Proverbs 24

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Do not be envious of the wicked or wish for their company,	1 Não invejes os maus, nem desejes estar com eles,
2 for their hearts are scheming violence, their lips talking mischief.	2 porque seus corações maquinam a violência e seus lábios só proclamam a iniqüidade.
3 By wisdom a house is built, by understanding it is made strong;	3 É com sabedoria que se constrói a casa, pela prudência ela se consolida.
4 by knowledge its storerooms are fil ed with riches of every kind, rare and desirable.	4 Pela ciência enchem-se os celeiros de todo bem precioso e agradável.
5 The wise is mighty in power, strength is reinforced by science;	5 O sábio é um homem forte, o douto é cheio de vigor.
6 for it is by strategy that you wage war, and victory depends on having many counsellors.	6 É com a prudência que empreenderás a guerra e a vitória depende de grande número de conselheiros.
7 For a fool wisdom is an inaccessible fortress: at the city gate he does not open his mouth.	7 A sabedoria é por demais sublime para o tolo; à porta da cidade, ele não abre a boca.
8 Anyone intent on evil-doing is known as a master in cunning.	8 Quem medita fazer o mal, é chamado mestre intrigante.
9 Folly dreams of nothing but sin, the mocker is abhorrent.	9 O desígnio da loucura é o pecado; e detrator é terror para os outros.
10 If you lose heart when things go wrong, your strength is not worth much.	10 Se te deixas abater no dia da adversidade, minguada é a tua força.
11 Save those being dragged towards death, but can you rescue those on their way to execution?	11 Livra os que foram entregues à morte, salva os que cambaleiam indo para o massacre.
12 If you say, 'But look, we did not know,' wil the Weigher of the heart pay no attention? Wil not theGuardian of your soul be aware and repay you as your deeds deserve?	12 Se disseres: Mas, não o sabia! Aquele que pesa os corações não o verá? Aquele que vigia tua alma não o saberá? E não retribuirá a cada qual segundo seu procedimento?
13 Eat honey, my child, since it is good; honey that drips from the comb is sweet to the taste:	13 Meu filho, come mel, pois é bom; um favo de mel é doce para teu paladar.
14 and so, for sure, wil wisdom be to your soul: find it and you will have a future and your hope wil notbe cut short.	14 Sabe, pois, que assim será a sabedoria para tua alma. Se tu a encontrares, haverá para ti um bom futuro e tua esperança não será frustrada.
15 Do not lurk, wicked man, round the upright man's dwel ing, do not despoil his house.	15 Não conspires, ó ímpio, contra a casa do justo, não destruas sua habitação!
16 For though the upright fal s seven times, he gets up again; the wicked are the ones who stumble inadversity.	16 Porque o justo cai sete vezes, mas ergue-se, enquanto os ímpios desfalecem na desgraça.
17 Should your enemy fal , do not rejoice, when he stumbles do not let your heart exult:	17 Não te alegres, se teu inimigo cair, se tropeçar, que não se rejubile teu coração,
18 for fear that Yahweh wil be displeased at the sight and turn his anger away from him.	18 para não suceder que o Senhor o veja, e isto lhe desagrade, e tire de cima dele sua ira.
19 Do not be indignant about the wicked, do not be envious of the evil,	19 Não te indignes à vista dos maus, não invejes os ímpios,
20 for there is no future for the evil, the lamp of the wicked wil go out.	20 porque para o mal não há futuro e o luzeiro dos ímpios extinguir-se-á.
21 Fear Yahweh, my child, and fear the king; do not al y yourself with innovators;	21 Meu filho, teme o Senhor e o rei, não te mistures com os sediciosos,
22 for suddenly disaster wil loom for them, and who knows what ruin wil seize them and their friends?	22 porque, de repente, surgirá sua desgraça. Quem conhece a destruição de uns e de outros?
23 The fol owing are also taken from the sages: To show partiality in judgement is not good.	23 O que segue é ainda dos sábios: Não é bom mostrar-se parcial no julgamento.
24 Whoever tells the wicked, 'You are upright,' peoples curse him, nations revile him;	24 Ao que diz ao culpado: Tu és inocente, os povos o amaldiçoarão, as nações o abominarão.
25 but those who correct him, come out of it wel , on them will come a happy blessing.	25 Aqueles que sabem repreender são louvados, sobre eles cai uma chuva de bênçãos.
26 Whoever returns an honest answer, plants a kiss on the lips.	26 Dá um beijo nos lábios aquele que responde com sinceridade.
27 Plan what you want on the open ground, make your preparation in the field; then go and build yourhouse.	27 Cuida da tua tarefa de fora, aplica-te ao teu campo e depois edificarás tua habitação.
28 Do not bear witness lightly against your neighbour, nor deceive with your lips.	28 Não sejas testemunha inconsiderada contra teu próximo. Queres, acaso, que teus lábios te enganem?
29 Do not say, 'I wil treat my neighbour as my neighbour treated me; I will repay everyone what eachhas earned.'	29 Não digas: Far-lhe-ei o que me fez, pagarei a este homem segundo seus atos.
30 By the idler's field I was passing, by the vineyard of a man who had no sense,	30 Perto da terra do preguiçoso eu passei, junto à vinha de um homem insensato:
31 there it al lay, deep in thorns, entirely overgrown with weeds, and its stone wal broken down.	31 eis que, por toda a parte, cresciam abrolhos, urtigas cobriam o solo, o muro de pedra estava por terra.
32 And as I gazed I pondered, I drew this lesson from the sight,	32 Vendo isso, refleti; daquilo que havia visto, tirei esta lição:
33 'A little sleep, a little drowsiness, a little folding of the arms to lie back	33 um pouco de sono, um pouco de torpor, um pouco cruzando as mãos para descansar
34 and poverty comes like a vagrant, and, like a beggar, dearth.'	34 e virá a indigência como um vagabundo, a miséria como um homem armado!
