Sirach 27

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Many have sinned for the sake of profit, one who hopes to be rich must turn a blind eye.	1 Muchos han pecado por amor a las ganancias y el que busca enriquecerse hace como quien no ve.
2 A peg wil stick in the joint between two stones, and sin wil wedge itself between sel ing and buying.	2 Entre la juntura de las piedras se clava la estaca, y entre la compra y la venta se desliza el pecado.
3 Whoever does not firmly hold to the fear of the Lord, his house wil soon be overthrown.	3 El que no se aferra resueltamente al temor del Señor verá muy pronto su casa en ruinas.
4 In a shaken sieve the rubbish is left behind, so too the defects of a person appear in speech.	4 Cuando se zarandea la criba, quedan los residuos: así los desechos de un hombre aparecen en sus palabras.
5 The kiln tests the work of the potter, the test of a person is in conversation.	5 El horno pone a prueba los vasos del alfarero, y la prueba del hombre está en su conversación.
6 The orchard where the tree grows is judged by its fruit, similarly words betray what a person feels.	6 El árbol bien cultivado se manifiesta en sus frutos; así la palabra expresa la índole de cada uno.
7 Do not praise anyone who has not yet spoken, since this is where people are tested.	7 No elogies a nadie antes de oírlo razonar, porque allí es donde se prueban los hombres.
8 If you pursue virtue, you will attain it and put it on like a festal gown.	8 Si buscas la justicia, la alcanzarás, y te revestirás de ella como de una túnica gloriosa.
9 Birds consort with their kind, truth comes home to those who practise it.	9 Los pájaros buscan la compañía de sus semejantes y la verdad retorna a aquellos que la practican.
10 The lion lies in wait for its prey, so does sin for those who do wrong.	10 El león está al acecho de su presa y el pecado, de los que practican la injusticia.
11 The conversation of the devout is wisdom at all times, but the fool is as changeable as the moon.	11 La conversación del hombre bueno es siempre sabia, pero el insensato es variable como la luna.
12 When visiting stupid people, choose the right moment, but among the thoughtful take your time.	12 Mide tu tiempo cuando estés entre los necios, pero quédate largo rato entre la gente de criterio.
13 The conversation of fools is disgusting, raucous their laughter in their sinful pleasures.	13 La conversación de los necios es odiosa y sólo les causa gracia el vicio desenfrenado.
14 The talk of hard-swearing people makes your hair stand on end, their brawling makes you stop yourears.	14 Los que juran constantemente hacen erizar los cabellos y cuando discuten, hay que taparse los oídos.
15 A quarrel between the proud leads to bloodshed, and their insults are embarrassing to hear.	15 Las disputas de los orgullosos hacen correr la sangre y es lamentable escuchar sus invectivas.
16 A betrayer of secrets forfeits al trust and wil never find the kind of friend he wants.	16 El que revela los secretos hace que le pierdan la confianza y no encontrará jamás un amigo íntimo.
17 Be fond of a friend and keep faith with him, but if you have betrayed his secrets, do not go after himany more;	17 Sé afectuoso y confiado con tu amigo, pero si has revelado sus secretos, no corras tras él,
18 for, as one destroys a person by kil ing him, so you have kil ed your neighbour's friendship,	18 porque como el asesino destruye a su víctima, así has destruido la amistad de tu prójimo:
19 and as you let a bird slip through your fingers, so you have let your friend go, and wil not catch him.	19 como un pájaro que has dejado escapar de tu mano, así has perdido a tu amigo, y ya no lo recobrarás.
20 Do not go after him -- he is far away, he has fled like a gazel e from the snare.	20 No corras detrás de él, porque está muy lejos, huyó como una gacela de la red.
21 For a wound can be bandaged and abuse forgiven, but for the betrayer of a secret there is no hope.	21 Porque una herida puede ser vendada, y para la injuria puede haber reconciliación, pero el que revela los secretos nada puede esperar.
22 Someone with a sly wink is plotting mischief, no one can dissuade him from it.	22 Algo malo trama el que guiña un ojo, y nadie logrará disuadirlo.
23 Honey-tongued to your face, he is lost in admiration at your words; but behind your back he has otherthings to say, and turns your words into a stumbling-block.	23 Delante de tus ojos, su boca es toda dulzura y se extasía con tus palabras, pero por detrás cambia de lenguaje y tiende una trampa con tus mismas palabras.
24 I have found many things to hate, but nothing as much as him, and the Lord hates him too.	24 Yo detesto muchas cosas, pero más que nada a él, y el Señor también lo detesta. En el pecado, el castigo
25 Whoever throws a stone in the air, throws it on to his own head; a treacherous blow cuts both ways.	25 El que tira una piedra hacia arriba, la tira sobre su cabeza, y un golpe traicionero hiere también al que lo da.
26 The man who digs a pit falls into it, whoever sets a snare wil be caught by it.	26 El que cava una fosa caerá en ella y el que tiende una red quedará enredado.
27 On anyone who does evil, evil wil recoil, without his knowing where it comes from.	27 El mal que se comete recae sobre uno mismo, sin que se sepa siquiera de dónde proviene.
28 Sarcasm and abuse are the mark of the arrogant, but vengeance lies in wait like a lion for such a one.	28 Sarcasmos e insultos son propios de los soberbios, pero el castigo los acecha como un león.
29 The trap will close on all who rejoice in the downfal of the devout, and pain wil eat them up beforethey die.	29 Caerán en la red los que se alegran de la caída de los buenos y el dolor los consumirá antes de su muerte.
30 Resentment and anger, these are foul things too, and a sinner is a master at them both.	30 También el rencor y la ira son abominables, y ambas cosas son patrimonio de pecador.
