Sirach 2

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 My child, if you aspire to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for an ordeal.	1 Figlio, se ti presenti per servire il Signore, prepàrati alla tentazione.
2 Be sincere of heart, be steadfast, and do not be alarmed when disaster comes.	2 Abbi un cuore retto e sii costante, non ti smarrire nel tempo della prova.
3 Cling to him and do not leave him, so that you may be honoured at the end of your days.	3 Stai unito a lui senza separartene, perché tu sia esaltato nei tuoi ultimi giorni.
4 Whatever happens to you, accept it, and in the uncertainties of your humble state, be patient,	4 Accetta quanto ti capita e sii paziente nelle vicende dolorose,
5 since gold is tested in the fire, and the chosen in the furnace of humiliation.	5 perché l’oro si prova con il fuoco e gli uomini ben accetti nel crogiuolo del dolore. Nelle malattie e nella povertà confida in lui.
6 Trust him and he wil uphold you, fol ow a straight path and hope in him.	6 Affìdati a lui ed egli ti aiuterà, raddrizza le tue vie e spera in lui.
7 You who fear the Lord, wait for his mercy; do not turn aside, for fear you fal .	7 Voi che temete il Signore, aspettate la sua misericordia e non deviate, per non cadere.
8 You who fear the Lord, trust him, and you will not be robbed of your reward.	8 Voi che temete il Signore, confidate in lui, e la vostra ricompensa non verrà meno.
9 You who fear the Lord, hope for those good gifts of his, everlasting joy and mercy.	9 Voi che temete il Signore, sperate nei suoi benefici, nella felicità eterna e nella misericordia, poiché la sua ricompensa è un dono eterno e gioioso.
10 Look at the generations of old and see: whoever trusted in the Lord and was put to shame? Orwhoever, steadfastly fearing him, was forsaken? Or whoever cal ed to him and was ignored?	10 Considerate le generazioni passate e riflettete: chi ha confidato nel Signore ed è rimasto deluso? O chi ha perseverato nel suo timore e fu abbandonato? O chi lo ha invocato e da lui è stato trascurato?
11 For the Lord is compassionate and merciful, he forgives sins and saves in the time of distress.	11 Perché il Signore è clemente e misericordioso, perdona i peccati e salva al momento della tribolazione.
12 Woe to faint hearts and listless hands, and to the sinner who treads two paths.	12 Guai ai cuori pavidi e alle mani indolenti e al peccatore che cammina su due strade!
13 Woe to the listless heart that has no faith, for such will have no protection.	13 Guai al cuore indolente che non ha fede, perché non avrà protezione.
14 Woe to you who have lost the strength to endure; what will you do at the Lord's visitation?	14 Guai a voi che avete perduto la perseveranza: che cosa farete quando il Signore verrà a visitarvi?
15 Those who fear the Lord do not disdain his words, and those who love him keep his ways.	15 Quelli che temono il Signore non disobbediscono alle sue parole, quelli che lo amano seguono le sue vie.
16 Those who fear the Lord do their best to please him, and those who love him wil find satisfaction in theLaw.	16 Quelli che temono il Signore cercano di piacergli, quelli che lo amano si saziano della legge.
17 Those who fear the Lord keep their hearts prepared and humble themselves in his presence.	17 Quelli che temono il Signore tengono pronti i loro cuori e si umiliano al suo cospetto.
18 Let us fal into the hands of the Lord, not into any human clutches; for as his majesty is, so too is hismercy.	18 «Gettiamoci nelle mani del Signore e non in quelle degli uomini; poiché come è la sua grandezza, così è anche la sua misericordia».
