Sirach 2

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 My child, if you aspire to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for an ordeal.	1 Figliuolo in entrando al servigio di Dio sta costante nella giustizia, e nel timore, e prepara l'anima tua alla tentazione.
2 Be sincere of heart, be steadfast, and do not be alarmed when disaster comes.	2 Umilia il cuor tuo, e sopporta, porgi l'orecchio, e accogli i saggi consigli, e non ti agitare nel tempo della oscurità.
3 Cling to him and do not leave him, so that you may be honoured at the end of your days.	3 Aspetta in pazienza quel, che aspetti da Dio: sta unito con Dio, ed aspetta, affinché in appresso sia più prospera la tua vita.
4 Whatever happens to you, accept it, and in the uncertainties of your humble state, be patient,	4 Ricevi tutto quello, che ti è mandato, e nel dolore soffri costantemente, e prendi in pazienza la tua umiliazione:
5 since gold is tested in the fire, and the chosen in the furnace of humiliation.	5 Perocché col fuoco si fa saggio dell'oro, e dell'argento; e degli uomini accettevoli nella fornace dell'umiliazione.
6 Trust him and he wil uphold you, fol ow a straight path and hope in him.	6 Confida in Dio, ed egli ti trarrà in salvo; e addirizza la tua via, e spera in lui. Conserva il suo timore, e in esso invecchia.
7 You who fear the Lord, wait for his mercy; do not turn aside, for fear you fal .	7 Voi, che temete il Signore, aspettate in pazienza la sua misericordia, e non vi staccate da lui per non cadere.
8 You who fear the Lord, trust him, and you will not be robbed of your reward.	8 Voi, che temete il Signore, credete a lui, e non sarà perduta la vostra mercede.
9 You who fear the Lord, hope for those good gifts of his, everlasting joy and mercy.	9 Voi, che temete il Signore, sperate in lui, e la misericordia verrà a racconsolarvi.
10 Look at the generations of old and see: whoever trusted in the Lord and was put to shame? Orwhoever, steadfastly fearing him, was forsaken? Or whoever cal ed to him and was ignored?	10 Voi, che temete il Signore, amatelo, e la luce verrà a' vostri cuori.
11 For the Lord is compassionate and merciful, he forgives sins and saves in the time of distress.	11 Figliuoli mirate le generazioni degli uomini, e sappiate, che nissuno sperò nel Signore, e rimase confuso:
12 Woe to faint hearts and listless hands, and to the sinner who treads two paths.	12 Imperocché chi è mai, che sia stato costante ne' comandamenti di lui, e sia stato abbandonato? E chi mai lo invocò, che sia stato sprezzato?
13 Woe to the listless heart that has no faith, for such will have no protection.	13 Perocché Dio è benigno, e misericordioso, e nel dì della tribolazione rimette i peccati, ed è protettore di tutti quelli, che lui cercano con verità.
14 Woe to you who have lost the strength to endure; what will you do at the Lord's visitation?	14 Guai al cuore doppio, e alle labbra scellerate, e alle mani malfattrici, e al peccatore che per due strade cammina sopra la terra.
15 Those who fear the Lord do not disdain his words, and those who love him keep his ways.	15 Guai a quelli, che son fiacchi di cuore, che non credono a Dio; e per questo non saran protetti da lui.
16 Those who fear the Lord do their best to please him, and those who love him wil find satisfaction in theLaw.	16 Guai a quelli, che perdono la tolleranza, e abbandonano le vie rette, e vanno a prendere le vie storte.
17 Those who fear the Lord keep their hearts prepared and humble themselves in his presence.	17 E che farann' eglino, allorché il Signore principierà a far giudizio?
18 Let us fal into the hands of the Lord, not into any human clutches; for as his majesty is, so too is hismercy.	18 Quelli, che temono il Signore, non saranno disubbidienti alla sua parola, e quelli, che lo amano, la via di lui seguiranno costantemente.
	19 Quelli, che temono il Signore, studieranno quello, che sia grato a lui, e que' che lo amano saranno ripieni della sua legge.
	20 Quei, che temono il Signore, prepareranno i loro cuori, o nel cospetto di lui santificheranno le anime loro.
	21 Que' che temono il Signore, osservano i suoi comandamenti, e conserveranno la pazienza fino al dì della visita;
	22 E diranno: se noi non farem penitenza, caderem nelle mani del Signore, e non nelle mani degli uomini;
	23 Perocché quanto egli è grande, altrettanto egli è misericordioso.
