Sirach 27

NEW JERUSALEM	KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA
1 Many have sinned for the sake of profit, one who hopes to be rich must turn a blind eye.	1 Sokan vétkeztek nélkülözés miatt, s aki meg akar gazdagodni, elfordítja szemét;
2 A peg wil stick in the joint between two stones, and sin wil wedge itself between sel ing and buying.	2 szilárdan áll a karó kövek közé ékelve, így szorul bűn az eladás és vevés közé.
3 Whoever does not firmly hold to the fear of the Lord, his house wil soon be overthrown.	3 A bűnössel együtt a bűnre is összetörés vár.
4 In a shaken sieve the rubbish is left behind, so too the defects of a person appear in speech.	4 Ha nem ragaszkodsz buzgón az Úr félelméhez, hirtelen összedől a házad.
5 The kiln tests the work of the potter, the test of a person is in conversation.	5 Visszamarad a pelyva rostáláskor, így az ember gyengéje is, ha elgondolkodik felette.
6 The orchard where the tree grows is judged by its fruit, similarly words betray what a person feels.	6 A kemence teszi próbára a fazekas edényeit, az igaz embereket pedig a nyomorúság kísértése.
7 Do not praise anyone who has not yet spoken, since this is where people are tested.	7 A fa gondozásáról gyümölcse tanúskodik, az ember szívének gondolkodásáról pedig a beszéde.
8 If you pursue virtue, you will attain it and put it on like a festal gown.	8 Senkit se dicsérj, mielőtt nem beszélt, mert ez az ember próbája.
9 Birds consort with their kind, truth comes home to those who practise it.	9 Ha az igazságosságot nyomon követed, el is éred, és magadra veheted díszes ruha gyanánt. Nála vehetsz lakást, s az oltalmába fogad téged örökre, és erős támaszod lesz a számadás napján.
10 The lion lies in wait for its prey, so does sin for those who do wrong.	10 A maguk fajtájához gyülekeznek a madarak, a becsületesség is azokhoz tér, akik gyakorolják.
11 The conversation of the devout is wisdom at all times, but the fool is as changeable as the moon.	11 Prédára les folyton az oroszlán, így a bűn is azokra, akik jogtalanságot cselekszenek.
12 When visiting stupid people, choose the right moment, but among the thoughtful take your time.	12 A jámbor ember állhatatos a bölcsességben, mint a nap, a balga azonban változik, mint a hold.
13 The conversation of fools is disgusting, raucous their laughter in their sinful pleasures.	13 A balgák közt tartogasd a szót a kellő időre, az okosok közt azonban állandóan időzzél.
14 The talk of hard-swearing people makes your hair stand on end, their brawling makes you stop yourears.	14 A balgák társalgása utálatos, és nevetésük gyönyörködés a bűnben.
15 A quarrel between the proud leads to bloodshed, and their insults are embarrassing to hear.	15 Az esküdözők beszéde hajmeresztő, tiszteletlenségük előtt be kell dugni a fület.
16 A betrayer of secrets forfeits al trust and wil never find the kind of friend he wants.	16 A dölyfösök viszálya vérontással jár, és kellemetlen hallgatni átkozódásukat.
17 Be fond of a friend and keep faith with him, but if you have betrayed his secrets, do not go after himany more;	17 Aki elárulja barátja titkait, elveszti bizalmát, és nem talál többé szíve szerint való barátot.
18 for, as one destroys a person by kil ing him, so you have kil ed your neighbour's friendship,	18 Szeresd barátodat, és légy hű hozzá,
19 and as you let a bird slip through your fingers, so you have let your friend go, and wil not catch him.	19 de ha elárultad titkait, ne szaladj utána!
20 Do not go after him -- he is far away, he has fled like a gazel e from the snare.	20 Mert miként az ember, aki elherdálta örökségét, te is elvesztetted társad barátságát,
21 For a wound can be bandaged and abuse forgiven, but for the betrayer of a secret there is no hope.	21 mint ahogy eleresztik a madarat a kézből, te is elengedted barátodat, és nem kapod vissza többé.
22 Someone with a sly wink is plotting mischief, no one can dissuade him from it.	22 Ne járj utána, mert messze távozott, elmenekült, mint a gazella a hálóból, mert sebet kapott a lelke,
23 Honey-tongued to your face, he is lost in admiration at your words; but behind your back he has otherthings to say, and turns your words into a stumbling-block.	23 és nem tudod többé bekötözni. Még szitokszó után is ki lehet békülni,
24 I have found many things to hate, but nothing as much as him, and the Lord hates him too.	24 de aki elárulta barátja titkait, annak a boldogtalan léleknek nincs többé reménye!
25 Whoever throws a stone in the air, throws it on to his own head; a treacherous blow cuts both ways.	25 Aki hunyorgat szemével, gonoszban töri fejét, de senki sem veti el magától!
26 The man who digs a pit falls into it, whoever sets a snare wil be caught by it.	26 Szájával szépeket mond neked szemtől szembe, és megcsodálja beszédedet, később azonban fordít a szavain, és botrányt talál beszédedben.
27 On anyone who does evil, evil wil recoil, without his knowing where it comes from.	27 Sok dolgot utálok, de egyet sem úgy, mint az ilyen embert, s az Úr is gyűlöli őt!
28 Sarcasm and abuse are the mark of the arrogant, but vengeance lies in wait like a lion for such a one.	28 Annak a fejére esik a kő, aki a magasba dobja, s az álnokul ejtett seb az álnoknak okoz sebet.
29 The trap will close on all who rejoice in the downfal of the devout, and pain wil eat them up beforethey die.	29 Aki vermet ás, maga esik bele, aki követ tesz társa elé, belebotlik abba, s aki másnak tőrt vet, maga vész el benne.
30 Resentment and anger, these are foul things too, and a sinner is a master at them both.	30 Aki gonosz tervet kovácsol, rá gördül az vissza, s azt sem tudja, honnan jött az rá! Csúfság és gyalázat vár a dölyfösökre, mint az oroszlán, úgy les rájuk a megtorlás. Csapdában vesznek el, akik igazak elestén vigadnak, fájdalom emészti el őket, mielőtt meghalnak. Harag és düh, utálatos mindkettő, csak a bűnös ember ragaszkodik hozzájuk.
