Sirach 36

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Take pity on us, Master, Lord of the universe, look at us, spread fear of yourself throughout al othernations.	1 - Abbi pietà di noi, [o Signore] Dio di tutte le cose, e volgi su noi lo sguardo, e mostraci la luce delle tue misericordie,
2 Raise your hand against the foreign nations and let them see your might.	2 e incuti il tuo timore su tutte le genti che non ti curano, affinchè conoscano che non c'è Dio fuori di te, e raccontino le tue meraviglie.
3 As, in their sight, you have proved yourself holy to us, so now, in our sight, prove yourself great to them.	3 Alza la tua mano sulle genti straniere, perchè vedano la tua potenza.
4 Let them acknowledge you, just as we have acknowledged that there is no God but you, Lord.	4 Come al loro cospetto ti mostrasti santo verso di noi, così al cospetto nostro mostrati grande contro di loro.
5 Send new portents, do fresh wonders, win glory for your hand and your right arm.	5 Affinchè conoscano, come noi pure abbiam conosciuto, che non c'è Dio fuori di te, o Signore.
6 Rouse your fury, pour out your rage, destroy the opponent, annihilate the enemy.	6 Rinnova i portenti e ripeti le meravigliose geste.
7 Hasten the day, remember the oath, and let people tell of your mighty deeds.	7 glorifica la [tua] mano e il braccio destro.
8 Let fiery wrath swal ow up the survivor, and destruction overtake those who oppress your people.	8 Eccita il [tuo] furore e sfoga lo sdegno:
9 Crush the heads of hostile rulers who say, 'There is no one else but us!'	9 sopprimi l'avversario e abbatti il nemico.
10 Gather together all the tribes of Jacob, restore them their heritage as at the beginning.	10 Affretta il tempo e ricordati del giuramento, e si celebrino le tue meraviglie!
11 Take pity, Lord, on the people cal ed by your name, on Israel whom you have made your first-born.	11 Dall'ira tua fiammeggiante sia divorato quei che cerca uno scampo, e gli oppressori del tuo popolo trovin la rovina.
12 Have compassion on your holy city, on Jerusalem, the place where you rest.	12 Stritola il capo de' principi de' nemici, i quali dicono: «Non c'è altri fuori di noi».
13 Fil Zion with your praises and your sanctuary with your glory.	13 Riunisci tutte le tribù di Giacobbe, affinchè conoscano che non c'è Dio fuori di te, e raccontino le tue meraviglie, e reintegrali nel loro retaggio, come da principio.
14 Vindicate those whom you created first, fulfil what has been prophesied in your name.	14 Abbi pietà del tuo popolo, che porta il tuo nome, e d'Israele che uguagliasti a un primogenito.
15 Give those who wait for you their reward, let your prophets be proved true.	15 Abbi pietà della città del tuo Santuario, di Gerusalemme, la città del tuo riposo.
16 Grant, Lord, the prayer of your servants, in the terms of Aaron's blessing on your people,	16 Riempi Sion de' tuoi ineffabili oracoli, e il popolo tuo della tua gloria.
17 so that al the earth's inhabitants may acknowledge that you are the Lord, the everlasting God.	17 Rendi testimonianza a favor di quelli che fln da principio furon tue creature, e instaura le promesse fatte in nome tuo dagli antichi profeti.
18 The stomach takes in all kinds of food, but some foods are better than others.	18 Rimunera coloro che han sperato in te, e appaian veritieri i tuoi profeti. Esaudisci, (o Signore] le preghiere de' tuoi servi,
19 As the palate discerns the flavour of game, so a shrewd listener detects lying words.	19 secondo la benedizione di Aronne al tuo popolo, e guidaci per la via della giustizia. E sappian tutti gli abitanti della terra, che tu sei il Signore, Iddio de' secoli.
20 A perverse character causes depression in others; it needs experience to know how to repay such aone.	20 Il ventre inghiotte ogni cibo, ma un cibo è migliore d'un altro.
21 A woman wil accept any husband, but some daughters are better than others.	21 Il palato distingue al gusto la cacciagione, e il cuor sensato le parole bugiarde.
22 A woman's beauty delights the beholder, a man likes nothing better.	22 Un cuore perverso procaccia tristezza, ma l'uomo sperimentato sa resistergli.
23 If her tongue is kind and gentle, her husband is the happiest of men.	23 A un maschio qualunque si marita la donna, ma una ragazza è migliore d' un'altra.
24 The man who takes a wife has the makings of a fortune, a helper to match himself, a pil ar of support.	24 La bellezza d'una donna esilara il volto del suo marito, e ingenera un desiderio che sorpassa ogni brama d'uomo.
25 When property has no fence, it is open to plunder, when a man has no wife, he is aimless andquerulous.	25 S'ella ha una lingua confortatrice e mite e benigna, suo marito non è come [il comune de] gli uomini.
26 Wil anyone trust an armed thief who flits from town to town?	26 Chi si procura una buona moglie, comincia a essere un possidente: ha un aiuto adatto a sè, e una colonna di riposo.
27 So it is with the man who has no nest, and lodges wherever night overtakes him.	27 Dove non c'è siepe, sarà saccheggiato il podere, e dove non c'è una moglie, [l'uomo] sospira nella miseria.
	28 Chi si fida di uno che non ha nido, e che si ferma dovunque il buio lo coglie, come un agile brigante che corre di città in città?
