Sirach 36

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Take pity on us, Master, Lord of the universe, look at us, spread fear of yourself throughout al othernations.	1 Abbi pietà di noi, o Dio dell'universo, e guardaci, e mostraci la luce delle tue misericordie.
2 Raise your hand against the foreign nations and let them see your might.	2 Spandi il tuo terrore sopra le genti che non ti han cercato, affinchè sappiano che non v'è altro Dio fuori di te e raccontino le tue maraviglie.
3 As, in their sight, you have proved yourself holy to us, so now, in our sight, prove yourself great to them.	3 Alza la tua mano contro le nazioni straniere, affinchè veggano la tua potenza.
4 Let them acknowledge you, just as we have acknowledged that there is no God but you, Lord.	4 Come davanti a loro hai mostrato in noi la tua santità, così davanti a noi mostra sopra di loro la tua grandezza.
5 Send new portents, do fresh wonders, win glory for your hand and your right arm.	5 Affinché riconoscano, come l'abbiamo riconosciuto noi, che non v'è altro Dio fuori di te, o Signore.
6 Rouse your fury, pour out your rage, destroy the opponent, annihilate the enemy.	6 Rinnova i miracoli, fai delle altre maraviglie,
7 Hasten the day, remember the oath, and let people tell of your mighty deeds.	7 glorifica la tua mano, il tuo braccio destro.
8 Let fiery wrath swal ow up the survivor, and destruction overtake those who oppress your people.	8 Eccita il furore, effondi l'ira,
9 Crush the heads of hostile rulers who say, 'There is no one else but us!'	9 distruggi l'avversario, annienta il nemico.
10 Gather together all the tribes of Jacob, restore them their heritage as at the beginning.	10 Accelera il tempo, ricordati della fine, perchè sian celebrate le tue maraviglie.
11 Take pity, Lord, on the people cal ed by your name, on Israel whom you have made your first-born.	11 Gli scampati sian divorati dalla fiamma dell'ira, e quelli che maltrattano il tuo popolo trovino la perdizione.
12 Have compassion on your holy city, on Jerusalem, the place where you rest.	12 Schiaccia la testa dei principi nemici, che dicono: « Non ci siamo che noi! ».
13 Fil Zion with your praises and your sanctuary with your glory.	13 Raduna tutte le tribù di Giacobbe, affinchè riconoscano che non c'è altro Dio fuori di te e raccontino le tue maraviglie, e sian tua eredità come da principio.
14 Vindicate those whom you created first, fulfil what has been prophesied in your name.	14 Abbi pietà del tuo popolo, sopra il quale è invocato il tuo nome, e d'Israele, che tu hai trattato come tuo primogenito.
15 Give those who wait for you their reward, let your prophets be proved true.	15 Abbi pietà della, città da te santificata, di Gerusalemme, città del tuo riposo.
16 Grant, Lord, the prayer of your servants, in the terms of Aaron's blessing on your people,	16 Riempi Sionne delle tue ineffabili parole, e il tuo popolo della tua gloria.
17 so that al the earth's inhabitants may acknowledge that you are the Lord, the everlasting God.	17 Rendi testimonianza a coloro che sono fin da principio tue creature, e fa rivivere le predizioni annunziate in nome tuo dagli antichi profeti.
18 The stomach takes in all kinds of food, but some foods are better than others.	18 Ricompensa coloro che ti aspettano con pazienza, in modo che sian riconosciuti fedeli i tuoi profeti ed esaudisci le orazioni dei tuoi servi,
19 As the palate discerns the flavour of game, so a shrewd listener detects lying words.	19 secondo la benedizione di Aronne sul tuo popolo; e guidaci nella via della giustizia, affinchè sappiano tutti gli abitatori della terra che tu sei il Dio scrutatore dei secoli.
20 A perverse character causes depression in others; it needs experience to know how to repay such aone.	20 Il ventre riceve ogni sorta di nutrimento, ma un cibo è migliore d'un altro.
21 A woman wil accept any husband, but some daughters are better than others.	21 Il palato distingue la cacciagione, e il cuore assennato le parole menzognere.
22 A woman's beauty delights the beholder, a man likes nothing better.	22 Il cuore perverso sarà causa di tristezza, ma l'uomo sapiente gli saprà resistere.
23 If her tongue is kind and gentle, her husband is the happiest of men.	23 La donna riceverà qualunque maschio, ma vi son delle fanciulle migliori di altre.
24 The man who takes a wife has the makings of a fortune, a helper to match himself, a pil ar of support.	24 La bellezza della donna fa gaia la faccia del suo marito, e infonde in lui un desiderio superiore ad ogni umana concupiscenza.
25 When property has no fence, it is open to plunder, when a man has no wife, he is aimless andquerulous.	25 Se poi essa ha una lingua sanatrice, piena di soavità e di bontà, suo marito non è come i figli degli uomini.
26 Wil anyone trust an armed thief who flits from town to town?	26 Chi possiede una virtuosa moglie comincia il patrimonio, ha un aiuto simile a sè e una colonna d'appoggio.
27 So it is with the man who has no nest, and lodges wherever night overtakes him.	27 Dove non è siepe sarà devastato il possesso, dove non c'è donna l'uomo sospira nella miseria.
	28 Chi si fida di uno che non ha nido, che va a dormire dove lo coglie il buio della notte, come succinto ladro che salta da una città all'altra?
