts his cry of war.	14 E vicino il giorno grande del Signore, egli è vicino, e si avanza con grande celerità; amaro è il suono del dì del Signore; allora i potenti saranno in affanni.
15 That Day is a day of retribution, a day of distress and tribulation, a day of ruin and of devastation, aday of darkness and gloom, a day of cloud and thick fog,	15 Giorno d'ira egli è quello, giorno di tribolazione, e di angustia, giorno di calamità, e di miseria, giorno di tenebre, di caligine, giorno di nebbia, e di bufera,
16 a day of trumpet blast and battle cry against fortified town and high corner-tower.	16 Giorno della tromba strepitante contro le città forti, e contro le eccelse e torri.
17 I shal bring such distress on humanity that they will grope their way like the blind for having sinnedagainst Yahweh. Their blood wil be poured out like mud, yes, their corpses like dung;	17 Io tribolerò gli uomini, e cammineranno come ciechi, perchè han peccato contro il Signore, e il loro sangue si spargerà come polvere, e i loro corpi saran gettati come sozzura.
18 nor wil their silver or gold be able to save them. On the Day of Yahweh's anger, by the fire of hisjealousy, the whole earth will be consumed. For he will destroy, yes, annihilate everyone living on earth.	18 Ma né il loro argento, né l'oro non potrà liberarli nel di dell'ira del Signore; dal fuoco dello zelo di lui sarà divorata tutta la terra, perchè egli farà prontamente sterminio di tutti quelli, che l'abitano.
