NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Listen then, kings, and understand; rulers of remotest lands, take warning;	1 Ouvi, pois, ó reis, e entendei; aprendei vós que governais o universo!
2 hear this, you who govern great populations, taking pride in your hosts of subject nations!	2 Prestai ouvidos, vós que reinais sobre as nações e vos gloriais do número de vossos povos!
3 For sovereignty is given to you by the Lord and power by the Most High, who will himself probe youracts and scrutinise your intentions.	3 Porque é do Senhor que recebestes o poder, e é do Altíssimo que tendes o poderio; é ele que examinará vossas obras e sondará vossos pensamentos!
4 If therefore, as servants of his kingdom, you have not ruled justly nor observed the law, nor fol owed thewil of God,	4 Se, ministros do reino, vós não julgastes eqüitativamente, nem observastes a lei, nem andastes segundo a vontade de Deus,
5 he wil fal on you swiftly and terribly. On the highly placed a ruthless judgement falls;	5 ele se apresentará a vós, terrível, inesperado, porque aqueles que dominam serão rigorosamente julgados.
6 the lowly are pardoned, out of pity, but the mighty wil be mightily tormented.	6 Ao menor, com efeito, a compaixão atrai o perdão, mas os poderosos serão examinados sem piedade.
7 For the Lord of al does not cower before anyone, he does not stand in awe of greatness, since hehimself has made small and great and provides for al alike;	7 O Senhor de todos não fará exceção para ninguém, e não se deixará impor pela grandeza, porque, pequenos ou grandes, é ele que a todos criou, e de todos cuida igualmente;
8 but a searching trial awaits those who wield power.	8 mas para os poderosos o julgamento será severo.
9 So, monarchs, my words are meant for you, so that you may learn wisdom and not fal into error;	9 É a vós, pois, ó príncipes, que me dirijo, para que aprendais a Sabedoria e não resvaleis,
10 for those who in holiness observe holy things will be adjudged holy, and, accepting instruction fromthem, wil find their defence in them.	10 porque aqueles que santamente observarem as santas leis serão santificados, e os que as tiverem estudado poderão justificar-se.
11 Set your heart, therefore, on what I have to say, listen with a wil , and you wil be instructed.	11 Anelai, pois, pelas minhas palavras, reclamai-as ardentemente e sereis instruídos.
12 Wisdom is bril iant, she never fades. By those who love her, she is readily seen, by those who seekher, she is readily found.	12 Resplandescente é a Sabedoria, e sua beleza é inalterável: os que a amam, descobrem-na facilmente.
13 She anticipates those who desire her by making herself known first.	13 Os que a procuram encontram-na. Ela antecipa-se aos que a desejam.
14 Whoever gets up early to seek her will have no trouble but wil find her sitting at the door.	14 Quem, para possuí-la, levanta-se de madrugada, não terá trabalho, porque a encontrará sentada à sua porta.
15 Meditating on her is understanding in its perfect form, and anyone keeping awake for her will soon befree from care.	15 Fazê-la objeto de seus pensamentos é a prudência perfeita, e quem por ela vigia, em breve não terá mais cuidado.
16 For she herself searches everywhere for those who are worthy of her, benevolently appearing to them on their ways, anticipating their every thought.	16 Ela mesma vai à procura dos que são dignos dela; ela lhes aparece nos caminhos cheia de benevolência, e vai ao encontro deles em todos os seus pensamentos,
17 For Wisdom begins with the sincere desire for instruction, care for instruction means loving her,	17 porque, verdadeiramente, desde o começo, seu desejo é instruir, e desejar instruir-se é amá-la.
18 loving her means keeping her laws, attention to her laws guarantees incorruptibility,	18 Mas amá-la é obedecer às suas leis, e obedecer às suas leis é a garantia da imortalidade.
19 and incorruptibility brings us near to God;	19 Ora, a imortalidade faz habitar junto de Deus;
20 the desire for Wisdom thus leads to sovereignty.	20 assim o desejo da Sabedoria conduz ao Reino!
21 If then thrones and sceptres delight you, monarchs of the nations, honour Wisdom, so that you mayreign for ever.	21 Se, pois, cetros e tronos vos agradam, ó vós que governais os povos, honrai a Sabedoria, e reinareis eternamente.
22 What Wisdom is and how she was born, I shal now explain; I shal hide no mysteries from you, butshall fol ow her steps from the outset of her origin, setting out what we know of her in ful light, without departingfrom the truth.	22 Mas eu vou dizer o que é a Sabedoria e como ela nasceu. Não vos esconderei os seus mistérios; mas investigá-la-ei até sua mais remota origem; porei à luz o que dela pode ser conhecido, e não me afastarei da verdade.
23 Blighting envy is no companion for me, for envy has nothing in common with Wisdom.	23 Não imitarei aquele a quem a inveja consome, porque esse tal não tem nada a ver com a Sabedoria: 24. é no grande número de sábios que se encontra a salvação do mundo, e um rei sensato faz a prosperidade de seu povo.
24 In the greatest number of the wise lies the world's salvation, in a sagacious king the stability of apeople.
25 Learn, therefore, from my words; the gain will be yours.	25 Deixai-vos, pois, instruir por minhas palavras, e nelas encontrareis grande proveito.
