Proverbs 24

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Do not be envious of the wicked or wish for their company,	1 Non invidiare le persone malvagie, non desiderare di stare con loro,
2 for their hearts are scheming violence, their lips talking mischief.	2 poiché il loro cuore trama rovine e le loro labbra non esprimono che malanni.
3 By wisdom a house is built, by understanding it is made strong;	3 Con la sapienza si costruisce una casa e con la prudenza la si rende salda;
4 by knowledge its storerooms are fil ed with riches of every kind, rare and desirable.	4 con la scienza si riempiono le sue stanze di tutti i beni preziosi e deliziosi.
5 The wise is mighty in power, strength is reinforced by science;	5 Il saggio cresce in potenza e chi è esperto aumenta di forza.
6 for it is by strategy that you wage war, and victory depends on having many counsellors.	6 Perché con le strategie si fa la guerra e la vittoria dipende dal numero dei consiglieri.
7 For a fool wisdom is an inaccessible fortress: at the city gate he does not open his mouth.	7 È troppo alta la sapienza per lo stolto, alla porta della città egli non potrà aprire bocca.
8 Anyone intent on evil-doing is known as a master in cunning.	8 Chi trama per fare il male si chiama mestatore.
9 Folly dreams of nothing but sin, the mocker is abhorrent.	9 Il proposito dello stolto è il peccato e lo spavaldo è aborrito da tutti.
10 If you lose heart when things go wrong, your strength is not worth much.	10 Se te ne stai indolente nel giorno della sventura, ben poca è la tua forza.
11 Save those being dragged towards death, but can you rescue those on their way to execution?	11 Libera quelli che sono condotti alla morte e salva quelli che sono trascinati al supplizio.
12 If you say, 'But look, we did not know,' wil the Weigher of the heart pay no attention? Wil not theGuardian of your soul be aware and repay you as your deeds deserve?	12 Se tu dicessi: «Io non lo sapevo», credi che non l’intenda colui che pesa i cuori? Colui che veglia sulla tua vita lo sa; egli renderà a ciascuno secondo le sue opere.
13 Eat honey, my child, since it is good; honey that drips from the comb is sweet to the taste:	13 Mangia il miele, figlio mio, perché è buono e il favo è dolce al tuo palato.
14 and so, for sure, wil wisdom be to your soul: find it and you will have a future and your hope wil notbe cut short.	14 Sappi che tale è la sapienza per te; se la trovi, avrai un avvenire e la tua speranza non sarà stroncata.
15 Do not lurk, wicked man, round the upright man's dwel ing, do not despoil his house.	15 Non insidiare, come un malvagio, la dimora del giusto, non distruggere la sua abitazione,
16 For though the upright fal s seven times, he gets up again; the wicked are the ones who stumble inadversity.	16 perché se il giusto cade sette volte, egli si rialza, ma i malvagi soccombono nella sventura.
17 Should your enemy fal , do not rejoice, when he stumbles do not let your heart exult:	17 Non ti rallegrare per la caduta del tuo nemico e non gioisca il tuo cuore, quando egli soccombe,
18 for fear that Yahweh wil be displeased at the sight and turn his anger away from him.	18 perché il Signore non veda e se ne dispiaccia e allontani da lui la sua collera.
19 Do not be indignant about the wicked, do not be envious of the evil,	19 Non irritarti per i malfattori e non invidiare i malvagi,
20 for there is no future for the evil, the lamp of the wicked wil go out.	20 perché non ci sarà avvenire per il cattivo e la lampada dei malvagi si spegnerà.
21 Fear Yahweh, my child, and fear the king; do not al y yourself with innovators;	21 Figlio mio, temi il Signore e il re, e con i ribelli non immischiarti,
22 for suddenly disaster wil loom for them, and who knows what ruin wil seize them and their friends?	22 perché improvviso sorgerà il loro castigo e la rovina mandata da entrambi chi la conosce?
23 The fol owing are also taken from the sages: To show partiality in judgement is not good.	23 Anche queste sono parole dei saggi. Avere preferenze personali in giudizio non è bene.
24 Whoever tells the wicked, 'You are upright,' peoples curse him, nations revile him;	24 Chi dice al malvagio: «Tu sei innocente», i popoli lo malediranno, le genti lo detesteranno;
25 but those who correct him, come out of it wel , on them will come a happy blessing.	25 a chi invece lo punisce tutto andrà bene, su di lui si riverserà la benedizione.
26 Whoever returns an honest answer, plants a kiss on the lips.	26 Dà un bacio sulle labbra chi risponde con parole giuste.
27 Plan what you want on the open ground, make your preparation in the field; then go and build yourhouse.	27 Cura prima il tuo lavoro di fuori e prepàratelo nel tuo campo, e poi costruisciti la casa.
28 Do not bear witness lightly against your neighbour, nor deceive with your lips.	28 Non testimoniare senza motivo contro il tuo prossimo, non ingannare con le labbra.
29 Do not say, 'I wil treat my neighbour as my neighbour treated me; I will repay everyone what eachhas earned.'	29 Non dire: «Come ha fatto a me così io farò a lui, renderò a ciascuno come si merita».
30 By the idler's field I was passing, by the vineyard of a man who had no sense,	30 Sono passato vicino al campo di un pigro, alla vigna di un uomo insensato:
31 there it al lay, deep in thorns, entirely overgrown with weeds, and its stone wal broken down.	31 ecco, ovunque erano cresciute le erbacce, il terreno era coperto di cardi e il recinto di pietre era in rovina.
32 And as I gazed I pondered, I drew this lesson from the sight,	32 Ho osservato e ho riflettuto, ho visto e ho tratto questa lezione:
33 'A little sleep, a little drowsiness, a little folding of the arms to lie back	33 un po’ dormi, un po’ sonnecchi, un po’ incroci le braccia per riposare,
34 and poverty comes like a vagrant, and, like a beggar, dearth.'	34 e intanto arriva a te la povertà, come un vagabondo, e l’indigenza, come se tu fossi un accattone.
