Sirach 36

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Take pity on us, Master, Lord of the universe, look at us, spread fear of yourself throughout al othernations.	1 Abbi pietà di noi, Signore, Dio dell’universo, e guarda,
2 Raise your hand against the foreign nations and let them see your might.	2 infondi il tuo timore su tutte le nazioni.
3 As, in their sight, you have proved yourself holy to us, so now, in our sight, prove yourself great to them.	3 Alza la tua mano sulle nazioni straniere, perché vedano la tua potenza.
4 Let them acknowledge you, just as we have acknowledged that there is no God but you, Lord.	4 Come davanti a loro ti sei mostrato santo in mezzo a noi, così davanti a noi móstrati grande fra di loro.
5 Send new portents, do fresh wonders, win glory for your hand and your right arm.	5 Ti riconoscano, come anche noi abbiamo riconosciuto che non c’è Dio al di fuori di te, o Signore.
6 Rouse your fury, pour out your rage, destroy the opponent, annihilate the enemy.	6 Rinnova i segni e ripeti i prodigi,
7 Hasten the day, remember the oath, and let people tell of your mighty deeds.	7 glorifica la tua mano e il tuo braccio destro.
8 Let fiery wrath swal ow up the survivor, and destruction overtake those who oppress your people.	8 Risveglia il tuo sdegno e riversa la tua ira,
9 Crush the heads of hostile rulers who say, 'There is no one else but us!'	9 distruggi l’avversario e abbatti il nemico.
10 Gather together all the tribes of Jacob, restore them their heritage as at the beginning.	10 Affretta il tempo e ricòrdati del giuramento, e si narrino le tue meraviglie.
11 Take pity, Lord, on the people cal ed by your name, on Israel whom you have made your first-born.	11 Sia consumato dall’ira del fuoco chi è sopravvissuto e cadano in rovina quelli che maltrattano il tuo popolo.
12 Have compassion on your holy city, on Jerusalem, the place where you rest.	12 Schiaccia le teste dei capi nemici che dicono: «Non c’è nessuno al di fuori di noi».
13 Fil Zion with your praises and your sanctuary with your glory.	13 Raduna tutte le tribù di Giacobbe, rendi loro l’eredità come era al principio.
14 Vindicate those whom you created first, fulfil what has been prophesied in your name.	14 Abbi pietà, Signore, del popolo chiamato con il tuo nome, d’Israele che hai reso simile a un primogenito.
15 Give those who wait for you their reward, let your prophets be proved true.	15 Abbi pietà della tua città santa, di Gerusalemme, luogo del tuo riposo.
16 Grant, Lord, the prayer of your servants, in the terms of Aaron's blessing on your people,	16 Riempi Sion della celebrazione delle tue imprese e il tuo popolo della tua gloria.
17 so that al the earth's inhabitants may acknowledge that you are the Lord, the everlasting God.	17 Rendi testimonianza alle creature che sono tue fin dal principio, risveglia le profezie fatte nel tuo nome.
18 The stomach takes in all kinds of food, but some foods are better than others.	18 Ricompensa coloro che perseverano in te, i tuoi profeti siano trovati degni di fede. Ascolta, Signore, la preghiera dei tuoi servi,
19 As the palate discerns the flavour of game, so a shrewd listener detects lying words.	19 secondo la benedizione di Aronne sul tuo popolo, e riconoscano tutti quelli che abitano sulla terra che tu sei il Signore, il Dio dei secoli.
20 A perverse character causes depression in others; it needs experience to know how to repay such aone.	20 Il ventre consuma ogni cibo, eppure un cibo è preferibile a un altro.
21 A woman wil accept any husband, but some daughters are better than others.	21 Il palato distingue al gusto la selvaggina, così un cuore intelligente i discorsi bugiardi.
22 A woman's beauty delights the beholder, a man likes nothing better.	22 Un cuore perverso è causa di dolore, un uomo dalla molta esperienza lo ripaga.
23 If her tongue is kind and gentle, her husband is the happiest of men.	23 Una donna accetta qualsiasi marito, ma vi è una giovane che è migliore di un’altra.
24 The man who takes a wife has the makings of a fortune, a helper to match himself, a pil ar of support.	24 La bellezza di una donna allieta il volto e sorpassa ogni desiderio dell’uomo.
25 When property has no fence, it is open to plunder, when a man has no wife, he is aimless andquerulous.	25 Se sulla sua lingua vi è bontà e dolcezza, suo marito non è un comune mortale.
26 Wil anyone trust an armed thief who flits from town to town?	26 Chi si procura una sposa, possiede il primo dei beni, un aiuto adatto a lui e una colonna d’appoggio.
27 So it is with the man who has no nest, and lodges wherever night overtakes him.	27 Dove non esiste siepe, la proprietà viene saccheggiata, dove non c’è donna, l’uomo geme randagio.
	28 Chi si fida di un agile ladro che corre di città in città? Così è per l’uomo che non ha un nido e che si corica là dove lo coglie la notte.
