NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Listen then, kings, and understand; rulers of remotest lands, take warning;	1 Ascoltate, dunque, o re, e vogliate comprendere! Imparate, o governanti delle regioni della terra!
2 hear this, you who govern great populations, taking pride in your hosts of subject nations!	2 Porgete orecchio, voi che dominate le moltitudini e siete orgogliosi delle folle di popoli:
3 For sovereignty is given to you by the Lord and power by the Most High, who will himself probe youracts and scrutinise your intentions.	3 Dal Signore vi è stato dato il dominio e il potere dall'Altissimo, il quale esaminerà le vostre opere e scruterà i piani,
4 If therefore, as servants of his kingdom, you have not ruled justly nor observed the law, nor fol owed thewil of God,	4 poiché, essendo ministri del suo regno, non avete governato rettamente, né avete osservato la legge, né avete camminato secondo il volere di Dio.
5 he wil fal on you swiftly and terribly. On the highly placed a ruthless judgement falls;	5 Terribile e veloce si ergerà contro di voi, poiché un severo giudizio si fa contro chi presiede.
6 the lowly are pardoned, out of pity, but the mighty wil be mightily tormented.	6 Senza dubbio l'inferiore è meritevole di misericordia, ma i potenti saranno esaminati con rigore.
7 For the Lord of al does not cower before anyone, he does not stand in awe of greatness, since hehimself has made small and great and provides for al alike;	7 Il padrone di tutte le cose non teme persona, né si preoccupa della grandezza, perché egli ha fatto il piccolo come il grande e si prende cura ugualmente di tutti;
8 but a searching trial awaits those who wield power.	8 ma su quanti dominano incombe un giudizio severo.
9 So, monarchs, my words are meant for you, so that you may learn wisdom and not fal into error;	9 Per voi, dunque, o prìncipi, sono le mie parole, perché impariate la sapienza e non possiate prevaricare.
10 for those who in holiness observe holy things will be adjudged holy, and, accepting instruction fromthem, wil find their defence in them.	10 Quanti osservano santamente le leggi divine, saranno riconosciuti santi, e quanti le avranno apprese vi troveranno una difesa.
11 Set your heart, therefore, on what I have to say, listen with a wil , and you wil be instructed.	11 Desiderate, pertanto, le mie parole, bramatele e sarete istruiti.
12 Wisdom is bril iant, she never fades. By those who love her, she is readily seen, by those who seekher, she is readily found.	12 Splendida e incorruttibile è la sapienza, facilmente è conosciuta da quanti l'amano e si lascia trovare da quanti la cercano.
13 She anticipates those who desire her by making herself known first.	13 Per farsi riconoscere previene quanti la desiderano.
14 Whoever gets up early to seek her will have no trouble but wil find her sitting at the door.	14 Chi si leva per essa di buon mattino non dovrà faticare, perché la troverà seduta alla sua porta.
15 Meditating on her is understanding in its perfect form, and anyone keeping awake for her will soon befree from care.	15 Pensare ad essa è suprema intelligenza, e chi veglia per lei sarà presto senza pena;
16 For she herself searches everywhere for those who are worthy of her, benevolently appearing to them on their ways, anticipating their every thought.	16 perché essa va in cerca di quanti sono degni di lei, nelle strade appare loro con benevolenza e in ogni progetto va loro incontro.
17 For Wisdom begins with the sincere desire for instruction, care for instruction means loving her,	17 Suo principio è un sincero desiderio di educazione;
18 loving her means keeping her laws, attention to her laws guarantees incorruptibility,	18 la cura dell'educazione è amore; l'amore è osservanza delle sue leggi; il rispetto delle sue leggi è garanzia di incorruttibilità,
19 and incorruptibility brings us near to God;	19 e l'incorruttibilità ci fa stare vicini a Dio;
20 the desire for Wisdom thus leads to sovereignty.	20 così il desiderio di sapienza conduce al regno.
21 If then thrones and sceptres delight you, monarchs of the nations, honour Wisdom, so that you mayreign for ever.	21 Se dunque, prìncipi dei popoli, vi dilettate di troni e di scettri, onorate la sapienza, perché possiate regnare in eterno.
22 What Wisdom is and how she was born, I shal now explain; I shal hide no mysteries from you, butshall fol ow her steps from the outset of her origin, setting out what we know of her in ful light, without departingfrom the truth.	22 Annunzierò che cos'è la sapienza e come nacque, non vi nasconderò i misteri, ma dal principio della creazione ne seguirò le orme, metterò in luce la sua conoscenza e non mi allontanerò dalla verità.
23 Blighting envy is no companion for me, for envy has nothing in common with Wisdom.	23 Non mi accompagnerò con la struggente invidia, poiché essa non ha niente in comune con la sapienza.
24 In the greatest number of the wise lies the world's salvation, in a sagacious king the stability of apeople.	24 La moltitudine dei sapienti è la salvezza del mondo e un re saggio è la prosperità del popolo.
25 Learn, therefore, from my words; the gain will be yours.	25 Lasciatevi dunque istruire dalle mie parole e ne trarrete profitto.
