NEW JERUSALEM | VULGATA |

[For the choirmaster Tune: 'The oppression of distant princes' Of David In a quiet voice When thePhilistines seized him in Gath] Take pity on me, God, as they harry me, pressing their attacks home all day. | 1 In finem, ne disperdas. David in tituli inscriptionem, cum fugeret a facie Saul in speluncam. |
Those who harry me lie in wait for me al day, countless are those who attack me from the heights. | 2 Miserere mei, Deus, miserere mei, quoniam in te confidit anima mea. Et in umbra alarum tuarum sperabo, donec transeat iniquitas. |
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you, | 3 Clamabo ad Deum altissimum, Deum qui benefecit mihi. |
in God, whose word I praise, in God I put my trust and have no fear, what power has human strengthover me? | 4 Misit de cælo, et liberavit me ; dedit in opprobrium conculcantes me. Misit Deus misericordiam suam et veritatem suam, |
Al day long they carp at my words, their only thought is to harm me, | 5 et eripuit animam meam de medio catulorum leonum. Dormivi conturbatus. Filii hominum dentes eorum arma et sagittæ, et lingua eorum gladius acutus. |
they gather together, lie in wait and spy on my movements, as though determined to take my life. | 6 Exaltare super cælos, Deus, et in omnem terram gloria tua. |
Because of this crime reject them, in your anger, God, strike down the nations. | 7 Laqueum paraverunt pedibus meis, et incurvaverunt animam meam. Foderunt ante faciem meam foveam, et inciderunt in eam. |
You yourself have counted up my sorrows, col ect my tears in your wineskin. | 8 Paratum cor meum, Deus, paratum cor meum ; cantabo, et psalmum dicam. |
Then my enemies wil turn back on the day when I cal . This I know, that God is on my side. | 9 Exsurge, gloria mea ; exsurge, psalterium et cithara : exsurgam diluculo. |
In God whose word I praise, in Yahweh whose word I praise, | 10 Confitebor tibi in populis, Domine, et psalmum dicam tibi in gentibus : |
in God I put my trust and have no fear; what can mortal man do to me? | 11 quoniam magnificata est usque ad cælos misericordia tua, et usque ad nubes veritas tua. |
I am bound by the vows I have made, God, I will pay you the debt of thanks, | 12 Exaltare super cælos, Deus, et super omnem terram gloria tua. |
for you have saved my life from death to walk in the presence of God, in the light of the living. |
