Jeremiah 36

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 In the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh,	1 Cette parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Jérémie en la quatrième année de Joïaqim fils de Josias, roi de Juda:
2 'Take a scroll and on it write al the words I have spoken to you about Israel, Judah and al the nations,from the day I first spoke to you, in the time of Josiah, until today.	2 Prends un rouleau et écris dessus toutes les paroles que je t’ai adressées au sujet de Jérusalem et de Juda, et des autres nations, depuis le jour où j’ai commencé à te parler au temps de Josias jusqu’à ce jour.
3 Perhaps when the House of Judah hears about al the disaster I intend to inflict on them, they will turn,each one of them, from their evil behaviour, so that I can forgive their sinful guilt.'	3 Peut-être les gens de Juda prendront-ils au sérieux tout le mal que j’ai décidé de leur faire, et chacun renoncera à sa mauvaise conduite. En ce cas, je leur pardonnerai toutes leurs fautes et leurs péchés.
4 Jeremiah then summoned Baruch son of Neriah, who at his dictation wrote down on the scrol all thewords Yahweh had spoken to him.	4 Jérémie fit donc venir Baruch fils de Nériya. Jérémie dictait, et Baruch écrivait sur un rouleau toutes les paroles de Yahvé qui lui étaient dictées.
5 Jeremiah then gave Baruch this order, 'As I am prevented from entering the Temple of Yahweh,	5 Puis Jérémie donna cet ordre à Baruch: “On ne me permet pas d’entrer dans la Maison de Yahvé. Aussi tu iras avec le rouleau que tu as écrit sous ma dictée.
6 you yourself must go and, from the scrol you wrote at my dictation, read all Yahweh's words to thepeople in his Temple on the day of the fast, and in this way you can read them in the hearing also of all theJudaeans who come in from their towns.	6 Au prochain jour de jeûne, tu liras toutes ces paroles de Yahvé devant le peuple, dans la Maison de Yahvé. De cette façon tous les Judéens qui viennent de leurs villes l’entendront aussi.
7 Perhaps their prayers wil move Yahweh and they wil turn one and al from their evil behaviour, forgreat is the furious anger with which Yahweh has threatened this people.'	7 Peut-être leur prière montera-t-elle devant Yahvé de sorte que chacun renonce à sa mauvaise conduite, car grande est la colère, et grand le châtiment dont Yahvé a menacés ce peuple.”
8 Baruch son of Neriah duly carried out the order that the prophet Jeremiah had given him, to read alYahweh's words from the book in his Temple.	8 Baruch fils de Nériya fit donc tout ce que lui avait dit le prophète Jérémie: lire ce livre et ces paroles de Yahvé dans le Temple
9 Now, in the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, al the people ofJerusalem and all the people who could get to Jerusalem from the towns of Judah were summoned to a fastbefore Yahweh.	9 Le neuvième mois de la cinquième année de Joïaqim fils de Josias, roi de Juda, on décréta un jeûne en présence de Yahvé et l’on convoqua tout le peuple de Jérusalem ainsi que tous ceux qui pouvaient venir des villes de Juda à Jérusalem.
10 Baruch then read Jeremiah's words from the book; this happened in the room of Gemariah son of thescribe Shaphan, in the upper court at the entry of the New Gate of the Temple of Yahweh, where all the peoplecould hear.	10 C’est alors que Baruch fit devant tout le peuple la lecture publique des paroles de Jérémie qui étaient dans le livre. C’était dans la Maison de Yahvé, dans la salle de Guémaryas, fils du scribe Chafan, dans la cour supérieure, à l’entrée de la porte-neuve de la Maison de Yahvé.
11 Micaiah son of Gemariah, son of Shaphan, having heard all Yahweh's words read from the book,	11 Mikayas, fils de Guémaryas fils de Chafan, entendait toutes les paroles de Yahvé écrites sur le livre.
12 went down to the royal palace, to the scribe's room. Al the chief men were in session: the scribeElishama, Delaiah son of Shemaiah, Elnathan son of Achbor, Gemariah son of Shaphan, Zedekiah son ofHananiah and al the other chief men;	12 Il descendit donc au palais royal, dans la salle du scribe. Tous les chefs étaient là: le scribe Élichama, Délayas fils de Chémayas, Elnathan fils d’Akbor, Guémaryas fils de Chafan, Sidkiyas fils de Hananyas et tous les autres chefs.
13 and to them Micaiah reported al the words he heard as Baruch was reading the book aloud to thepeople.	13 Mikayas leur rapporta toutes les paroles qu’il avait entendues lorsque Baruch les lisait devant le peuple.
14 The chief men then by common consent sent Jehudi son of Netaniah to Baruch, with Shelemiah sonof Cushi, to say, 'Come, and bring the scrol with you which you have been reading to the people.'	14 Alors tous les chefs envoyèrent Yéhoudi, fils de Nétanya et Chélémyas fils de Kouchi, pour qu’ils disent à Baruch: “Prends avec toi le rouleau dans lequel tu as lu devant le peuple et viens.” Baruch fils de Nériya prit le rouleau et partit avec eux.
15 Bringing the scrol with him, Baruch son of Neriah appeared before them. 'Sit down,' they said, 'andread it out.' So Baruch read it to them.	15 Ils lui dirent: “Assieds-toi, tu vas nous le lire.” Et Baruch en fit la lecture devant eux.
16 Having heard al the words they turned to one another in alarm and said to Baruch, 'We must certainlyinform the king of this.'	16 À mesure qu’ils entendaient toutes ces paroles, ils se regardaient l’un l’autre effrayés. Ils dirent à Baruch: “Il faut absolument que nous en parlions au roi.”
17 They then questioned Baruch, 'Tel us', they said, 'how you came to write al these words.'	17 Puis ils interrogèrent Baruch: “Dis-nous donc comment tu as écrit tout cela?”
18 'Jeremiah dictated them al to me,' Baruch replied, 'and I wrote them down in ink in this book.'	18 Baruch leur répondit: “Pendant qu’il prononçait toutes ces paroles, moi, je les écrivais sur ce livre avec de l’encre.”
19 The chief men said to Baruch, 'You and Jeremiah had better go into hiding; and do not tel anyonewhere you are.'	19 Les chefs dirent à Baruch: “Va te cacher avec Jérémie, et que personne ne sache où vous êtes.”
20 Whereupon they went off to the king in the palace court, depositing the scrol in the room of the scribeElishama. They then informed the king of the whole affair.	20 Après quoi ils déposèrent le rouleau dans la salle du scribe Élichama et allèrent trouver le roi dans la cour. Ils mirent le roi au courant de cette affaire.
21 The king sent Jehudi for the scrol , and he brought it from the room of the scribe Elishama and read itto the king and all the chief men standing round the king.	21 Alors le roi envoya Yéhoudi prendre le rouleau. Yéhoudi le ramassa dans la salle du scribe Élichama et il en fit la lecture devant le roi et devant tous les chefs qui se tenaient debout autour de lui.
22 The king was sitting in his winter apartments -- it was the ninth month -- with a fire burning in a brazierin front of him.	22 Le roi était assis dans le palais d’hiver, car on était au neuvième mois, et l’on avait allumé un réchaud devant lui.
23 Each time Jehudi had read three or four columns, the king cut them off with a scribe's knife and threwthem into the fire in the brazier until the whole of the scrol had been burnt in the brazier fire.	23 Lorsque Yéhoudi avait lu trois ou quatre colonnes, le roi les déchirait avec le rasoir du scribe et les jetait dans le feu du réchaud; tout le rouleau termina ainsi dans le feu du réchaud.
24 But in spite of hearing al these words, neither the king nor any of his courtiers took alarm or tore theirclothes;	24 Ni le roi, ni ses officiers ne se troublèrent en entendant toutes ces paroles; aucun d’eux ne déchira ses vêtements.
25 and although Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had urged the king not to burn the scrol he wouldnot listen to them,	25 Pourtant Elnathan, Délayas et Guémaryas avaient insisté auprès du roi pour qu’il ne brûle pas le rouleau, mais il ne voulut pas les écouter.
26 but ordered the king's son Jerahmeel and Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel toarrest the scribe Baruch and the prophet Jeremiah. But Yahweh had hidden them.	26 Il ordonna même à Yérahméel fils du roi, à Séraya fils d’Azriel, et à Chélémyas fils d’Abdéel, d’arrêter le scribe Baruch et le prophète Jérémie; mais Yahvé les avait cachés.
27 Then the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, after the king had burnt the scrol containing the wordsBaruch had written at Jeremiah's dictation,	27 Une parole de Yahvé fut alors adressée à Jérémie à propos de ce rouleau que le roi avait brûlé, où étaient toutes les paroles écrites par Baruch sous la dictée de Jérémie:
28 'Take another scroll and write down all the words that were written on the first scrol burnt byJehoiakim king of Judah.	28 “Retourne acheter un autre rouleau; et tu écriras dessus toutes les paroles qui étaient sur le précédent rouleau, celui que Joïaqim, roi de Juda, a brûlé.
29 And as regards Jehoiakim king of Judah, you are to say, "Yahweh says this: You have burnt thatscrol , saying: Why have you written down: The king of Babylon will certainly come and lay this country wasteand leave it without human or animal?	29 “Tu diras ceci à Joïaqim de la part de Yahvé: Tu as brûlé ce rouleau et tu as dit: Comment as-tu pu écrire: ‘C’est décidé, le roi de Babylone viendra et détruira ce pays; il en fera disparaître hommes et bêtes’?
30 So, this is what Yahweh says about Jehoiakim king of Judah: He wil have no one to occupy thethrone of David, and his corpse wil be tossed out to the heat of the day and the frost of the night.	30 Eh bien, voici une parole de Yahvé au sujet de Joïaqim, roi de Juda: Aucun de sa famille ne s’assiéra sur le trône de David. Son cadavre sera exposé à la chaleur du jour et au froid de la nuit.
31 I shal punish him, his offspring and his courtiers for their guilt; on them, on the citizens of Jerusalemand on the people of Judah I shal bring the total disaster which I had decreed for them but to which they havepaid no attention."	31 Je punirai ses fautes et celles de sa famille et de ses serviteurs, je ferai venir sur eux, sur les habitants de Jérusalem et sur les hommes de Juda tout le mal que je leur ai annoncé et qu’ils n’ont pas voulu entendre.”
32 Jeremiah then took another scrol and gave it to the scribe Baruch son of Neriah, who in it atJeremiah's dictation wrote all the words of the book that Jehoiakim king of Judah had burnt, with many similarwords in addition.	32 Alors Jérémie prit un autre rouleau et le donna à Baruch fils de Nériya, le scribe. Celui-ci écrivit sous la dictée de Jérémie toutes les paroles du livre que Joïaqim, roi de Juda, avait brûlé; il en ajouta d’autres du même style.
