NEW JERUSALEMBiblia Sagrada
Job spoke next. He said:1 Job respondió así:
Listen careful y to my words; let this be the consolation you allow me.2 «Escuchad atentos mis palabras, | dadme siquiera ese consuelo.
Permit me to speak in my turn; you may jeer when I have spoken.3 Sed pacientes mientras hablo, | después os podréis burlar.
Is my complaint just about a fellow-mortal? I have good grounds to be perturbed!4 ¿Me quejo quizá de algún hombre | o pierdo la paciencia sin razón?
Give your attention to me; you wil be dumbfounded and wil place your hand over your mouth.5 Escuchadme, quedaréis pasmados | y os llevaréis la mano a la boca.
I myself am appalled at the very thought, and my flesh creeps.6 Lo pienso y me horrorizo, | y el pavor atenaza mi carne.
Why do the wicked stil live on, their power increasing with their age?7 ¿Por qué siguen vivos los malvados, | que envejecen y aumenta su poder?
They see their posterity assured, and their offspring secure before their eyes.8 Ven a sus hijos crecer seguros, | contemplan cómo medran sus retoños:
The peace of their houses has nothing to fear, the rod that God wields is not for them.9 sus casas, en paz y sin temor, | la vara de Dios no los alcanza.
No mishap with their bull at breeding-time, nor miscarriage with their cow at calving.10 Sus toros engendran sin fallar, | sus vacas nunca malparen.
They let their infants frisk like lambs, their children dance like deer.11 Sus hijos trotan como corderos, | sus niños juegan satisfechos.
They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice to the sound of the pipe.12 Cantan con liras y tambores, | se alegran al son de la flauta;
They end their lives in happiness and go down in peace to Sheol.13 disfrutan dichosos de la vida | y bajan en paz al Abismo.
Yet these are the ones who say to God, 'Go away! We do not want to learn your ways.14 Y eso que decían a Dios: | “¡Déjanos en paz!, | no nos interesa para nada | conocer tus caminos.
What is the point of our serving Shaddai? What should we gain from praying to him?'15 ¿Por qué hemos de servir al Todopoderoso?, | ¿qué sacamos con invocarlo?”.
Surely they have won their own prosperity, since God is kept so far from their plans?16 ¿No depende del impío su dicha, | aunque su plan esté lejos de Dios?
Do we often see the light of the wicked put out, or disaster overtake him, or the retribution of Goddestroy his possessions,17 ¿Cuándo se apaga la lámpara del malvado?, | ¿cuándo se abate sobre él la desgracia, | o la ira divina lo colma de dolor?
or the wind blow him away like a straw, or a whirlwind carry him off like chaff?18 ¿Son paja perseguida por el viento | o tamo que arrastra el huracán?
So God is storing up punishment for his children? But the wicked himself should be punished, andshould know it!19 ¿Va a castigar Dios a sus hijos? | ¡Que lo pague él y escarmiente!
He himself should witness his own ruin, and himself drink the anger of Shaddai.20 ¡Que él mismo contemple su ruina, | que beba la cólera del Todopoderoso!
Once he is gone, what joy can he gain from his family, once the number of his months has been cutoff?21 ¿Qué le importa su casa una vez muerto, | cuando cese la cuenta de sus meses?
But who can teach wisdom to God, to him who is judge of those on high?22 ¿Quién puede dar lecciones a Dios, | cuando gobierna también el cielo?
And again: one person dies in the ful ness of strength, in all possible happiness and ease,23 Hay quien muere en pleno vigor, | rebosante de dicha y de paz,
thighs padded with fat and the marrow in the bones good and moist.24 con sus lomos cubiertos de grasa | y jugosa la médula de sus huesos.
Another dies in bitterness of heart, never having tasted happiness.25 Y hay quien muere lleno de amargura, | sin haber probado cosa buena.
They lie together down in the dust and the worms soon cover them both.26 Pero ambos se acuestan en el polvo, | bajo una cubierta de gusanos.
Oh, I know what is in your minds, what you so spiteful y think about me!27 De sobra sé lo que pensáis, | todo lo que opináis sobre mi caso.
'What has become of the great lord's house,' you say, 'where is the tent where the wicked used tolive?'28 Decís: “¿Dónde está la casa del prepotente, | la tienda que habitaban los impíos?”.
Have you never questioned people who travel, do you not understand the testimony they give:29 ¿Por qué no lo preguntáis a los viajeros?, | entonces sabríais lo que piensan:
on the day of disaster, the wicked is spared, on the day of retribution, he is kept safe?30 El malvado se libra el día del desastre, | se encuentra a salvo el día del castigo.
And who is there then to reproach him for his deeds and to pay him back for the things he has done?31 ¿Quién le reprocha su conducta | o le hace pagar lo que ha hecho?
He is carried away to the cemetery, and a watch is kept at his tomb.32 Muere y lo llevan al cementerio, | la gente vela junto a su tumba,
The clods of the ravine lie easy on him, and the whole population walk behind.33 ni siquiera le pesa la tierra. | Tras él desfila todo el mundo, | por delante una turba innumerable.
So what sense is there in your empty consolation? your answers are the left-overs of infidelity!34 Pues ¿a qué consolarme con vaciedades? | ¡Si tan solo respondéis con engaños!».
