Sirach 2

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 My child, if you aspire to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for an ordeal.	1 Hijo, si te llegas a servir al Señor, prepara tu alma para la prueba.
2 Be sincere of heart, be steadfast, and do not be alarmed when disaster comes.	2 Endereza tu corazón, manténte firme, y no te aceleres en la hora de la adversidad.
3 Cling to him and do not leave him, so that you may be honoured at the end of your days.	3 Adhiérete a él, no te separes, para que seas exaltado en tus postrimerías.
4 Whatever happens to you, accept it, and in the uncertainties of your humble state, be patient,	4 Todo lo que te sobrevenga, acéptalo, y en los reveses de tu humillación sé paciente.
5 since gold is tested in the fire, and the chosen in the furnace of humiliation.	5 Porque en el fuego se purifica el oro, y los aceptos a Dios en el honor de la humillación.
6 Trust him and he wil uphold you, fol ow a straight path and hope in him.	6 Confíate a él, y él, a su vez, te cuidará, endereza tus caminos y espera en él.
7 You who fear the Lord, wait for his mercy; do not turn aside, for fear you fal .	7 Los que teméis al Señor, aguardad su misericordia, y no os desviéis, para no caer.
8 You who fear the Lord, trust him, and you will not be robbed of your reward.	8 Los que teméis al Señor, confiaos a él, y no os faltará la recompensa.
9 You who fear the Lord, hope for those good gifts of his, everlasting joy and mercy.	9 Los que teméis al Señor, esperad bienes, contento eterno y misericordia.
10 Look at the generations of old and see: whoever trusted in the Lord and was put to shame? Orwhoever, steadfastly fearing him, was forsaken? Or whoever cal ed to him and was ignored?	10 Mirad a las generaciones de antaño y ved: ¿Quién se confió al Señor y quedó confundido? ¿Quién perseveró en su temor y quedó abandonado? ¿Quién le invocó y fue desatendido?
11 For the Lord is compassionate and merciful, he forgives sins and saves in the time of distress.	11 Que el Señor es compasivo y misericordioso, perdona los pecados y salva en la hora de la tribulación.
12 Woe to faint hearts and listless hands, and to the sinner who treads two paths.	12 ¡Ay de los corazones flacos y las manos caídas, del pecador que va por senda doble!
13 Woe to the listless heart that has no faith, for such will have no protection.	13 ¡Ay del corazón caído, que no tiene confianza! por eso no será protegido.
14 Woe to you who have lost the strength to endure; what will you do at the Lord's visitation?	14 ¡Ay de vosotros que perdisteis el aguante! ¿Qué vais a hacer cuando el Señor os visite?
15 Those who fear the Lord do not disdain his words, and those who love him keep his ways.	15 Los que temen al Señor no desobedecen sus palabras, los que le aman guardan sus caminos.
16 Those who fear the Lord do their best to please him, and those who love him wil find satisfaction in theLaw.	16 Los que temen al Señor buscan su agrado, los que le aman quedan llenos de su Ley.
17 Those who fear the Lord keep their hearts prepared and humble themselves in his presence.	17 Los que temen al Señor tienen corazón dispuesto, y en su presencia se humillan.
18 Let us fal into the hands of the Lord, not into any human clutches; for as his majesty is, so too is hismercy.	18 Caeremos en manos del Señor y no en manos de los hombres, pues como es su grandeza, tal su misericordia.
