Psalms 118

NEW JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Al eluia! Give thanks to Yahweh for he is good, for his faithful love endures for ever.	1 Give thanks to the LORD, who is good, whose love endures forever.
2 Let the House of Israel say, 'His faithful love endures for ever.'	2 Let the house of Israel say: God's love endures forever.
3 Let the House of Aaron say, 'His faithful love endures for ever.'	3 Let the house of Aaron say, God's love endures forever.
4 Let those who fear Yahweh say, 'His faithful love endures for ever.'	4 Let those who fear the LORD say, God's love endures forever.
5 In my distress I called to Yahweh, he heard me and brought me relief.	5 In danger I called on the LORD; the LORD answered me and set me free.
6 With Yahweh on my side I fear nothing; what can human beings do to me?	6 The LORD is with me; I am not afraid; what can mortals do against me?
7 With Yahweh on my side as my help, I gloat over my enemies.	7 The LORD is with me as my helper; I shall look in triumph on my foes.
8 It is better to take refuge in Yahweh than to rely on human beings;	8 Better to take refuge in the LORD than to put one's trust in mortals.

10 Nations were swarming around me, in the name of Yahweh I cut them down;	10 All the nations surrounded me; in the LORD'S name I crushed them.
11 they swarmed around me, pressing upon me, in the name of Yahweh I cut them down.	11 They surrounded me on every side; in the LORD'S name I crushed them.
12 They swarmed around me like bees, they flared up like a brushwood fire, in the name of Yahweh Icut them down.	12 They surrounded me like bees; they blazed like fire among thorns; in the LORD'S name I crushed them.
13 I was pushed hard, to make me fal , but Yahweh came to my help.	13 I was hard pressed and falling, but the LORD came to my help.
14 Yahweh is my strength and my song, he has been my Saviour.	14 The LORD, my strength and might, came to me as savior.
15 Shouts of joy and salvation, in the tents of the upright, 'Yahweh's right hand is triumphant,	15 The joyful shout of deliverance is heard in the tents of the victors: "The LORD'S right hand strikes with power;
16 Yahweh's right hand is victorious, Yahweh's right hand is triumphant!'	16 the LORD'S right hand is raised; the LORD'S right hand strikes with power."
17 I shal not die, I shal live to recount the great deeds of Yahweh.	17 I shall not die but live and declare the deeds of the LORD.
18 Though Yahweh punished me sternly, he has not abandoned me to death.	18 The LORD chastised me harshly, but did not hand me over to death.
19 Open for me the gates of saving justice, I shal go in and thank Yahweh.	19 Open the gates of victory; I will enter and thank the LORD.
20 This is the gate of Yahweh, where the upright go in.	20 This is the LORD'S own gate, where the victors enter.
21 I thank you for hearing me, and making yourself my Saviour.	21 I thank you for you answered me; you have been my savior.
22 The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;	22 The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
23 This is Yahweh's doing, and we marvel at it.	23 By the LORD has this been done; it is wonderful in our eyes.
24 This is the day which Yahweh has made, a day for us to rejoice and be glad.	24 This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice in it and be glad.
25 We beg you, Yahweh, save us, we beg you, Yahweh, give us victory!	25 LORD, grant salvation! LORD, grant good fortune!
26 Blessed in the name of Yahweh is he who is coming! We bless you from the house of Yahweh.	26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD. We bless you from the LORD'S house.
27 Yahweh is God, he gives us light. Link your processions, branches in hand, up to the horns of thealtar.	27 The LORD is God and has given us light. Join in procession with leafy branches up to the horns of the altar.
28 You are my God, I thank you, al praise to you, my God. I thank you for hearing me, and makingyourself my Saviour.	28 You are my God, I give you thanks; my God, I offer you praise.
29 Give thanks to Yahweh for he is good, for his faithful love endures for ever.	29 Give thanks to the LORD, who is good, whose love endures forever.
