Amos 3

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 Listen, Israelites, to this prophecy which Yahweh pronounces against you, against the whole familywhich I brought up from Egypt:	1 Audite verbum hoc, quod locutus est Dominus super vos, filii Israel,super omnem cognationem, quam eduxi de terra Aegypti, dicens:
2 You alone have I intimately known of all the families of earth, that is why I shal punish you for al yourwrong-doings.	2 “ Tantummodovos cognovi ex omnibus cognationibus terrae; idcirco visitabo super vos omnes iniquitates vestras.
3 Do two people travel together unless they have agreed to do so?	3 Numquid ambulabunt duo pariter, nisi convenerint?
4 Does the lion roar in the forest if it has no prey? Does the young lion growl in his lair if it has caughtnothing?	4 Numquid rugiet leo in saltu, nisi habuerit praedam? Numquid dabit catulus leonis vocem de cubili suo, nisi aliquid apprehenderit?
5 Does a bird fall on the ground in a net unless a trap has been set for it? Will the net spring up from theground without catching something?	5 Numquid cadet avis super terram absque laqueo? Numquid laxatur laqueus de terra, antequam quid ceperit?
6 Does the trumpet sound in the city without the people being alarmed? Does misfortune come to a city ifYahweh has not caused it?	6 Si clanget tuba in civitate, populus non expavescet? Si erit malum in civitate, nonne Dominus fecit?
7 No indeed, Lord Yahweh does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets.	7 Nihil enim faciet Dominus Deus, nisi revelaverit secretum suum ad servos suos prophetas.
8 The lion roars: who is not afraid? Lord Yahweh has spoken: who will not prophesy?	8 Leo rugit, quis non timebit? Dominus Deus locutus est, quis non prophetabit?
9 From the palace roofs of Assyria and from the palace roofs of Egypt, proclaim aloud, 'Assemble on thehil s of Samaria and observe the grave disorders inside her and the acts of oppression there!'	9 Auditum facite in aedibus Assyriae et in aedibus terrae Aegypti et dicite: “Congregamini super montes Samariae”; et videte insanias multas in medio eius et oppressos in sinu eius.
10 Little they know of right conduct -declares Yahweh- who cram their palaces with violence andextortion.	10 Et nescierunt facere rectum, dicit Dominus, thesaurizantes violentiam et rapinas in aedibus suis ”.
11 This is why -- Lord Yahweh says this- an enemy will soon besiege the land, he wil bring down yourstrength and your palaces wil be looted.	11 Propterea haec dicit Dominus Deus: “ Inimicus circumdabit terram, et detrahetur ex te fortitudo tua, et diripientur aedes tuae ”.
12 Yahweh says this: As the shepherd rescues two legs or the tip of an ear from the lion's mouth, so wilthe children of Israel be salvaged who now lol in Samaria in the corners of their beds, on their divans ofDamascus.	12 Haec dicit Dominus: “ Quomodo si eruat pastor de ore leonis duo crura aut extremum auriculae, sic eruentur filii Israel, qui habitant in Samaria, in margine lectuli et in Damasci grabato.
13 Listen and testify against the House of Jacob -declares the Lord Yahweh, God Sabaoth-	13 Audite et contestamini in domo Iacob, dicit Dominus, Deus exercituum:
14 the day when I punish Israel for his crimes I shal also punish the altars of Bethel; the horns of thealtar wil be hacked off and wil fal to the ground.	14 In die cum visitavero praevaricationes Israel, super eum visitabo et super altaria Bethel, et amputabuntur cornua altaris et cadent in terram;
15 I shall blast winter house with summer house, ivory houses wil be destroyed and many mansionscease to be -declares Yahweh.	15 et percutiam domum hiemalem cum domo aestiva, et peribunt domus eburneae, et dissipabuntur aedes magnae ”, dicit Dominus.
