Proverbs 24

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Do not be envious of the wicked or wish for their company,	1 Non portare invidia agli uomini malvagi, E non desiderare di esser con loro.
2 for their hearts are scheming violence, their lips talking mischief.	2 Perciocchè il cuor loro macchina rapina, E le lor labbra parlano d’iniquità
3 By wisdom a house is built, by understanding it is made strong;	3 La casa sarà edificata per sapienza, E sarà stabilita per prudenza.
4 by knowledge its storerooms are fil ed with riches of every kind, rare and desirable.	4 E per conoscimento le camere saranno ripiene Di beni preziosi e dilettevoli, d’ogni maniera.
5 The wise is mighty in power, strength is reinforced by science;	5 L’uomo savio è forte; E l’uomo intendente è possente di forza.
6 for it is by strategy that you wage war, and victory depends on having many counsellors.	6 Perciocchè con prudenti consigli tu farai la guerra; E la salute è posta in moltitudine di consiglieri
7 For a fool wisdom is an inaccessible fortress: at the city gate he does not open his mouth.	7 Le sapienze son troppo alte per lo stolto; Egli non aprirà la bocca nella porta.
8 Anyone intent on evil-doing is known as a master in cunning.	8 Chi divisa far male Sarà chiamato uomo malizioso.
9 Folly dreams of nothing but sin, the mocker is abhorrent.	9 Il pensiero di stoltizia è peccato; E lo schernitore è l’abbominio degli uomini
10 If you lose heart when things go wrong, your strength is not worth much.	10 Se tu ti rallenti nel giorno della distretta, Le tue forze saranno corte
11 Save those being dragged towards death, but can you rescue those on their way to execution?	11 Se tu ti rattieni dal riscuoter quelli che son tratti alla morte, E quelli che stanno in forse di essere uccisi,
12 If you say, 'But look, we did not know,' wil the Weigher of the heart pay no attention? Wil not theGuardian of your soul be aware and repay you as your deeds deserve?	12 Dicendo: Ecco noi non ne sappiamo nulla; Colui che pesa i cuori non vi porrà egli mente? E il guardiano dell’anima tua non lo conoscerà egli, E non renderà egli a ciascuno secondo le sue opere?
13 Eat honey, my child, since it is good; honey that drips from the comb is sweet to the taste:	13 Figliuol mio, mangia pure del miele; Perciocchè egli è buono; E del favo del miele, che è dolce al tuo palato;
14 and so, for sure, wil wisdom be to your soul: find it and you will have a future and your hope wil notbe cut short.	14 Tal sarà la conoscenza della sapienza all’anima tua, Quando tu l’avrai trovata; e vi sarà premio, E la tua speranza non sarà troncata
15 Do not lurk, wicked man, round the upright man's dwel ing, do not despoil his house.	15 O empio, non insidiar l’abitacolo del giusto, Non guastare il suo ricetto.
16 For though the upright fal s seven times, he gets up again; the wicked are the ones who stumble inadversity.	16 Perciocchè il giusto cade sette volte, e si rileva; Ma gli empi ruinano nel male
17 Should your enemy fal , do not rejoice, when he stumbles do not let your heart exult:	17 Non rallegrarti, quando il tuo nemico sarà caduto; E quando egli sarà ruinato, il cuor tuo non ne gioisca;
18 for fear that Yahweh wil be displeased at the sight and turn his anger away from him.	18 Che talora il Signore nol vegga, e che ciò non gli dispiaccia, E ch’egli non istorni l’ira sua d’addosso a lui
19 Do not be indignant about the wicked, do not be envious of the evil,	19 Non adirarti per li maligni; Non portare invidia agli empi.
20 for there is no future for the evil, the lamp of the wicked wil go out.	20 Perciocchè non vi sarà premio alcuno per lo malvagio; La lampana degli empi sarà spenta
21 Fear Yahweh, my child, and fear the king; do not al y yourself with innovators;	21 Figliuol mio, temi il Signore e il re; Non rimescolarti co’ rapportatori.
22 for suddenly disaster wil loom for them, and who knows what ruin wil seize them and their friends?	22 Perciocchè in un momento sorgerà la loro calamità; E chi conosce la ruina procedente d’amendue loro?
23 The fol owing are also taken from the sages: To show partiality in judgement is not good.	23 Queste cose ancora son per li Savi. Ei non è bene di aver riguardo alla qualità delle persone in giudicio.
24 Whoever tells the wicked, 'You are upright,' peoples curse him, nations revile him;	24 I popoli malediranno, e le nazioni esecreranno Colui che dice all’empio: Tu sei giusto.
25 but those who correct him, come out of it wel , on them will come a happy blessing.	25 Ma quelli che lo gastigano saranno grati; E benedizione di bene verrà sopra loro.
26 Whoever returns an honest answer, plants a kiss on the lips.	26 Chi risponde parole diritte Bacia le labbra
27 Plan what you want on the open ground, make your preparation in the field; then go and build yourhouse.	27 Ordina le tue faccende fuori, E mettile in assetto ne’ tuoi campi; E poi edificherai la tua casa
28 Do not bear witness lightly against your neighbour, nor deceive with your lips.	28 Non essere testimonio contro al tuo prossimo senza cagione; E vorresti tu subornare alcuno con le tue labbra?
29 Do not say, 'I wil treat my neighbour as my neighbour treated me; I will repay everyone what eachhas earned.'	29 Non dire: Come egli ha fatto a me, così farò a lui; Io renderò a costui secondo l’opera sua
30 By the idler's field I was passing, by the vineyard of a man who had no sense,	30 Io passai già presso al campo del pigro, E presso alla vigna dell’uomo scemo di senno;
31 there it al lay, deep in thorns, entirely overgrown with weeds, and its stone wal broken down.	31 Ed ecco, amendue erano tutti montati in ortiche, I cardi ne aveano coperto il disopra, E la lor chiusura di pietre era ruinata.
32 And as I gazed I pondered, I drew this lesson from the sight,	32 Ed io, riguardando ciò, vi posi mente; Vedutolo, ne presi ammaestramento.
33 'A little sleep, a little drowsiness, a little folding of the arms to lie back	33 Dormendo un poco, sonnecchiando un poco, Piegando un poco le mani per riposare;
34 and poverty comes like a vagrant, and, like a beggar, dearth.'	34 La tua povertà verrà come un viandante, E la tua inopia come uno scudiere
