Isaiah 42

NEW JERUSALEM	Sacra Bibbia Garofalo
1 Here is my servant whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom my soul delights. I have sent my spiritupon him, he will bring fair judgement to the nations.	1 Ecco il mio servitore, che io sostengo, il mio eletto, di cui gioisce la mia anima. Ho posto il mio spirito su di lui; egli proclamerà il diritto alle nazioni.
2 He does not cry out or raise his voice, his voice is not heard in the street;	2 Non griderà né farà chiasso, non farà udire in piazza la voce;
3 he does not break the crushed reed or snuff the faltering wick. Faithful y he presents fair judgement;	3 non spezzerà una canna incrinata, non spegnerà uno stoppino dall’esile fiamma. Con fermezza proclamerà il diritto;
4 he wil not grow faint, he wil not be crushed until he has established fair judgement on earth, and thecoasts and islands are waiting for his instruction.	4 non verrà meno né si abbatterà, finché non avrà stabilito il diritto sulla terra. Le isole anelano la sua dottrina.
5 Thus says God, Yahweh, who created the heavens and spread them out, who hammered into shapethe earth and what comes from it, who gave breath to the people on it, and spirit to those who walk on it:	5 Così dice Jahvè Dio che crea e spiega il cielo, distende la terra con i suoi germogli, dà il respiro alla gente che la abita e alito a quanti camminano in essa:
6 I, Yahweh, have called you in saving justice, I have grasped you by the hand and shaped you; I havemade you a covenant of the people and light to the nations,	6 «Io, Jahvè, ti ho chiamato nella giustizia e ti ho preso per mano; ti ho formato e stabilito alleanza del popolo, luce per le nazioni,
7 to open the eyes of the blind, to free captives from prison, and those who live in darkness from thedungeon.	7 perché tu apra gli occhi ai ciechi e liberi dal carcere i detenuti, dalla prigione coloro che abitano nelle tenebre.
8 I am Yahweh, that is my name! I shal not yield my glory to another, nor my honour to idols.	8 Io sono Jahvè: questo è il mio nome; non darò ad altri la mia gloria né il mio onore agli idoli.
9 See how the former predictions have come true. Fresh things I now reveal; before they appear I tel youof them.	9 I fatti antichi, ecco, sono avvenuti, i futuri io li preannuncio; prima che spuntino, ve li faccio conoscere».
10 Sing a new song to Yahweh! Let his praise be sung from remotest parts of the earth by those who sailthe sea and by everything in it, by the coasts and islands and those who inhabit them.	10 Cantate a Jahvè un cantico nuovo, lode a lui fino all’estremità della terra; inneggi il mare con quanto è in esso, le isole con i loro abitanti.
11 Let the desert and its cities raise their voices, the encampments where Kedar lives. Let the inhabitantsof the Rock cry aloud for joy and shout from the mountain tops.	11 Esulti il deserto con le sue città; esultino i villaggi dove abita Kedar; giubilino gli abitanti di Sela, dalla cima dei monti tripudino.
12 Let them give glory to Yahweh and, in the coasts and islands, let them voice his praise.	12 Diano gloria a Jahvè e proclamino il suo onore al lidi.
13 Yahweh advances like a hero, like a warrior he rouses his fire. He shouts, he raises the war cry, heshows his might against his foes.	13 Jahvè avanza come un prode, come un uomo di guerra eccita ardore; grida, lancia un urlo di guerra, trionfa sui nemici.
14 'From long ago I have been silent, I have kept quiet, held myself in check, groaning like a woman inlabour, panting and gasping for air.	14 Ho taciuto da lungo tempo, sono stato tranquillo, mi sono contenuto; ora urlerò come una partoriente, sospirerò e sbufferò insieme.
15 I shal ravage mountain and hil , shal wither al their vegetation; I shal turn the torrents into firmground and dry up the marshes.	15 Renderò aridi monti e colli, farò seccare tutta la loro vegetazione; trasformerò i fiumi in steppe, i laghi farò inaridire.
16 I shal lead the blind by a road they do not know, by paths they do not know I shal conduct them. Ishall turn the darkness into light before them and the quagmires into solid ground. This I shal do -- without fail.'	16 Farò camminare i ciechi per vie che non conoscono, li condurrò per sentieri sconosciuti; trasformerò per loro le tenebre in luce, le asperità in pianura. Tali cose io faccio per loro e non li abbandono.
17 Those who trust in idols will recoil, they will blush for shame, who say to metal images, 'You are ourgods.'	17 Si voltano indietro pieni di vergogna quanti sperano in’ un idolo, quanti dicono alle statue: «Voi siete i nostri dèi!»
18 Listen, you deaf! Look and see, you blind!	18 Sordi, udite; ciechi, fissate lo sguardo per vedere.
19 Who so blind as my servant, so deaf as the messenger I send? (Who so blind as the friend I havetaken to myself, so deaf as Yahweh's servant?)	19 Chi è cieco se non il mio servitore? Chi è sordo come colui al quale io mandavo araldi? Chi è cieco come il perfetto? Chi è sordo come il servitore di Jahvè?
20 You have seen many things but not observed them; your ears are open but you do not hear.	20 Si vedono molte cose, ma tu non ci badi; si aprono le orecchie, ma senza sentire.
21 Yahweh wished, because of his saving justice, to make the Law great and glorious.	21 Jahvè si compiacque, per la sua. giustizia, di mostrare grande e gloriosa la legge.
22 Yet here is a people pil aged and plundered, all of them shut up in caves, imprisoned in dungeons.They have been pil aged, with no one to rescue them, plundered, with no one to say, 'Give it back!'	22 Eppure questo è un popolo depredato e spogliato; tutti sono trattenuti in caverne, rinchiusi nelle prigioni. Essi furono abbandonati alla preda senza un liberatore; ci fu la spogliazione senza che alcuno dicesse: «Restituisci!»
23 Which of you wil listen to this, who pay attention and listen in future?	23 Chi fra di voi bada a ciò, vi presta attenzione e ascolta per il futuro?
24 Who surrendered Jacob to the plunderer and Israel to the pil agers? Was it not Yahweh, againstwhom we had sinned, in whose ways they would not walk and whose Law they would not obey?	24 Chi consegnò Giacobbe al saccheggio, Israele ai predoni? Non è stato forse Jahvè contro cui peccarono, per le cui vie non vollero camminare, la cui legge non osservarono?
25 On him he poured out his blazing anger and the fury of war; it enveloped him in flames and yet he didnot understand; it burned him up, but he did not learn a lesson.	25 Egli, perciò, ha riversato su Israele la sua ira ardente e l’orrore della guerra. Questa ha divampato intorno a lui senza che egli se ne accorgesse, lo ha consunto ed egli non se ne curò.
