Sirach 27

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Many have sinned for the sake of profit, one who hopes to be rich must turn a blind eye.	1 Per la miseria peccaron molti, e chi cerca d'arricchire, volge via l'occhio suo.
2 A peg wil stick in the joint between two stones, and sin wil wedge itself between sel ing and buying.	2 Come nelle connettiture delle pietre si ficca il piolo, così tra la vendita e la compra s'insinua il peccato:
3 Whoever does not firmly hold to the fear of the Lord, his house wil soon be overthrown.	3 ma sarà stritolato il peccato insieme al peccatore.
4 In a shaken sieve the rubbish is left behind, so too the defects of a person appear in speech.	4 Se non ti manterrai con cura nel timor del Signore, presto andrà in rovina la tua casa.
5 The kiln tests the work of the potter, the test of a person is in conversation.	5 Come scotendo il vaglio resta il tritume, così le immondizie dell'uomo [vengono a galla] nel suo ragionare.
6 The orchard where the tree grows is judged by its fruit, similarly words betray what a person feels.	6 I vasi di terra li prova la fornace, e la prova dell'uomo sta nel suo conversare.
7 Do not praise anyone who has not yet spoken, since this is where people are tested.	7 Come la coltivazione d'un albero la manifesta il suo frutto, così la parola [rivela] i sentimenti del cuore dell'uomo.
8 If you pursue virtue, you will attain it and put it on like a festal gown.	8 Prima che uno abbia parlato non lo lodare, perchè questa la prova dell'uomo.
9 Birds consort with their kind, truth comes home to those who practise it.	9 Se andrai dietro alla giustizia, la raggiungerai, e l'indosserai come una veste d'onore. E dimorerai con essa e ti proteggerà per sempre, e nel giorno del giudizio troverai un sostegno.
10 The lion lies in wait for its prey, so does sin for those who do wrong.	10 i volatili si riuniscono con i loro simili, e la verità fa ritornò verso coloro che la praticano.
11 The conversation of the devout is wisdom at all times, but the fool is as changeable as the moon.	11 Il leone tende sempre insidie alla preda, e così i peccati a quei che commettono iniquità.
12 When visiting stupid people, choose the right moment, but among the thoughtful take your time.	12 L'uomo pio persiste nella sapienza come il sole, ma il insensato si muta come la luna.
13 The conversation of fools is disgusting, raucous their laughter in their sinful pleasures.	13 in mezzo agl'insipienti va' a tempo opportuno, ma in mezzo al riflessivi, sta del continuo.
14 The talk of hard-swearing people makes your hair stand on end, their brawling makes you stop yourears.	14 La conversazione de' peccatori è odiosa, e il loro riso [scroscia], ne' piaceri del peccato.
15 A quarrel between the proud leads to bloodshed, and their insults are embarrassing to hear.	15 linguaggio di chi giura molto fa drizzare i capelli sul capo, e l'impudenza di lui [negli alterchi] fa turar le orecchie.
16 A betrayer of secrets forfeits al trust and wil never find the kind of friend he wants.	16 Spargimento di sangue [s'ha] nelle risse degli orgogliosi, e i loro improperi son ributtanti a udire.
17 Be fond of a friend and keep faith with him, but if you have betrayed his secrets, do not go after himany more;	17 Chi svela i segreti dell'amico perde la fiducia, e non troverà [più] un amico secondo il suo cuore.
18 for, as one destroys a person by kil ing him, so you have kil ed your neighbour's friendship,	18 Ama l'amico e diportati fedelmente con lui;
19 and as you let a bird slip through your fingers, so you have let your friend go, and wil not catch him.	19 se avrai svelato i suoi segreti, invano gli correrai dietro.
20 Do not go after him -- he is far away, he has fled like a gazel e from the snare.	20 Come uno infatti che distrugge il suo nemico, cosi tu hai distrutto l'amicizia del tuo prossimo,
21 For a wound can be bandaged and abuse forgiven, but for the betrayer of a secret there is no hope.	21 E come chi lascia volar via un uccello dalla sua mano, cosi tu hai lasciato andare il tuo amico e non lo riacchiapperai.
22 Someone with a sly wink is plotting mischief, no one can dissuade him from it.	22 Non gli correr dietro, perchè è lontano, e se ne fuggi come una gazzella dal laccio. Poiché fu ferita l'anima sua,
23 Honey-tongued to your face, he is lost in admiration at your words; but behind your back he has otherthings to say, and turns your words into a stumbling-block.	23 tu non potrai più riunirlo [a te]. Dopo l'ingiuria c'è la riconciliazione;
24 I have found many things to hate, but nothing as much as him, and the Lord hates him too.	24 ma l'aver svelato i segreti dell'amico è disperazione d'anima infelice.
25 Whoever throws a stone in the air, throws it on to his own head; a treacherous blow cuts both ways.	25 Chi strizza l'occhio, fabbrica il male, e niuno riesce a sbarazzarsi di lui.
26 The man who digs a pit falls into it, whoever sets a snare wil be caught by it.	26 Davanti ai tuoi occhi addolcirà la sua bocca, e ammirerà i tuoi detti: dopo poi muterà bocca, e travolgerà le tue parole in oggetto di scandalo.
27 On anyone who does evil, evil wil recoil, without his knowing where it comes from.	27 Molte cose lo odio, ma nulla al par di costui: e il Signore [anch'egli] l'odierà.
28 Sarcasm and abuse are the mark of the arrogant, but vengeance lies in wait like a lion for such a one.	28 Chi scaglia una pietra in alto, la farà ricader sul suo capo, e il colpo sleale aprirà ferite sullo sleale.
29 The trap will close on all who rejoice in the downfal of the devout, and pain wil eat them up beforethey die.	29 Chi scava una fossa, cl cade dentro, e chi mette una pietra per far inciampare il prossimo, c'inciampa lui, e chi tende un laccio ad altri, ci resta preso.
30 Resentment and anger, these are foul things too, and a sinner is a master at them both.	30 Chi cerca far del male, su se stesso lo vedrà rotolare, e non saprà donde gli venga addosso.
	31 Lo scherno e l'oltraggio son [sulla bocca] de' superbi; ma la vendetta starà in agguato, come un leone, contro di essi.
	32 Saran presi al laccio quelli che si rallegran della caduta de' giusti, e il dolore li consumerà prima che muoiano.
	33 L'ira e lo sdegno son l'una e l'altro abominevoli cose, e il peccatore le possederà.
