Sirach 36

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Take pity on us, Master, Lord of the universe, look at us, spread fear of yourself throughout al othernations.	1 Ten piedad de nosotros, Dueño soberano, Dios de todas las cosas, y mira, infunde tu temor a todas las naciones.
2 Raise your hand against the foreign nations and let them see your might.	2 Levanta tu mano contra las naciones extranjeras y que ellas vean tu dominio.
3 As, in their sight, you have proved yourself holy to us, so now, in our sight, prove yourself great to them.	3 Así como les manifestaste tu santidad al castigarnos, manifiéstanos también tu grandeza castigándolas a ellas;
4 Let them acknowledge you, just as we have acknowledged that there is no God but you, Lord.	4 y que ellas te reconozcan, como hemos reconocido nosotros que no hay otro Dios fuera de ti, Señor.
5 Send new portents, do fresh wonders, win glory for your hand and your right arm.	5 Renueva los signos y repite las maravillas, glorifica tu mano y tu brazo derecho.
6 Rouse your fury, pour out your rage, destroy the opponent, annihilate the enemy.	6 Despierta tu furor y derrama tu ira, suprime al adversario y extermina al enemigo.
7 Hasten the day, remember the oath, and let people tell of your mighty deeds.	7 Apresura la hora y acuérdate del juramento, para que se narren tus hazañas.
8 Let fiery wrath swal ow up the survivor, and destruction overtake those who oppress your people.	8 Que el fugitivo sea devorado por el ardor del fuego, y que encuentren su perdición los que maltratan a tu pueblo.
9 Crush the heads of hostile rulers who say, 'There is no one else but us!'	9 Aplasta la cabeza de los jefes enemigos, que dicen: «¡No hay nadie fuera de nosotros!».
10 Gather together all the tribes of Jacob, restore them their heritage as at the beginning.	10 Congrega a todas las tribus de Jacob, y entrégales su herencia, como al comienzo.
11 Take pity, Lord, on the people cal ed by your name, on Israel whom you have made your first-born.	11 Ten piedad, Señor, del pueblo que es llamado con tu Nombre, de Israel, a quien trataste como a un primogénito.
12 Have compassion on your holy city, on Jerusalem, the place where you rest.	12 Ten compasión de Ciudad santa, de Jerusalén, el lugar de reposo.
13 Fil Zion with your praises and your sanctuary with your glory.	13 Llena a Sión de alabanzas por tu triunfo, y a tu pueblo, cólmalo de tu gloria.
14 Vindicate those whom you created first, fulfil what has been prophesied in your name.	14 Da testimonio a favor de los que tú creaste en el principio, y cumple las profecías anunciadas en tu Nombre.
15 Give those who wait for you their reward, let your prophets be proved true.	15 Dales la recompensa a los que te aguardan, y que se compruebe la veracidad de tus profetas.
16 Grant, Lord, the prayer of your servants, in the terms of Aaron's blessing on your people,	16 Escucha, Señor, la oración de los que te suplican, conforme a la bendición de Aarón sobre tu pueblo,
17 so that al the earth's inhabitants may acknowledge that you are the Lord, the everlasting God.	17 para que todos los que viven en la tierra reconozcan que tú eres el Señor, el Dios eterno.
18 The stomach takes in all kinds of food, but some foods are better than others.	18 El estómago asimila toda clase de alimentos, pero hay unos mejores que otros.
19 As the palate discerns the flavour of game, so a shrewd listener detects lying words.	19 El paladar distingue los manjares y el corazón inteligente descubre las mentiras.
20 A perverse character causes depression in others; it needs experience to know how to repay such aone.	20 Un corazón tortuoso provoca contrariedades, pero el hombre de experiencia le da su merecido.
21 A woman wil accept any husband, but some daughters are better than others.	21 Una mujer acepta cualquier marido, pero unas jóvenes son mejores que otras.
22 A woman's beauty delights the beholder, a man likes nothing better.	22 La hermosura de la mujer alegra el rostro y supera todos los deseos del hombre.
23 If her tongue is kind and gentle, her husband is the happiest of men.	23 Si en sus labios hay bondad y dulzura, su marido ya no es más uno de tantos hombres.
24 The man who takes a wife has the makings of a fortune, a helper to match himself, a pil ar of support.	24 El que adquiere una mujer tiene el comienzo de la fortuna, una ayuda adecuada a él y una columna donde apoyarse.
25 When property has no fence, it is open to plunder, when a man has no wife, he is aimless andquerulous.	25 Donde no hay valla, la propiedad es saqueada, y donde no hay mujer, el hombre gime y va a la deriva.
26 Wil anyone trust an armed thief who flits from town to town?	26 ¿Quién puede fiarse de un salteador que va rápidamente de ciudad en ciudad?
27 So it is with the man who has no nest, and lodges wherever night overtakes him.	27 Así sucede con el hombre sin nido, que se alberga donde lo sorprende la noche.
