Isaiah 42

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Here is my servant whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom my soul delights. I have sent my spiritupon him, he will bring fair judgement to the nations.	1 Ecco il mio servo, che io sostengo, il mio eletto, nel quale l'anima mia si compiace. Ho posto il mio spirito sopra di lui; egli proclamerà il diritto alle nazioni.
2 He does not cry out or raise his voice, his voice is not heard in the street;	2 Non griderà, non alzerà il tono, non farà udire la sua voce in piazza.
3 he does not break the crushed reed or snuff the faltering wick. Faithful y he presents fair judgement;	3 Non spezzerà la canna rotta e non spegnerà il lumignolo fumigante; fedelmente proclamerà il diritto.
4 he wil not grow faint, he wil not be crushed until he has established fair judgement on earth, and thecoasts and islands are waiting for his instruction.	4 Non verrà meno e non si accascerà, finché non avrà stabilito sulla terra il diritto, poiché le isole anelano al suo insegnamento.
5 Thus says God, Yahweh, who created the heavens and spread them out, who hammered into shapethe earth and what comes from it, who gave breath to the people on it, and spirit to those who walk on it:	5 Così parla il Signore Dio, che ha creato e disteso i cieli, che ha rafforzato la terra e i suoi germogli, che ha conferito il respiro al popolo che l'abita, e il soffio a quelli che in essa camminano.
6 I, Yahweh, have called you in saving justice, I have grasped you by the hand and shaped you; I havemade you a covenant of the people and light to the nations,	6 Io, il Signore, ti ho chiamato nella giustizia e ti ho afferrato per mano, ti ho formato e ti ho stabilito alleanza di popolo e luce delle nazioni,
7 to open the eyes of the blind, to free captives from prison, and those who live in darkness from thedungeon.	7 per aprire gli occhi dei ciechi, far uscire dal carcere i prigionieri e dalla prigione gli abitatori delle tenebre.
8 I am Yahweh, that is my name! I shal not yield my glory to another, nor my honour to idols.	8 Io sono il Signore, questo è il mio nome; non cederò ad altri la mia gloria, né il mio onore agli idoli.
9 See how the former predictions have come true. Fresh things I now reveal; before they appear I tel youof them.	9 I fatti antichi, ecco si sono avverati e i nuovi li preannuncio; prima che si producano io li faccio conoscere.
10 Sing a new song to Yahweh! Let his praise be sung from remotest parts of the earth by those who sailthe sea and by everything in it, by the coasts and islands and those who inhabit them.	10 Cantate al Signore un cantico nuovo, la sua lode dai confini della terra; lo celebri il mare e ciò che lo riempie, le isole e i loro abitatori.
11 Let the desert and its cities raise their voices, the encampments where Kedar lives. Let the inhabitantsof the Rock cry aloud for joy and shout from the mountain tops.	11 Esulti il deserto con le sue città e i villaggi in cui abitano quelli di Kedàr! Giubilino gli abitanti di Sela, dalla cima dei monti inneggino!
12 Let them give glory to Yahweh and, in the coasts and islands, let them voice his praise.	12 Rendano gloria al Signore e annuncino la sua lode sulle isole!
13 Yahweh advances like a hero, like a warrior he rouses his fire. He shouts, he raises the war cry, heshows his might against his foes.	13 Il Signore avanza come un eroe, eccita l'ardore come un guerriero, lancia il grido di guerra, urla, riporta vittoria sui suoi nemici.
14 'From long ago I have been silent, I have kept quiet, held myself in check, groaning like a woman inlabour, panting and gasping for air.	14 "Ho conservato il silenzio per lungo tempo, ho taciuto, mi sono contenuto...; ora gemo come una partoriente, sospiro e sbuffo insieme.
15 I shal ravage mountain and hil , shal wither al their vegetation; I shal turn the torrents into firmground and dry up the marshes.	15 Devasterò i monti e le valli e inaridirò tutta la loro vegetazione. Cambierò i fiumi in isole e asciugherò le lagune.
16 I shal lead the blind by a road they do not know, by paths they do not know I shal conduct them. Ishall turn the darkness into light before them and the quagmires into solid ground. This I shal do -- without fail.'	16 Farò camminare i ciechi per sentieri che non conoscono, li dirigerò per strade sconosciute. Cambierò davanti a loro le tenebre in luce e le vie tortuose in diritte. Queste cose le compirò per loro e non li abbandonerò".
17 Those who trust in idols will recoil, they will blush for shame, who say to metal images, 'You are ourgods.'	17 Retrocedono, coperti di vergogna, quelli che pongono fiducia negli idoli, dicendo ai simulacri: "Voi siete i nostri dèi".
18 Listen, you deaf! Look and see, you blind!	18 Sordi, udite, ciechi, guardate e vedete!
19 Who so blind as my servant, so deaf as the messenger I send? (Who so blind as the friend I havetaken to myself, so deaf as Yahweh's servant?)	19 Chi è cieco, se non il mio servo? E sordo come il messaggero che ho inviato? Chi è cieco come colui che è perfetto, e sordo come il servo del Signore?
20 You have seen many things but not observed them; your ears are open but you do not hear.	20 Hai visto molte cose senza prestare attenzione; hai le orecchie aperte, senza intendere.
21 Yahweh wished, because of his saving justice, to make the Law great and glorious.	21 Il Signore voleva, nella sua giustizia, esaltare e glorificare la legge,
22 Yet here is a people pil aged and plundered, all of them shut up in caves, imprisoned in dungeons.They have been pil aged, with no one to rescue them, plundered, with no one to say, 'Give it back!'	22 ma esso è un popolo spogliato e depredato! Tutti sono trattenuti in caverne, nascosti nelle prigioni. Sono stati depredati e nessuno li libera; spogliàti, e nessuno dice: "Restituisci!".
23 Which of you wil listen to this, who pay attention and listen in future?	23 Chi tra voi ha udito ciò, presta attenzione e ascolta per l'avvenire?
24 Who surrendered Jacob to the plunderer and Israel to the pil agers? Was it not Yahweh, againstwhom we had sinned, in whose ways they would not walk and whose Law they would not obey?	24 Chi consegnò Giacobbe al saccheggio e Israele ai predoni? Non è forse il Signore, contro il quale abbiamo peccato? Non si volle camminare nelle sue vie e non si osservò la sua legge.
25 On him he poured out his blazing anger and the fury of war; it enveloped him in flames and yet he didnot understand; it burned him up, but he did not learn a lesson.	25 Allora egli riversò su di lui l'ardore della sua ira, e la violenza della guerra: questa divampò intorno a lui senza che egli se ne accorgesse, lo consumò senza che vi facesse attenzione.
