Proverbs 24

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Do not be envious of the wicked or wish for their company,	1 - Non invidiare gli uomini cattivie non ambire di star con essi;
2 for their hearts are scheming violence, their lips talking mischief.	2 poichè la loro mente medita rapine, e le loro labbra parlano di inganni.
3 By wisdom a house is built, by understanding it is made strong;	3 Con la saggezza si edificherà la casa e con la prudenza si assetterà.
4 by knowledge its storerooms are fil ed with riches of every kind, rare and desirable.	4 Con l'industria si riempiranno le stanze di tutta una preziosa e cospicua fortuna.
5 The wise is mighty in power, strength is reinforced by science;	5 L'uomo saggio è forte e l'uomo dotto è robusto e vigoroso,
6 for it is by strategy that you wage war, and victory depends on having many counsellors.	6 poichè secondo un piano si prepara la guerra, e la salvezza sta nella copia dei consigli.
7 For a fool wisdom is an inaccessible fortress: at the city gate he does not open his mouth.	7 La sapienza è troppo alta per lo stolto, egli non aprirà la bocca alla porta.
8 Anyone intent on evil-doing is known as a master in cunning.	8 Chi pensa al mal fare, sarà chiamato stolto.
9 Folly dreams of nothing but sin, the mocker is abhorrent.	9 Il pensier dello stolto è il peccato, e obbrobrio degli uomini il detrattore.
10 If you lose heart when things go wrong, your strength is not worth much.	10 Se ti lasci abbattere disperando nel giorno dell'angustia, verrà meno la tua fortezza.
11 Save those being dragged towards death, but can you rescue those on their way to execution?	11 Libera coloro che son condotti alla morte e non indugiare a salvare quelli che son trascinati al supplizio.
12 If you say, 'But look, we did not know,' wil the Weigher of the heart pay no attention? Wil not theGuardian of your soul be aware and repay you as your deeds deserve?	12 Ma dirai: «Non bastan le forze». Colui che scruta i cuori egli conosce; e nulla sfugge al custode dell'anima tua, e renderà all'uomo secondo il suo operato.
13 Eat honey, my child, since it is good; honey that drips from the comb is sweet to the taste:	13 Mangia miele, o figliuolo mio, perchè è buono, un favo è dolcissimo al tuo palato.
14 and so, for sure, wil wisdom be to your soul: find it and you will have a future and your hope wil notbe cut short.	14 Tale all'anima tua la cognizione della sapienza; e quando l'avrai trovata, avrai una speranza nell'avvenire e la tua aspettazione non andrà delusa.
15 Do not lurk, wicked man, round the upright man's dwel ing, do not despoil his house.	15 Non insidiare alla casa del giusto, nè cercar malignitàe non turbare la sua quiete;
16 For though the upright fal s seven times, he gets up again; the wicked are the ones who stumble inadversity.	16 perchè il giusto cascherà sette volte e si rialzerà, ma gli empi precipiteranno nel male.
17 Should your enemy fal , do not rejoice, when he stumbles do not let your heart exult:	17 Della caduta del tuo nemico, non te ne rallegrare, e della sua rovina non ti goda il cuore.
18 for fear that Yahweh wil be displeased at the sight and turn his anger away from him.	18 Chè il Signore non veda e gli dispiaccia, e da lui storni l'ira sua.
19 Do not be indignant about the wicked, do not be envious of the evil,	19 Non gareggiare coi malvagi, nè farti emulo degli empi;
20 for there is no future for the evil, the lamp of the wicked wil go out.	20 perchè i cattivi non hanno speranza nella vita avvenire e la lampada degli empi si estinguerà.
21 Fear Yahweh, my child, and fear the king; do not al y yourself with innovators;	21 Temi, o figliuol mio, Iddio e il re e non t'immischiare coi detrattori;
22 for suddenly disaster wil loom for them, and who knows what ruin wil seize them and their friends?	22 perchè d'improvviso sopraggiungerà da essi lo sterminio e i castighi d'entrambi chi li può sapere?
23 The fol owing are also taken from the sages: To show partiality in judgement is not good.	23 Anche queste [sentenze] sono dei sapienti. Fare eccezione di persone in giustizia, non va bene.
24 Whoever tells the wicked, 'You are upright,' peoples curse him, nations revile him;	24 Quelli che dicono all'empio: «Tu sei giusto», i popoli li malediranno e li detesteranno le genti.
25 but those who correct him, come out of it wel , on them will come a happy blessing.	25 Quelli che lo castigano saranno lodati, e sopra loro scenderanno benedizioni.
26 Whoever returns an honest answer, plants a kiss on the lips.	26 Bacia sulle labbra chi risponde a proposito.
27 Plan what you want on the open ground, make your preparation in the field; then go and build yourhouse.	27 Assesta le faccende di fuori, accudisci con cura la tua campagna, per poter poi metter su casa.
28 Do not bear witness lightly against your neighbour, nor deceive with your lips.	28 Non testimoniare senza motivo contro il tuo prossimo, e non sedurre alcuno con le tue labbra.
29 Do not say, 'I wil treat my neighbour as my neighbour treated me; I will repay everyone what eachhas earned.'	29 Non dire: «Com'egli fece a me, così io farò a lui, renderò ad ognuno il fatto suo».
30 By the idler's field I was passing, by the vineyard of a man who had no sense,	30 Son passato pel campo del pigro e per la vigna dell'insensato,
31 there it al lay, deep in thorns, entirely overgrown with weeds, and its stone wal broken down.	31 ed ecco tutto era pieno d'ortiche e le spine avevano ricoperto la superficie e la chiusa di pietre era crollata.
32 And as I gazed I pondered, I drew this lesson from the sight,	32 Com'ebbi visto, vi posi mente e da tale esempio presi lezione.
33 'A little sleep, a little drowsiness, a little folding of the arms to lie back	33 E dissi: «Un poco dormirai, un poco sonnecchierai, un po' starai colle mani in mano per riposarti.
34 and poverty comes like a vagrant, and, like a beggar, dearth.'	34 E ti sopraggiungerà, come corridore, la povertà e la miseria, come una staffetta».
