1 Listen then, kings, and understand; rulers of remotest lands, take warning;	1 La sapienza vai più della for­za e l'uomo prudente più del va­loroso.
2 hear this, you who govern great populations, taking pride in your hosts of subject nations!	2 State attenti adunque, o re, e intendetela, imparate, voi che governate la terra.
3 For sovereignty is given to you by the Lord and power by the Most High, who will himself probe youracts and scrutinise your intentions.	3 Porgete l'orecchio, voi che dominate le moltitudini e vi vantate d'aver folle di popoli.
4 If therefore, as servants of his kingdom, you have not ruled justly nor observed the law, nor fol owed thewil of God,	4 Il potere è stato dato a voi dal Signore, la forza dall'Altissimo, il quale esamine­rà le vostre opere e scruterà le vostre intenzioni.
5 he wil fal on you swiftly and terribly. On the highly placed a ruthless judgement falls;	5 Se, essendo ministri del regno di lui, non go­vernaste rettamente, non osser­ vaste la legge di giustizia, non camminaste secondo la volontà di Dio,
6 the lowly are pardoned, out of pity, but the mighty wil be mightily tormented.	6 con spavento vi avve­dreste ben presto che rigorosissi­mo sarà il giudizio di quelli che comandano.
7 For the Lord of al does not cower before anyone, he does not stand in awe of greatness, since hehimself has made small and great and provides for al alike;	7 Ai piccoli sarà usata misericordia, ma i potenti saranno potentemente tormen­tati;
8 but a searching trial awaits those who wield power.	8 perchè Dio non è accetta­tone di persone e non ha riguar­do alla grandezza di nessuno: Egli ha fatto il piccolo e il grande ed ha ugualmente cura di tutti.
9 So, monarchs, my words are meant for you, so that you may learn wisdom and not fal into error;	9 Ai potenti dunque è riserbato maggiore supplizio.
10 for those who in holiness observe holy things will be adjudged holy, and, accepting instruction fromthem, wil find their defence in them.	10 A voi dunque, o re, son dirette le mie pa­role, affinchè impariate la sapien­za e non precipitiate.
11 Set your heart, therefore, on what I have to say, listen with a wil , and you wil be instructed.	11 Quelli che avran fatto con giustizia le cose giuste saran giu­stificati e quelli che avranno ap­prese queste cose troveran come rispondere.
12 Wisdom is bril iant, she never fades. By those who love her, she is readily seen, by those who seekher, she is readily found.	12 Bramate adunque i miei discorsi, teneteli cari e pos­sederete la disciplina.
13 She anticipates those who desire her by making herself known first.	13 La sapienza è luminosa, in­corruttibile, ed è veduta facil­mente da quelli che l'amano, ed è trovata da quelli che la cer­cano.
14 Whoever gets up early to seek her will have no trouble but wil find her sitting at the door.	14 Essa previene quelli che la bramano, da esser la prima a mostrarsi.
15 Meditating on her is understanding in its perfect form, and anyone keeping awake for her will soon befree from care.	15 Chi dal principio del giorno veglierà per lei non avrà da, stancarsi, perchè la troverà a sedere alla sua porta.
16 For she herself searches everywhere for those who are worthy of her, benevolently appearing to them on their ways, anticipating their every thought.	16 Pensar dunque ad essa è perfetta pru­denza, e chi veglierà per lei ben presto sarà tranquillo.
17 For Wisdom begins with the sincere desire for instruction, care for instruction means loving her,	17 Perchè essa va attorno a cercare chi è de­gno di lei, e per le strade si mostra loro benigna, e con ogni sol­lecitudine va loro incontro.
18 loving her means keeping her laws, attention to her laws guarantees incorruptibility,	18 Principio della sapienza è il sincero desiderio d'istruirsi.
19 and incorruptibility brings us near to God;	19 Dunque la premura d'istruirsi è amo­re, l'amore è osservanza delle sue leggi, l'osservanza delle leggi ò la purezza perfetta.
20 the desire for Wisdom thus leads to sovereignty.	20 Or la purezza avvicina a Dio.
21 If then thrones and sceptres delight you, monarchs of the nations, honour Wisdom, so that you mayreign for ever.	21 Così il desiderio della, sapienza conduce al regno eterno.
22 What Wisdom is and how she was born, I shal now explain; I shal hide no mysteries from you, butshall fol ow her steps from the outset of her origin, setting out what we know of her in ful light, without departingfrom the truth.	22 Se dunque vi piacciono i regni e gli scettri, o re dei popoli, amate la sapienza per regnare in perpetuo.
23 Blighting envy is no companion for me, for envy has nothing in common with Wisdom.	23 Amate la luce della sapienza, voi che siete a capo dei popoli.
24 In the greatest number of the wise lies the world's salvation, in a sagacious king the stability of apeople.	24 Io vi dirò che cosa sia la sapienza e come sia nata; non vi terrò nascosti i misteri di Dio, anzi la ricercherò fin dalla sua prima origine, metterò in luce la sua scienza, e non tacerò la verità.
25 Learn, therefore, from my words; the gain will be yours.	25 Non mi farò compagno di chi è roso dall'invidia, perchè un uomo di tal genere non ha che far colla sapienza.
	26 La moltitudi­ne dei sapienti, è la salute del mondo, e il re saggio è il sostegno del suo popolo.
	27 Ricevete adun­que l'istruzione per mezzo delle mie parole, e ne avrete dei van­taggi.
