Amos 3

NEW JERUSALEM	MODERN HEBREW BIBLE
1 Listen, Israelites, to this prophecy which Yahweh pronounces against you, against the whole familywhich I brought up from Egypt:	1 שמעו את הדבר הזה אשר דבר יהוה עליכם בני ישראל על כל המשפחה אשר העליתי מארץ מצרים לאמר
2 You alone have I intimately known of all the families of earth, that is why I shal punish you for al yourwrong-doings.	2 רק אתכם ידעתי מכל משפחות האדמה על כן אפקד עליכם את כל עונתיכם
3 Do two people travel together unless they have agreed to do so?	3 הילכו שנים יחדו בלתי אם נועדו
4 Does the lion roar in the forest if it has no prey? Does the young lion growl in his lair if it has caughtnothing?	4 הישאג אריה ביער וטרף אין לו היתן כפיר קולו ממענתו בלתי אם לכד
5 Does a bird fall on the ground in a net unless a trap has been set for it? Will the net spring up from theground without catching something?	5 התפל צפור על פח הארץ ומוקש אין לה היעלה פח מן האדמה ולכוד לא ילכוד
6 Does the trumpet sound in the city without the people being alarmed? Does misfortune come to a city ifYahweh has not caused it?	6 אם יתקע שופר בעיר ועם לא יחרדו אם תהיה רעה בעיר ויהוה לא עשה
7 No indeed, Lord Yahweh does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets.	7 כי לא יעשה אדני יהוה דבר כי אם גלה סודו אל עבדיו הנביאים
8 The lion roars: who is not afraid? Lord Yahweh has spoken: who will not prophesy?	8 אריה שאג מי לא יירא אדני יהוה דבר מי לא ינבא
9 From the palace roofs of Assyria and from the palace roofs of Egypt, proclaim aloud, 'Assemble on thehil s of Samaria and observe the grave disorders inside her and the acts of oppression there!'	9 השמיעו על ארמנות באשדוד ועל ארמנות בארץ מצרים ואמרו האספו על הרי שמרון וראו מהומת רבות בתוכה ועשוקים בקרבה
10 Little they know of right conduct -declares Yahweh- who cram their palaces with violence andextortion.	10 ולא ידעו עשות נכחה נאם יהוה האוצרים חמס ושד בארמנותיהם
11 This is why -- Lord Yahweh says this- an enemy will soon besiege the land, he wil bring down yourstrength and your palaces wil be looted.	11 לכן כה אמר אדני יהוה צר וסביב הארץ והורד ממך עזך ונבזו ארמנותיך
12 Yahweh says this: As the shepherd rescues two legs or the tip of an ear from the lion's mouth, so wilthe children of Israel be salvaged who now lol in Samaria in the corners of their beds, on their divans ofDamascus.	12 כה אמר יהוה כאשר יציל הרעה מפי הארי שתי כרעים או בדל אזן כן ינצלו בני ישראל הישבים בשמרון בפאת מטה ובדמשק ערש
13 Listen and testify against the House of Jacob -declares the Lord Yahweh, God Sabaoth-	13 שמעו והעידו בבית יעקב נאם אדני יהוה אלהי הצבאות
14 the day when I punish Israel for his crimes I shal also punish the altars of Bethel; the horns of thealtar wil be hacked off and wil fal to the ground.	14 כי ביום פקדי פשעי ישראל עליו ופקדתי על מזבחות בית אל ונגדעו קרנות המזבח ונפלו לארץ
15 I shall blast winter house with summer house, ivory houses wil be destroyed and many mansionscease to be -declares Yahweh.	15 והכיתי בית החרף על בית הקיץ ואבדו בתי השן וספו בתים רבים נאם יהוה
