1 Listen then, kings, and understand; rulers of remotest lands, take warning;	1 Val più in sapienza, che la robustezza, e l'uomo prudente val più, che il valoroso.
2 hear this, you who govern great populations, taking pride in your hosts of subject nations!	2 Udite pertanto voi, o re, e ponete mente: imparate voi, che giudicate tutta la terra.
3 For sovereignty is given to you by the Lord and power by the Most High, who will himself probe youracts and scrutinise your intentions.	3 Porgete le orecchie voi, che avete il governo de' popoli, e vi gloriate di aver soggette le molte nazioni:
4 If therefore, as servants of his kingdom, you have not ruled justly nor observed the law, nor fol owed thewil of God,	4 La potestà è stata data a voi dal Signore, e la dominazione dall'Altissimo; il quale disaminerà le opere vostre, e sarà scrutator de' pensieri.
5 he wil fal on you swiftly and terribly. On the highly placed a ruthless judgement falls;	5 Perchè essendo voi ministri del suo Regno non avete giudicato con rettitudine, e non avete osservata la legge di giustizia, e non avete camminato secondo la volontà di Dio.
6 the lowly are pardoned, out of pity, but the mighty wil be mightily tormented.	6 Con orrore vi avvedrete ben presto, come giudizio rigorosissimo si farà di quei, che sovrastano.
7 For the Lord of al does not cower before anyone, he does not stand in awe of greatness, since hehimself has made small and great and provides for al alike;	7 Imperocché co' piccoli si userà compassione; ma i grandi soffriranno grandi tormenti.
8 but a searching trial awaits those who wield power.	8 Perocché non darà esenzione a chicchessia Iddio dominatore di tutti gli uomini, e non avrà riguardo alla grandezza di alcuno; perché egli è, che fece il piccolo, e il grande, ed egli ha egual cura di tutti.
9 So, monarchs, my words are meant for you, so that you may learn wisdom and not fal into error;	9 Ma ai maggiori maggior supplizio sovrasta.
10 for those who in holiness observe holy things will be adjudged holy, and, accepting instruction fromthem, wil find their defence in them.	10 A voi dunque, o regi, sono in diritte le mie parole, affinchè appariate saggezza, e non venghiate a cadere.
11 Set your heart, therefore, on what I have to say, listen with a wil , and you wil be instructed.	11 Imperocché quelli, che avran fatte giustamente le opere giuste, saranno giustiticati; e quelli, che avranno apprese queste cose, troveranno come difendersi.
12 Wisdom is bril iant, she never fades. By those who love her, she is readily seen, by those who seekher, she is readily found.	12 Bramate pertanto li miei insegnamenti; teneteli cari, e sarete istruiti.
13 She anticipates those who desire her by making herself known first.	13 Luminosa, ed immarcessibile ell'è la saggezza, ed è facilmente veduta da quei, che l'amano, ed è trovata da quei, che la cercano.
14 Whoever gets up early to seek her will have no trouble but wil find her sitting at the door.	14 Ella previene color, che la bramano, ed ella la prima ad essi si fa vedere.
15 Meditating on her is understanding in its perfect form, and anyone keeping awake for her will soon befree from care.	15 Chi di gran mattino anderà in cerca di lei, non avrà da stancarsi; perocché la troverà assisa alla sua porta.
16 For she herself searches everywhere for those who are worthy of her, benevolently appearing to them on their ways, anticipating their every thought.	16 L'averla poi presente al pensiero è perfetta prudenza, e chi per amor di lei veglierà, ben presto sarà tranquillo;
17 For Wisdom begins with the sincere desire for instruction, care for instruction means loving her,	17 Perocché ella va attorno cercando chi è degno di lei, e pelle strade ad essi dolcemente si mostra, e con ogni sollecitudine va incontro ad essi.
18 loving her means keeping her laws, attention to her laws guarantees incorruptibility,	18 Perocché il principio di lei egli è un sincerissimo amore della disciplina.
19 and incorruptibility brings us near to God;	19 La brama adunque della disciplina è dilezione; e la dilezione è la osservanza delle sue leggi: è l'osservanza delle sue leggi è la purezza perfetta:
20 the desire for Wisdom thus leads to sovereignty.	20 E la purezza fa, che uno a Dio si avvicina.
21 If then thrones and sceptres delight you, monarchs of the nations, honour Wisdom, so that you mayreign for ever.	21 Cosi l'amore della sapienza al regno eterno conduce.
22 What Wisdom is and how she was born, I shal now explain; I shal hide no mysteries from you, butshall fol ow her steps from the outset of her origin, setting out what we know of her in ful light, without departingfrom the truth.	22 Se adunque vi compiacete de' troni, e degli scettri, o regi delle nazioni, amate la sapienza, affin di regnare per sempre.
23 Blighting envy is no companion for me, for envy has nothing in common with Wisdom.	23 Aiuute la luce della sapienza tutti voi, che siete al governo de' popoli:
24 In the greatest number of the wise lies the world's salvation, in a sagacious king the stability of apeople.	24 Or io vi dirò quel, che sia la sapienza, e come ella sia nata, e a voi non celerò i misterj di Dio; ma anderò investigando la sua prima origine, e di lei darò chiara notizia senza occultare la verità:
25 Learn, therefore, from my words; the gain will be yours.	25 Nè io mi farò compagno di chi si strugge, d'invidia, perché un tal uomo non sarà a parte della sapienza.
	26 Or la moltitudine de' sapienti salute del mondo, e il saggio re è fermo sostegno del popolo.
	27 Apparate adunque dalle mie parole la disciplina, ed ella sarà utile a voi.
