[Psalm Of David When he was in the desert of Judah] God, you are my God, I pine for you; my heartthirsts for you, my body longs for you, as a land parched, dreary and waterless. | 1 Unto the end. A Psalm of David. |
Thus I have gazed on you in the sanctuary, seeing your power and your glory. | 2 Hear, O God, my prayer of supplication. Rescue my soul from the fear of the enemy. |
Better your faithful love than life itself; my lips wil praise you. | 3 You have protected me from the assembly of the malignant, from a multitude of workers of iniquity. |
Thus I will bless you al my life, in your name lift up my hands. | 4 For they have sharpened their tongues like a sword; they have formed their bow into a bitter thing, |
Al my longings fulfil ed as with fat and rich foods, a song of joy on my lips and praise in my mouth. | 5 so that they may shoot arrows from hiding at the immaculate. |
On my bed when I think of you, I muse on you in the watches of the night, | 6 They will suddenly shoot arrows at him, and they will not be afraid. They are resolute in their wicked talk. They have discussed hidden snares. They have said, “Who will see them?” |
for you have always been my help; in the shadow of your wings I rejoice; | 7 They have been searching carefully for iniquities. Their exhaustive search has failed. Man will approach with a deep heart, |
my heart clings to you, your right hand supports me. | 8 and God will be exalted. The arrows of the little ones have become their wounds, |
May those who are hounding me to death go down to the depths of the earth, | 9 and their tongues have been weakened against them. All those who saw them have been troubled; |
given over to the blade of the sword, and left as food for jackals. | 10 and every man was afraid. And they announced the works of God, and they understood his acts. |
Then the king shall rejoice in God, al who swear by him shal gain recognition, for the mouths of liarsshall be silenced. | 11 The just will rejoice in the Lord, and they will hope in him. And all the upright of heart will be praised. |
