Sirach 26

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 How blessed is the husband of a really good wife; the number of his days will be doubled.	1 ¡Feliz el marido de una buena esposa: se duplicará el número de sus días!
2 A perfect wife is the joy of her husband, he wil live out the years of his life in peace.	2 La mujer hacendosa es la alegría de su marido y él vivirá en paz hasta el último de sus días.
3 A good wife is the best of portions, reserved for those who fear the Lord;	3 Una buena esposa es una gran fortuna, reservada en suerte a los que temen al Señor:
4 rich or poor, their hearts wil be glad, their faces cheerful, whatever the season.	4 sea rico o pobre, su corazón será dichoso y su rostro estará radiante en todo momento.
5 There are three things that I dread, and a fourth which terrifies me: slander by a whole town, thegathering of a mob, and a false accusation -- these are al worse than death;	5 Hay tres cosas que me inspiran temor, y por la cuarta imploro misericordia: ciudad dividida, multitud amotinada y falsa acusación son más penosas que la muerte.
6 but a woman jealous of a woman means heartbreak and sorrow, and al this is the scourge of thetongue.	6 Pero pesadumbre y duelo es la mujer celosa de su rival, y en todo está presente el flagelo de la lengua.
7 A bad wife is a badly fitting ox-yoke, trying to master her is like grasping a scorpion.	7 Un yugo mal ajustado es una mala mujer: tratar de sujetarla es agarrar un escorpión.
8 A drunken wife wil goad anyone to fury, she cannot conceal her own degradation.	8 Una mujer bebedora provoca indignación: ella no podrá ocultar si ignominia.
9 A woman's wantonness shows in her wide-eyed look, her eyelashes leave no doubt.	9 en el descaro de la mirada y en sus pupilas se reconoce la procacidad de una mujer.
10 Keep a headstrong daughter under firm control, or, feeling free, she wil take advantage of it.	10 Redobla la guardia ante una joven atrevida, no sea que descubra una ocasión se aproveche.
11 Keep a strict watch on her shameless eye, do not be surprised if she disgraces you.	11 Cuídate de las miradas provocativas y no te sorprendas si te incitan al mal.
12 Like a thirsty travel er she wil open her mouth and drink any water she comes across; she wil sitdown in front of every tent-peg and open her quiver to any arrow.	12 Ella abre la boca como un viajero sediento y bebe toda el agua que se le ofrece; se sienta ante cualquier estaca y abre su aljaba a todas las flechas.
13 The grace of a wife wil charm her husband, her understanding will make him the stronger.	13 La gracia de una mujer deleita a su marido y su buen juicio lo llena de vigor.
14 A silent wife is a gift from the Lord, no price can be put on a well-trained character.	14 Una mujer discreta es un don del Señor y no tiene precio la esposa bien educada.
15 A modest wife is a boon twice over, a chaste character cannot be over-valued.	15 Una mujer pudorosa es la mayor de las gracias y no hay escala para medir a la que es dueña de sí misma.
16 Like the sun rising over the mountains of the Lord, such is the beauty of a good wife in a wel -runhouse.	16 Como el sol que se eleva por las alturas del Señor, así es el encanto de la buena esposa es una casa ordenada.
17 Like a lamp shining on the sacred lamp-stand, such is a beautiful face on a wel -proportioned body.	17 Como una lámpara que brilla sobre el candelabro sagrado, así es la belleza del rostro sobre un cuerpo esbelto.
18 Like golden pil ars on a silver base, such are shapely legs on firm-set heels.	18 Columnas de oro sobre un zócalo de plata son las piernas hermosas sobres talones firmes.

28 There are two things which grieve my heart and a third arouses my anger: a warrior wasting awaythrough poverty, the intel igent treated with contempt, someone turning back from virtue to sin -- the Lord marksout such a person for a violent death.	28 Hay dos cosas que me entristecen y por una tercera se enciende mi enojo: un guerrero sumido en la indigencia, los hombres inteligentes tratados con desprecio y el que vuelve de la justicia al pecado: a este, el Señor lo destina a la espada.
29 It is difficult for a merchant to avoid doing wrong and for a trader not to incur sin.	29 Difícilmente un comerciante se libra de incurrir en falta, y un negociante no estará exento de pecado.
