Proverbs 24

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Do not be envious of the wicked or wish for their company,	1 No envidies a los malvados ni desees estar con ellos,
2 for their hearts are scheming violence, their lips talking mischief.	2 porque su corazón sólo trama violencia y sus labios no hablan más que de fechorías.
3 By wisdom a house is built, by understanding it is made strong;	3 Con la sabiduría se construye una casa y con la inteligencia se mantiene firme;
4 by knowledge its storerooms are fil ed with riches of every kind, rare and desirable.	4 con la ciencia se llenan las despensas de todos los bienes precios y agradables.
5 The wise is mighty in power, strength is reinforced by science;	5 Más vale un sabio que un hombre fuerte y un hombre instruido que uno muy vigoroso,
6 for it is by strategy that you wage war, and victory depends on having many counsellors.	6 porque la guerra se gana con estrategia y la victoria, con el número de consejeros.
7 For a fool wisdom is an inaccessible fortress: at the city gate he does not open his mouth.	7 La sabiduría es demasiado elevada para el necio: en la puerta de la ciudad, él no abre la boca.
8 Anyone intent on evil-doing is known as a master in cunning.	8 Al que sólo piensa en hacer el mal se lo llama maestro en malignidad.
9 Folly dreams of nothing but sin, the mocker is abhorrent.	9 La necedad no trama más que el pecado, y el insolente se hace abominable a los hombres.
10 If you lose heart when things go wrong, your strength is not worth much.	10 Si flaqueas en el día de la adversidad, ¡qué poca fuerza tienes!
11 Save those being dragged towards death, but can you rescue those on their way to execution?	11 Libra a los que son arrastrados a la muerte, salva a los que van con pasos vacilantes al suplicio.
12 If you say, 'But look, we did not know,' wil the Weigher of the heart pay no attention? Wil not theGuardian of your soul be aware and repay you as your deeds deserve?	12 Si dices: «¡Este no es asunto mío!», ¿no lo tendrá en cuenta el que pesa los corazones? Aquel que te observa lo sabrá y retribuirá a cada uno según sus obras.
13 Eat honey, my child, since it is good; honey that drips from the comb is sweet to the taste:	13 Come miel, hijo mío, porque es buena; la miel de panal es dulce a tu paladar.
14 and so, for sure, wil wisdom be to your soul: find it and you will have a future and your hope wil notbe cut short.	14 Ten presente que así es la sabiduría para tu alma: si la encuentras, tendrás un porvenir y tu esperanza no quedará defraudada.
15 Do not lurk, wicked man, round the upright man's dwel ing, do not despoil his house.	15 No aceches, malvado, la morada del justo ni despojes su vivienda,
16 For though the upright fal s seven times, he gets up again; the wicked are the ones who stumble inadversity.	16 porque el justo, aunque caiga siete veces, se levantará, mientras que los malvados se hunden en la desgracia.
17 Should your enemy fal , do not rejoice, when he stumbles do not let your heart exult:	17 Si cae tu enemigo, no te alegres, y si tropieza, no te regocijes,
18 for fear that Yahweh wil be displeased at the sight and turn his anger away from him.	18 no sea que el Señor lo vea y lo tome a mal, y aparte de él su indignación.
19 Do not be indignant about the wicked, do not be envious of the evil,	19 No te exasperes contra los malhechores ni tengas envidia de los malvados,
20 for there is no future for the evil, the lamp of the wicked wil go out.	20 porque el malvado no tiene porvenir y su lámpara se extinguirá.
21 Fear Yahweh, my child, and fear the king; do not al y yourself with innovators;	21 Teme al Señor, hijo mío, y también al rey, y no te mezcles con los sediciosos,
22 for suddenly disaster wil loom for them, and who knows what ruin wil seize them and their friends?	22 porque su calamidad surgirá de repente y ¿quién conoce la ruina que causarán ellos dos?
23 The fol owing are also taken from the sages: To show partiality in judgement is not good.	23 También estas son palabras de los sabios. No está bien hacer acepción de personas en el juicio.
24 Whoever tells the wicked, 'You are upright,' peoples curse him, nations revile him;	24 Al que dice a un culpable: «Tú eres inocente», lo maldicen los pueblos y lo execran las naciones;
25 but those who correct him, come out of it wel , on them will come a happy blessing.	25 a quienes lo condenan todo les va bien y serán bendecidos con la felicidad.
26 Whoever returns an honest answer, plants a kiss on the lips.	26 Da un beso en los labios el que da una respuesta acertada.
27 Plan what you want on the open ground, make your preparation in the field; then go and build yourhouse.	27 Ordena tu trabajo afuera, prepáralo en el campo, y después edificarás tu casa.
28 Do not bear witness lightly against your neighbour, nor deceive with your lips.	28 No atestigües sin motivo contra tu prójimo: ¿acaso pretendes engañar con tus labios?
29 Do not say, 'I wil treat my neighbour as my neighbour treated me; I will repay everyone what eachhas earned.'	29 No digas: «Le haré lo mismo que él me hizo, le pagaré conforme a sus obras».
30 By the idler's field I was passing, by the vineyard of a man who had no sense,	30 Yo pasé junto al campo de un holgazán y junto a la viña de un falto de entendimiento,
31 there it al lay, deep in thorns, entirely overgrown with weeds, and its stone wal broken down.	31 y vi que las ortigas habían crecido por todas partes, los cardos cubrían la superficie y su cerco de piedras estaba demolido.
32 And as I gazed I pondered, I drew this lesson from the sight,	32 Al ver esto, me puse a reflexionar, miré y aprendí la lección:
33 'A little sleep, a little drowsiness, a little folding of the arms to lie back	33 «Dormir un poco, dormitar otro poco, y descansar otro poco de brazos cruzados»:
34 and poverty comes like a vagrant, and, like a beggar, dearth.'	34 así te llegará la pobreza como un salteador y la miseria como un hombre armado.
