Proverbs 24

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Do not be envious of the wicked or wish for their company,	1 No tengas envidia de los malos, no desees estar con ellos,
2 for their hearts are scheming violence, their lips talking mischief.	2 porque su corazón trama violencias, y sus labios hablan de desgracias.
3 By wisdom a house is built, by understanding it is made strong;	3 Con la sabiduria se construye una casa, y con la prudencia se afianza;
4 by knowledge its storerooms are fil ed with riches of every kind, rare and desirable.	4 con la ciencia se llenan los cilleros de todo bien precioso y deseable.
5 The wise is mighty in power, strength is reinforced by science;	5 El varón sabio está fuerte, el hombre de ciencia fortalece su vigor;
6 for it is by strategy that you wage war, and victory depends on having many counsellors.	6 porque con sabios consejos harás la guerra, y en la abundancia de consejeros está el éxito.
7 For a fool wisdom is an inaccessible fortress: at the city gate he does not open his mouth.	7 Muy alta está la sabiduría para el necio: no abre su boca en la puerta.
8 Anyone intent on evil-doing is known as a master in cunning.	8 Al que piensa en hacer mal, se le llama maestro en intrigas.
9 Folly dreams of nothing but sin, the mocker is abhorrent.	9 La necedad sólo maquina pecados, el arrogante es abominable a los hombres.
10 If you lose heart when things go wrong, your strength is not worth much.	10 Si te dejas abatir el día de la angustia, angosta es tu fuerza.
11 Save those being dragged towards death, but can you rescue those on their way to execution?	11 Libra a los que son llevados a la muerte, y a los conducidos al suplicio ¡si los puedieras retener!
12 If you say, 'But look, we did not know,' wil the Weigher of the heart pay no attention? Wil not theGuardian of your soul be aware and repay you as your deeds deserve?	12 Si dices: «Mira que no lo sabíamos», ¿acaso el que pesa los corazones no comprende? ¿el que vigila tu alma, no lo sabe? El da a cada hombre según sus obras.
13 Eat honey, my child, since it is good; honey that drips from the comb is sweet to the taste:	13 Come miel, hijo mío, porque es buena. Panal de miel es dulce a tu paladar.
14 and so, for sure, wil wisdom be to your soul: find it and you will have a future and your hope wil notbe cut short.	14 Pues sábete que así será la sabiduría para tu alma, y si la hallas, hay un mañana, y tu esperanza no será aniquilada.
15 Do not lurk, wicked man, round the upright man's dwel ing, do not despoil his house.	15 No pongas, malvado, asechanzas en la mansión del justo, no hagas violencia a su morada.
16 For though the upright fal s seven times, he gets up again; the wicked are the ones who stumble inadversity.	16 Que siete veces cae el justo, pero se levanta, mientras los malos se hunden en la desgracia.
17 Should your enemy fal , do not rejoice, when he stumbles do not let your heart exult:	17 No te alegres por la caída de tu enemigo, no se goce tu corazón cuando se hunde;
18 for fear that Yahweh wil be displeased at the sight and turn his anger away from him.	18 no sea que lo vea Yahveh y le desagrade, y aparte de él su ira.
19 Do not be indignant about the wicked, do not be envious of the evil,	19 No te enfurezcas por causa de los malvados, ni tengas envidia de los malos.
20 for there is no future for the evil, the lamp of the wicked wil go out.	20 Porque para el malvado no hay un mañana: la lámpara de los malos se extinguirá.
21 Fear Yahweh, my child, and fear the king; do not al y yourself with innovators;	21 Teme, hijo mío, a Yahveh y al rey, no te relaciones con los innovadores,
22 for suddenly disaster wil loom for them, and who knows what ruin wil seize them and their friends?	22 porque al instante surgirá su calamidad, y ¿quién sabe el castigo que pueden ambos dar?
23 The fol owing are also taken from the sages: To show partiality in judgement is not good.	23 También esto pertenece a los sabios: Hacer acepción de personas en el juicio no está bien.
24 Whoever tells the wicked, 'You are upright,' peoples curse him, nations revile him;	24 Al que dice al malo: «Eres justo», le maldicen los pueblos y le detestan las naciones;
25 but those who correct him, come out of it wel , on them will come a happy blessing.	25 los que los castigan, viven felices, y viene sobre ellos la bendición del bien.
26 Whoever returns an honest answer, plants a kiss on the lips.	26 Besa en los labios, el que responde con franqueza.
27 Plan what you want on the open ground, make your preparation in the field; then go and build yourhouse.	27 Ordena tus trabajos de fuera y prepara tus faenas en el campo; y después puedes construirte tu casa.
28 Do not bear witness lightly against your neighbour, nor deceive with your lips.	28 No des testimonio, en vano, contra tu prójimo, ni engañes con tus labios.
29 Do not say, 'I wil treat my neighbour as my neighbour treated me; I will repay everyone what eachhas earned.'	29 No digas: «Como él me ha hecho a mí, le haré yo a él, daré a cada uno según sus obras».
30 By the idler's field I was passing, by the vineyard of a man who had no sense,	30 He pasado junto al campo de un perezoso, y junto a la viña de un hombre insensato,
31 there it al lay, deep in thorns, entirely overgrown with weeds, and its stone wal broken down.	31 y estaba todo invadido de ortigas, los cardos cubrían el suelo, la cerca de piedras estaba derruída.
32 And as I gazed I pondered, I drew this lesson from the sight,	32 Al verlo, medité en mi corazón, al contemplarlo aprendí la lección:
33 'A little sleep, a little drowsiness, a little folding of the arms to lie back	33 «Un poco dormir, otro poco dormitar, otro poco tumbarse con los brazos cruzados
34 and poverty comes like a vagrant, and, like a beggar, dearth.'	34 y llegará, como vagabundo, tu miseria y como un mendigo tu pobreza».
