Proverbs 29

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Whoever is stiff-necked under reproof wil be suddenly and irremediably broken.	1 O homem que, apesar das admoestações, se obstina será logo irremediavelmente arruinado.
2 When the upright are on the increase, the people rejoice; when the wicked are in power, the peoplegroan.	2 Quando dominam os justos, alegra-se o povo; quando governa o ímpio, o povo geme.
3 The lover of Wisdom makes his father glad, but the patron of prostitutes fritters his wealth away.	3 Quem ama a sabedoria alegra seu pai; o que freqüenta as prostitutas dissipa sua fortuna.
4 A king gives a country stability by justice, an extortioner brings it to ruin.	4 É pela justiça que um rei firma seu país, mas aquele que o sobrecarrega com muitos impostos, o arruína.
5 Whoever flatters his companion spreads a net for his feet.	5 O homem que adula seu próximo estende redes aos seus pés.
6 In the sin of the wicked lies a snare, but the upright exults and rejoices.	6 No delito do ímpio há um ardil, mas o justo corre alegremente.
7 The upright understands the cause of the weak, the wicked has not the wit to understand it.	7 O justo conhece a causa dos pobres; o ímpio a ignora.
8 Scoffers set a city in ferment, but the wise moderate anger.	8 Os escarnecedores ateiam fogo na cidade, mas os sábios acalmam o furor.
9 Let someone wise argue with a fool, anger and good humour alike wil be wasted.	9 Discute um sábio com um tolo? Que ele se zangue ou que ele se ria, não terá paz.
10 The bloodthirsty hate the honest, but the upright seek them out.	10 Os homens sanguinários odeiam o íntegro, mas os homens retos tomam cuidado com sua vida.
11 The fool blurts out every angry feeling, but the wise subdues and restrains them.	11 O insensato desafoga toda sua ira, mas o sábio a domina e a recalca.
12 When a ruler listens to false reports, al his ministers wil be scoundrels.	12 Quando um soberano presta atenção às mentiras, todos os seus servidores tornam-se maus.
13 Poor and oppressor are found together, Yahweh gives light to the eyes of both.	13 O pobre e o opressor se encontram: é o Senhor que ilumina os olhos de cada um.
14 The king who judges the weak with equity sees his throne set firm for ever.	14 Um rei que julga com eqüidade os humildes terá seu trono firmado para sempre.
15 The stick and the reprimand bestow wisdom, a young man left to himself brings shame on his mother.	15 Vara e correção dão a sabedoria; menino abandonado à sua vontade se torna a vergonha da mãe.
16 When the wicked are on the increase, sin multiplies, but the upright wil witness their downfal .	16 Quando se multiplicam os ímpios, multiplica-se o crime, mas os justos contemplarão sua queda.
17 Correct your child, and he wil give you peace of mind; he will delight your soul.	17 Corrige teu filho e ele te dará repouso e será as delícias de tua vida.
18 Where there is no vision the people get out of hand; happy are they who keep the law.	18 Por falta de visão, o povo vive sem freios; ditoso o que observa a instrução!
19 Not by words is a slave corrected: even if he understands, he will take no notice.	19 Não é com palavras que se corrige um escravo, porque ele compreende, mas não se atém a elas.
20 You see someone too ready of speech? There is more to be hoped for from a fool!	20 Viste um homem precipitado no falar: há mais esperança num tolo do que nele.
21 If a slave is pampered from childhood, he wil prove ungrateful in the end.	21 Um escravo mimado desde sua juventude, acaba por se tornar desobediente.
22 The hot-head provokes disputes, someone in a rage commits al sorts of sins.	22 Um homem irascível excita contendas; o colérico acumula as faltas.
23 Pride brings humiliation, whoever humbles himself will win honour.	23 O orgulho de um homem leva-o à humilhação, mas o humilde de espírito obtém a glória.
24 To hear the curse and disclose nothing is to share with the thief and to hate oneself.	24 Quem partilha com o ladrão, odeia-se a si mesmo; ouve a maldição e nada denuncia.
25 To be afraid of human beings is a snare, whoever trusts in Yahweh is secure.	25 O temor dos homens prepara um laço, mas quem confia no Senhor permanece seguro.
26 Many people seek a ruler's favour, but the rights of each come from Yahweh.	26 Muitos buscam o favor dum príncipe, mas é do Senhor que cada homem alcança justiça
27 Abhorrent to the upright is the sinful, abhorrent to the wicked is one whose way is straight.	27 O homem iníquo é abominado pelos justos; o ímpio abomina aquele que anda pelo caminho certo.
