Sirach 36

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Take pity on us, Master, Lord of the universe, look at us, spread fear of yourself throughout al othernations.	1 Abbi pietà di noi, o Signore, Dio di tutte le cose, e manda il tuo terrore su tutte le nazioni.
2 Raise your hand against the foreign nations and let them see your might.	2 Leva la tua mano contro le nazioni straniere, perché vedano la tua potenza.
3 As, in their sight, you have proved yourself holy to us, so now, in our sight, prove yourself great to them.	3 Come davanti a loro hai mostrato in noi la tua santità, così davanti a noi mostra in loro la tua potenza.
4 Let them acknowledge you, just as we have acknowledged that there is no God but you, Lord.	4 Riconoscano te come noi ti abbiamo riconosciuto, perché non c'è Dio al di fuori di te, o Signore.
5 Send new portents, do fresh wonders, win glory for your hand and your right arm.	5 Rinnova i segni e ripeti i miracoli, glorifica la tua mano ed il tuo braccio destro.
6 Rouse your fury, pour out your rage, destroy the opponent, annihilate the enemy.	6 Desta il tuo furore e riversa la tua ira, distruggi l'avversario e stermina il nemico.
7 Hasten the day, remember the oath, and let people tell of your mighty deeds.	7 Accèlera i tempi e ricòrdati del giuramento, perché si raccontino i tuoi prodigi.
8 Let fiery wrath swal ow up the survivor, and destruction overtake those who oppress your people.	8 Nel fuoco dell'ira si consumi chi era stato risparmiato, quanti maltrattano il tuo popolo trovino la perdizione.
9 Crush the heads of hostile rulers who say, 'There is no one else but us!'	9 Stritola le teste dei prìncipi stranieri che dicono: "Non c'è nessuno al di fuori di noi".
10 Gather together all the tribes of Jacob, restore them their heritage as at the beginning.	10 Raccogli tutte le tribù di Giacobbe e prendine possesso come una volta.
11 Take pity, Lord, on the people cal ed by your name, on Israel whom you have made your first-born.	11 Abbi pietà, Signore, del popolo chiamato col tuo nome, d'Israele, che hai adottato come primo nato.
12 Have compassion on your holy city, on Jerusalem, the place where you rest.	12 Abbi compassione della città del tuo santuario, di Gerusalemme, luogo del tuo riposo.
13 Fil Zion with your praises and your sanctuary with your glory.	13 Riempi Sion con la lode delle tue grandi imprese e il tuo tempio con la tua gloria.
14 Vindicate those whom you created first, fulfil what has been prophesied in your name.	14 Riconosci ora quelli che hai creato in origine e suscita le profezie che furono fatte nel tuo nome.
15 Give those who wait for you their reward, let your prophets be proved true.	15 Da' la ricompensa a quanti ti attendono, per dare ragione ai tuoi profeti.
16 Grant, Lord, the prayer of your servants, in the terms of Aaron's blessing on your people,	16 Esaudisci, Signore, la supplica dei tuoi servi per la benevolenza che hai con il tuo popolo.
17 so that al the earth's inhabitants may acknowledge that you are the Lord, the everlasting God.	17 Riconoscano tutti sopra la terra che tu, Signore, sei il Dio dei secoli.
18 The stomach takes in all kinds of food, but some foods are better than others.	18 Lo stomaco mangia ogni cibo, ma qualche cibo piace più dell'altro.
19 As the palate discerns the flavour of game, so a shrewd listener detects lying words.	19 Come la gola sente il sapore della selvaggina, così il cuore che riflette, le parole bugiarde.
20 A perverse character causes depression in others; it needs experience to know how to repay such aone.	20 Il cuore perverso darà dolore, ma l'uomo sperimentato lo ricambierà.
21 A woman wil accept any husband, but some daughters are better than others.	21 La donna può accettare qualsiasi marito, ma una moglie non è uguale all'altra.
22 A woman's beauty delights the beholder, a man likes nothing better.	22 La bellezza d'una donna rallegra il volto, supera ogni altro desiderio dell'uomo.
23 If her tongue is kind and gentle, her husband is the happiest of men.	23 Se nella sua lingua c'è bontà e gentilezza, suo marito non è come gli altri uomini.
24 The man who takes a wife has the makings of a fortune, a helper to match himself, a pil ar of support.	24 Chi prende moglie comincia la sua fortuna, ha un aiuto che gli è simile e una colonna d'appoggio.
25 When property has no fence, it is open to plunder, when a man has no wife, he is aimless andquerulous.	25 Dove manca la siepe, la proprietà è saccheggiata, così dove non c'è moglie, l'uomo erra e geme.
26 Wil anyone trust an armed thief who flits from town to town?	26 Chi avrà fiducia in un soldato girovago, che passa da una città all'altra?
27 So it is with the man who has no nest, and lodges wherever night overtakes him.	27 Così è per l'uomo che non ha un nido e che alloggia là dove sopraggiunge la sera.
