Sirach 2

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 My child, if you aspire to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for an ordeal.	1 Figlio mio, se entri al servi zio di Dio sii costante nella giustizia e nel timore, e prepara l'anima tua alla tentazione.
2 Be sincere of heart, be steadfast, and do not be alarmed when disaster comes.	2 Umilia il tuo cuore e sopporta, porgi l'orecchio e accetta i saggi consigli, e non precipitare nel tempo del buio.
3 Cling to him and do not leave him, so that you may be honoured at the end of your days.	3 Sopporta le dilazioni di Dio, stai unito a Dio e aspetta con pazienza, e da ultimo sarà prospera la tua vita.
4 Whatever happens to you, accept it, and in the uncertainties of your humble state, be patient,	4 Accetta tutto quello che ti manda, e nel dolore sopporta, e nell'umiliazione abbi pazienza.
5 since gold is tested in the fire, and the chosen in the furnace of humiliation.	5 Perchè col fuoco son purificati l'oro e l'argento; ma gli uomini accetti a Dio, nel crogiolo delle umiliazioni.
6 Trust him and he wil uphold you, fol ow a straight path and hope in him.	6 Abbi fede in Dio, ed Egli ti assisterà. Tieni retta condotta e spera in lui, conserva il suo timore ed in esso invecchia.
7 You who fear the Lord, wait for his mercy; do not turn aside, for fear you fal .	7 Voi che temete il Signore, aspettate con pazienza la sua misericordia e non v'allontanate da lui, per non cadere.
8 You who fear the Lord, trust him, and you will not be robbed of your reward.	8 Voi che temete il Signore abbiate fede in lui e non perderete la vostra mercede.
9 You who fear the Lord, hope for those good gifts of his, everlasting joy and mercy.	9 Voi che temete il Signore, sperate in lui e a vostra consolazione verrà la misericordia.
10 Look at the generations of old and see: whoever trusted in the Lord and was put to shame? Orwhoever, steadfastly fearing him, was forsaken? Or whoever cal ed to him and was ignored?	10 Voi che temete il Signore, amatelo, e saranno illuminati i vostri cuori.
11 For the Lord is compassionate and merciful, he forgives sins and saves in the time of distress.	11 Guardate, o figlioli, le generazioni degli uomini, e sappiate che nessuno il quale sperò nel Signore è restato confuso.
12 Woe to faint hearts and listless hands, and to the sinner who treads two paths.	12 Chi perseverò nei suoi comandamenti e fu abbandonato? Chi l'invocò e fu disprezzato?
13 Woe to the listless heart that has no faith, for such will have no protection.	13 Dio ha compassione ed è misericordioso, nel giorno della tribolazione perdona i peccati, ed è protettore di tutti quelli che lo cercano con sincerità.
14 Woe to you who have lost the strength to endure; what will you do at the Lord's visitation?	14 Guai al cuor doppio, alle labbra scellerate, alle mani che fanno il male, al peccatore che cammina per due vie sulla terra.
15 Those who fear the Lord do not disdain his words, and those who love him keep his ways.	15 Guai agli scoraggiati che non han fiducia in Dio, e per questo non saran da lui protetti.
16 Those who fear the Lord do their best to please him, and those who love him wil find satisfaction in theLaw.	16 Guai a quelli che perdon la pazienza e abbandonano le vie rette, per andare in quelle storte.
17 Those who fear the Lord keep their hearts prepared and humble themselves in his presence.	17 Che faranno essi quando Dio comincerà a rivedere i conti?
18 Let us fal into the hands of the Lord, not into any human clutches; for as his majesty is, so too is hismercy.	18 Coloro che temono il Signore presteran fede alla sua parola, e coloro che lo amano seguiranno le sue vie.
	19 Coloro che temono il Signore cercano le cose che piacciono a lui, e quelli che lo amano son ripieni della sua legge.
	20 Coloro che temono il Signore prepareranno i loro cuori, e alla sua presenza santificheranno le loro anime.
	21 Coloro che temono il Signore ne osservano i comandamenti, ed avran pazienza finché Egli non volgerà lo sguardo.
	22 E diranno: « Se non faremo penitenza cadremo nelle mani del Signore e non nelle mani degli uomini;
	23 ma quanto Egli è grande altrettanto è misericordioso ».
