Sirach 2

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 My child, if you aspire to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for an ordeal.	1 Figliuolo, entrando al servizio di Dio, sta' saldo nella giustizia e nel timore e prepara l'anima tua alla tentazione.
2 Be sincere of heart, be steadfast, and do not be alarmed when disaster comes.	2 Umilia [e drizza] il tuo cuore ed abbi costanza, china l'orecchio e accogli le sagge parole nè aver furia al sopraggiunger della prova.
3 Cling to him and do not leave him, so that you may be honoured at the end of your days.	3 Sopporta quel che Dio ti fa sopportare, stringiti a lui e sta' saldo, affinchè cresca [e prosperi] alla fine la tua vita.
4 Whatever happens to you, accept it, and in the uncertainties of your humble state, be patient,	4 Tutto quello che ti capita accettalo, e nel dolore soffri da forte, nell'umiliazione abbi pazienza.
5 since gold is tested in the fire, and the chosen in the furnace of humiliation.	5 Perchè nel fuoco si saggia l'oro e l'argento, e gli uomini accetti nel crogiuolo dell'umiliazione.
6 Trust him and he wil uphold you, fol ow a straight path and hope in him.	6 Confida in lui e verrà in tuo aiuto, raddrizza le tue vie e spera in lui: conserva il tuo timore e invecchia in esso.
7 You who fear the Lord, wait for his mercy; do not turn aside, for fear you fal .	7 Voi che temete il Signore, aspettate [fiduciosi] la sua misericordia, e non vi scostate da lui per non cadere.
8 You who fear the Lord, trust him, and you will not be robbed of your reward.	8 Voi che temete il Signore, confidate in lui, e non andrà perduta la vostra ricompensa.
9 You who fear the Lord, hope for those good gifts of his, everlasting joy and mercy.	9 Voi che temete il Signore, sperate in lui, e a consolarvi verrà su voi la misericordia.
10 Look at the generations of old and see: whoever trusted in the Lord and was put to shame? Orwhoever, steadfastly fearing him, was forsaken? Or whoever cal ed to him and was ignored?	10 Voi che temete il Signore, amatelo, e saranno illuminati i vostri cuori.
11 For the Lord is compassionate and merciful, he forgives sins and saves in the time of distress.	11 Mirate, o figliuoli, le generazioni [antiche] degli uomini, e sappiate che niuno [mai] sperò nel Signore e fu confuso.
12 Woe to faint hearts and listless hands, and to the sinner who treads two paths.	12 Chi perseverò ne' suoi comandamenti e fu abbandonato? chi l'invocò e fu disprezzato?
13 Woe to the listless heart that has no faith, for such will have no protection.	13 Perchè pietoso e compassionevole è il Signore, e rimette i peccati [e salva] nel tempo della tribolazione, ed è il protettore di quanti lo cercano con sincerità.
14 Woe to you who have lost the strength to endure; what will you do at the Lord's visitation?	14 Guai al cuor doppio e alle labbra scellerate e alle mani malfattrici, e al peccatore che cammina sulla terra per due vie.
15 Those who fear the Lord do not disdain his words, and those who love him keep his ways.	15 Gual al rilassati di cuore che non han fede in Dio: perciò non saran protetti da lui.
16 Those who fear the Lord do their best to please him, and those who love him wil find satisfaction in theLaw.	16 Guai a coloro che han perduto la pazienza, e hanno abbandonato le vie diritte per inoltrarsi in vie tortuose:
17 Those who fear the Lord keep their hearts prepared and humble themselves in his presence.	17 che faranno essi, quando li visiterà il Signore?
18 Let us fal into the hands of the Lord, not into any human clutches; for as his majesty is, so too is hismercy.	18 Quei che temono il Signore, non saran restii alle sue parole, e quei che l'amano, custodiranno le sue vie.
	19 Quei che temono il Signore, cercheranno il suo beneplacito, e quei che l'amano, si satolleranno della sua legge.
	20 Quei che temono il Signore, prepareranno i loro cuori, e al suo cospetto [umilieranno e] santificheranno le loro anime.
	21 Quei che temono il Signore, osservano i suoi comandamenti, e han pazienza sino alla sua visita,
	22 dicendo: « Se non faremo penitenza, cadremo nelle mani del Signore, e non in quelle degli uomini ».
	23 Perchè quanta è la sua magnificenza, altrettanta la sua misericordia.
